For Immediate Release Re: Nursing Home Petition to Close Date: November 21, 2019 (Meriden) On November 21, 2019, Westfield Manor Health Care Center (Westfield) in Meriden, Connecticut filed with the State of Connecticut’s Department of Social Services (DSS), a Petition to voluntarily close the center. The decision to close comes after years of painstaking efforts to revitalize Westfield. The insurmountable challenges of operating the facility and ensuring the highest quality of care and life for its residents has resulted in significant losses and escalating losses over the past few years. Despite numerous attempts to maintain the center’s viability, the ownership has concluded that as a result of significant fiscal losses which has occurred over an extended period of time, closure has become imminent. While the Department of Social Services has the authority to either grant or deny the Petition and has thirty days to do so, placement coordinators will be on staff to assist residents and families who wish to voluntarily transfer to an alternate facility. Our residents and families are our highest priority and we are prepared to provide a smooth and seamless transition and ensure that all care and services continue uninterrupted during this process. Westfield is currently home to 57 patients, most who reside as long-term care residents.
