Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Level 1-2. Join us for these exciting classes where you will learn new recipes, cooking techniques, and kitchen tips and tricks while exploring and creating delicious, nutritious meals! This program is geared towards individuals with intellectual disabilities. Please note that all cooking classes are subject to using, but not limited to, the following allergen related and dietary restrictive foods unless otherwise specified in the title/description (i.e. if titled "Gluten-Free Cooking": Gluten, Dairy, Eggs, Onions, Garlic, Pork, Nuts.

FITNESS - ADAPTIVE PROGRAM

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1-3. Chair One Fitness, instructed by Deirdre, is a fun chair-based fitness program that delivers a musically driven, interactive workout that uplifts people through dance and fitness movements. This class is perfect for anyone who can benefit from a seated workout! This program is geared towards individuals with higher support needs.

ADAPTIVE RECREATION CRITERIA

Frederick County Parks and Recreation offers Adaptive Recreation (AR) programs designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities, developmental differences, and/or higher support needs as well as emphasize participants’ unique abilities. Programs utilize trained staff and higher staff/participant ratios in addition to adapted spaces, materials, and content to provide an opportunity for individuals to participate in various recreation activities.

Adaptive Recreation

Essential Eligibility Criteria Program levels

FCPR’s Adaptive Recreation Programs utilize designated program levels and essential eligibility criteria to ensure the safety of all participants and sta who are part of the program and to allow participants to experience the program to the fullest extent.

These levels outline the minimum physical and cognitive skills needed in order to participate.

LEVEL 1

 No assistance needed to maneuver rugged terrain and extended distances.

 Can maintain their own personal hygiene and without assistance.

 Can follow multiple-step instructions.

 Able to convey feelings, desires, and emotions without assistance.

 Demonstrates age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and con ict.

 Will stay with group without assistance.

 Can independently manage the sensory stimulation of a frequently large, loud, and energetic group environment.

 For outdoor adventure-based programs only: Must be comfortable in a rustic, outdoor environment (e.g. exposure to extended periods of direct sun, varying weather conditions, insects/animals, grass/dirt/mud). Must be comfortable in open water using a PFD (personal otation device)

LEVEL 3

 Di culty with terrain.

 May use assistive and/or self-propelled device as listed in Level 2, plus powered wheelchair or scooter.

 Maintains personal hygiene with some assistance.

 Can follow instructions with assistance.

 Able to convey feelings, desires and needs with picture cues or communication device.

 Demonstrates age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and con ict with assistance.

 Will stay with group with continuous supervision.

 Can manage the sensory stimulation of occasionally large, loud, and energetic group environment with assistance.

LEVEL 2

 No assistance needed with level surfaces.

 May use assistive device (manual wheelchair, canes, walker, crutches, etc.).

 Can maintain their own personal hygiene with verbal cues.

 Can follow single or two-step instructions.

 Able to convey feelings, desires and needs with picture cues or communication device.

 Demonstrates age-appropriate social and emotional skills in managing personal boundaries, relationships, communication, stress, and con ict with some assistance.

 Will stay with group with the help of verbal prompts.

 Can manage the sensory stimulation of a frequently large, loud, and energetic group environment with some assistance.

LEVEL 4

 Full assistance and/or self-propelled device as listed in Levels 2 and 3.

 Personal hygiene with full assistance.

 Limited comprehension.

 Able to convey feelings, desires and needs with full assistance.

 Will stay with group with continuous supervision.

Unless explicitly stated in the program description, FCPR sta do not provide hands-on assistance with toileting or feeding/eating; sta will provide assistance with verbal cues or visual aids. If a participant needs assistance during activity hours, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian/caregiver or individual to arrange for assistance.

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1-4. Take a welldeserved break at our Parents Night Out! This adaptive program offers inclusive activities, games, and crafts to keep your child engaged while you relax or enjoy an evening to yourself. Join us for a fun night for them and a chance to recharge for you. Reserve your spot today for a worry-free evening!" This program is geared specifically to individuals with disabilities and higher support needs. Trained staff will be on site to provide personal care if needed.

ADAPTIVE FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1-4. Join us with your family for a St. Patrick’s Day Themed Movie Night! Bring your pillows, your blankets and any other comfy seating you’d like! Popcorn will be provided. Parents must remain on site, but do not need to register themselves.

ADAPTIVE ADVANTURES

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Level 1. Grab a friend and join us on an adVANture as we take the Frederick County Parks and Recreation van to new and exciting locations outside of the county. With our trained and qualified staff with a 1 to 3 staff to participant ratio, participants will be able to enjoy fun activities with friends without the hassle of driving themselves! This program is geared towards individuals with higher support needs. Our first trip will be to Dave and Busters! Van will leave from 355 Montevue Lane at approx. 10:30am and return by 3:00pm. Fee Covers: Transportation and Staffing. You will need to bring your own money for the games and food you would like to purchase.

MINDFULNESS MONDAYS (ADAPTIVE)

Beat the winter blues with this 4-week class from wellness coach Ellen Gilbert. Drop-in for 1 or join us all month long for 1-hour of gentle stretching, meditation, community sharing, and self-care planning. Make your own self-care plan for your fitness, nutrition, hydration, mindfulness, and sleep journeys. You will be invited to share your self-care intentions for 2025 and set goals for increased wellbeing. Come experience the fun of mindfulness and the joy of self-care in community this winter! Gymnastics

EMPOWERED GYMNASTICS - ADAPTIVE GYMNASTICS

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1-2. Empowered Gymnastics will teach children with physical and development disabilities, delays, or differences the basics of gymnastics. We will use lower level apparatuses to grow the students’ comfort levels and focus on starting positions and basic skills. Each class we will start with a warm up, then move to stretching, structured activities, and a game or group play at the end. Goals: To increase strength, improve coordination, and develop a basic knowledge of gymnastics.

Karate

ADAPTIVE MARTIAL ARTS FUNDAMENTALS

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1 & 2. This class will provide individuals with physical and developmental disabilities an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of martial arts, including stances, blocking, striking, and kicking and allow them to focus on individual skills in a team environment. Goals: To improve attention, motor, and sensory skills and build self confidence.

ADAPTIVE OPEN GYM

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1-4. Families of children with special needs or disabilities are invited to come enjoy an open gym at Rock Creek Rec Center. Come move, play, and explore! Select sports equipment will be provided. No formal instruction will be provided. Participants under 18 must be supervised by a parent/guardian/caregiver over the age of 18. Siblings are welcome at no additional cost. If personal care assistance is needed, caregiver must stay on site. Goals: To increase coordination, body awareness, gross motor skills, and physical activity.

SPORTS DISCOVERY - ADAPTIVE MULTI-SPORT CLINIC

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program Levels 1-3. Sports Discovery is designed to introduce the fundamentals of a variety of sports including, but not limited to, soccer, basketball and field hockey to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. Athletes will learn the fundamentals of each sport through drills and fun games in an adaptive and non-competitive environment. All equipment is provided. Goals: To increase coordination, body awareness, physical activity, and athletic skill, and to improve sportsmanship.

ADAPTIVE SNOW SKIING CLASS

Join us and Blue Ridge Adaptive Snow Sports for some fun in the snow at Ski Liberty Mountain for an adaptive skiing clinic. Participants will choose from sit down ski or stand-up ski lessons. Stand-up Ski: Participants must be able to support their own body weight and have the physical capabilities to stand and ski for a 2-hour period. This event is geared to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. Participants will get the opportunity to learn the basics of stand-up skiing with the help of two trained volunteers. Adaptive snow sports allow people with disabilities to enjoy the outdoors and freedom of movement. Sit-down Ski: This is geared to individuals who are non-ambulatory with advanced forms of cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, etc. In this clinic participants will get the opportunity to ride in an adaptive sit- down ski, as a member of Blue Ridge Adaptive Snow Sports pulls the participant up and down the slopes, allowing them to enjoy the outdoors and freedom of movement. Participants must be able to provide personal care independently or with assistance from a caregiver who is on site. Fee includes: 2-hour instruction, Lift Ticket, Helmet, Goggles, Skis. All equipment provided. Participant will need to provide appropriate winter clothing. Participants must arrive at least 30 minutes early to receive gear. Transportation must be provided. Once registered participants must provide in advance: weight, height, shoe size, and head size in preparation for equipment and fill out an AIR Health and Skills forms. SOCCER STARS - ADAPTIVE SOCCER

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program levels 1 - 3. Soccer Stars will provide individuals with physical and developmental disabilities, delays, or differences the structure to learn the fundamentals of soccer, including basic skills, game scenarios, and rules, while enjoying a team atmosphere and completing drills and activities at one’s own pace. Goals: To increase strength and improve gross motor skills, athletic ability, and social skill in an encouraging team environment.

Wellness

2025 ADAPTIVE OPEN GYM

Cost: The cost is $2 per participant per program per day. Individuals with disabilities are welcome to come enjoy our Adaptive Open Gym. There is no formal instruction and all necessary equipment is provided. A caregiver must stay on site as this no supervision is provided. The Center Coordinator will monitor drop-in programs. No organized team practices. Waiver: All participants must show proof of identification, sign a waiver and code of conduct agreement upon entering a drop-in program for the first time. Any participant in violation of the Code of Conduct may be asked to leave by the recreation center staff member. Please review the Code of Conduct before participating in any drop in programs with Frederick County Parks and Recreation. Closings: We request that you include your email address when signing in to a drop-in program. We send an email to those participants informing them of any schedule changes, updates and cancellations. To see if a program has been cancelled last minute, please call our program cancellation line at 301-600-6291.
