The Subtle Sampler ~ Aurifil Designer Thread Collection by Karen L. Miller ~ Redbird Quilt Co. 12Wt (red spools) For big stitch quilting, machine top stitching, hand embroidery or hand applique. Free motion quilt with 12wt for amazing thread highlights! Use a 100/16 top stitch needle, 40 or 50wt bobbin & a lower top tension.

28Wt (grey spools) For really awesome single strand machine quilting, doodle quilting, or thread painting. Try a double strand for hand wool applique, cross stitch, or embroidery work. It’s yummy! Use a 100/16 or 90/14 top stitch needle, 50wt bobbin, and lower the top tension.

40Wt (green spools) For beautiful machine quilting, thread painting, and machine applique accents. Use a 90/14 or 80/12 top stitch needle, 50wt bobbin, lower top tension.

50Wt (orange spools) For machine piecing – your seams will press flat, flat, flat! Awesome for really dense machine quilting like McTavishing or micro-stippling. It’s my go-to weight for needle turn applique, English Paper Piecing and a multitude of hand stitching projects. I use it for the bobbin, binding, and machine applique too! Use a 80/12, 75/11, or 70/10 top stitch needle.

Monofilament (white spools) Perfect for quilting that busy fabric if one cotton color just won’t do. Great for couching, ditch work, and invisible machine applique too! Use a 80/12 top stitch needle and lower the top tension.
