Official Statement
WHEREAS, once again the University of Connecticut has instilled pride and excitement into the hearts and minds of loyal Husky fans throughout our State as the UConn men's and women's basketball teams have both advanced to the NCAA Final Four; and WHEREAS, the UConn men, led by seniors A.J. Price, Jeff Adrien and Craig Austrie, as well as Big-East Co-Player of the Year and All-American Hasheem Thabeet and Hall of F~~e Coach Jim Calhoun, are in the midst of a tremendous season and expect their momentum to carry them all the way through the Final Four and back to the Storrs campus with 2009 NCAA Championship Trophy in tow; and WHEREAS, the UComi women, led by All-Americans Haya Hoare, Renee Hontgomery and Tina Charles, as well as Hall of Fame Coach Gena Auriemma, hope to extend their undefeated season and bring a 6 th Women's National Championship back to Connecticut; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the men's se~i-final game against Hichigan State on Saturday, and the wo~en's semi-final game against Stanford on Sunday, I, Governor H. Jodi Rell, have designated Friday, April 3 - Sunday, April 5, 2009, as UCONN HUSKIES BLUE & WHITE WEEKEND and will proudly extend Blue & White Weekend through Tuesday if either tear., , and hopefully both, make it to the Championship Game; and WHEREAS, = ask all citizens to show your Husky Pride and wish our well by wearing your favorite UConn Huskies gear, flying a UCor~J. flag outside your home, displaying a sign in your windows or front yard, and wearing blue and white; and tea~s
WHEREAS, let's show our Husky pride as a way to congratulate both teams on getting to the Final Four and to wish them well in their shared goal of having a repeat of 2004 with another dual National Ch~~pionship year; now llHEREFORE, I, M. Jodi Rell, Governor of the State of Connecticut, do hereby officially designate Friday, April 3 - Sunday, April 5, 2009, as
UCONN HUSKIES BLUE & WHITE WEEKEND in the State of connecticut.
