I am pleased to report that the compilaton of the 2008 Grand List is complete. I perfected the Abstract of Assessments according to law, and filed it with the Office of the Town Clerk on Friday - January 30,2009. The Grand List books are in the process of being printed and will SOOI1 be available for public inspection in the assessing office. During the interim, Grand List information can be generated from our computer system. The overall growth of the Wallingford Grand List this year is a modest 1.02 percent increase. The net taxable Grand List increased by $43,467,910, to a total of $4,305,383,960. Two categories of the Grand List have increased - Real Estate by .98 percent, and Personal Pro~erty (Business Equipment) by 6.60 percent. The Motor Vehicle Grand List is down by 4.31 percent despite the fact that we have 101 more vehicles this year. I attribute this to the economic principle of "supply ane! demand". There is an over-supply of new and used vehicles in the marketplace and demand is soft. This puts downward pressure on vehicle values - as evidenced by the decline in the Motor Vehicle Grand List. The Connecticut Light arid Power project to install a new.electrical sub-station and upgrade high voltage transmission lines was completed this year and represents an addition of $35,740,650 to the net taxable Personal Property Grand List. It should be noted that without the increase attributable to C L & P, the Personal Property Grand List would have posted a decline as well. . The Real ,Estate Grand List is up by only $35,471,552 for 2008 as compared to an increase of almost $52,000,000 last year. Attacheci to this memo are severa: exhibits that illustrate in some detail, the composition of the Wallingford Grand List as of October 1, 2008, and the changes that have occurred during the past year.
