Dear Parents and Caregivers, What a fantastic week of activities that were enjoyed by our students. It started with the annual art retreat to Arthur Boyd’s Bundanon where they were involved in a sophisticated program of artmaking, exploration and discovery. Our students learnt about artist Arthur Boyd and his varied interactions within the artworld. They completed many works looking specifically at acrylic landscape painting, charcoal drawings and ink and wash to create visual effects. They completed drawings in the bush whilst being inspired by

the sounds of birds and the fresh country air. A range of these works will be on display at the HSC Art Showcase. Congratulations Year 11 on all your commitment, hard work and ability to challenge yourselves to see more in the artmaking process. A spread of images can be viewed on pages 8 and 9. Ten of our Year 9 students were involved in a training course with Eastside Radio at Paddington Town Hall. The three nights of training in preparation for the Reddam Radio Show hosted on Eastside Radio run by our students was enjoyed by the students who took part.
“I loved being part of such a cool and interesting training week. We all loved to learn about the legends of the radio world and the technology behind what we hear on the radio. “ Year 9 Eastside Radio participants.

Marli Pasvolsky’s comments were that “we all loved to learn about the legends of the radio world and the technology behind what we hear on the radio”. More about when you can tune in to listen to their show closer to the launch of the programme. The NAPLAN assessments for Year 7 and Year 9 were completed on Monday with Numeracy. My thanks to Ms Huxham for managing the process and ensuring each session ran smoothly. The first two of four Parent, Teacher, Student evenings were held on Monday and Tuesday evenings and the feedback from teachers and parents is that it has been worthwhile and that there is still a preference for online meetings. One of the strategies for which COVID was responsible and which will probably stay. The final Stag Student Newspaper under the editorship of Mia Seisun and her team of Year 12 students was distributed this week. My thanks to her and her team for this initiative which one hopes continues to thrive under the “new management” of a group of Year 10 students. A great legacy Mia, congratulations. The Stag Student

The Year 12 Judiciary and Representing Reddam students invite prefects from local schools to a networking and socialising event at our school each year. This year Jaison Krutik was responsible for marketing and advertising the event. Students attended for a fantastic evening of trivia, dinner and refreshments that was enjoyed by all. Mr Francis, the trivia master, and Ms Vince as their Year Coordinator, ensured the evening was a great success. Mr Cawse and I enjoyed seeing the pride in their school with which our students interact with the visiting prefects. Sunset on the Woollahra rooftop capped off a tremendously heritage. The basketball tournament culminated in a successful evening. The Prefects summary can be viewed teacher versus senior executive match. The score was over the page. even with seconds to play when Mr Simic scored the winning points. The spectators enjoyed the skills on display and learned that their teachers are not only good in the classroom but have sporting talents as well. The 250 entries for the Instrumental Competition have been assessed by the adjudicators and feedback has been received. Results are listed on page 4. The winners in each section can be congratulated and we look forward to an amazing Finals evening in a few weeks. Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead. Dave Pitcairn
This week Yoni Herz, of the Year 12 Sports Portfolio, organised a basketball tournament at the Bondi Campus to raise funds for breast cancer research. This will be followed up next week with a Cultural Food Fare with foods from different cultures on sale. Students on the Senior Campus will be asked to wear mufti representing their @REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter

YEAR 12 REPRESENTATIVES TEA Our prefect social was filled with laughs, the beginnings of new friendships and a multitude of unique, interesting people. Seventy one attendees came from all around Sydney, of all creeds and dispositions. The afternoon started off with some idle chatter and as the sun began to set: it was time for our main event, trivia. All participants were split up into eight diverse teams, made up of students from as many different schools as possible. Mr Francis, who wrote and directed the trivia, was engaging, funny and a crowd favourite. He managed to produce sixty interesting questions which ranged from general knowledge to image identification, all crafted with a characteristic charm. Some people came out of it with some new, very strange knowledge. After trivia, the group dined on poke bowls produced by our venerable canteen. Crumbed chicken schnitzel, sashimi salmon and tofu. It was a very well-received meal. As the sun was setting, we ate and conversed on the roof, with the Harbour Bridge lighting up in the distance. Group photos were taken and new friendships were formed, and to us we consider that a successful night for all. JAM

MUSIC EXTENSION On Wednesday, Music Extension students visited the Sydney Conservatorium on special invitation to attend a Performance Workshop class, accompanied by Mrs Wood and Mr Bortolotti. The students had first hand experience of what it’s like to be an undergraduate performance student, taking a tour through the Conservatorium music recording and sound production facilities, rehearsal and lesson spaces, and tutorial theory rooms. They then sat amongst the university students and participated in the performance class, learning tips and techniques for improving everything in performance presentation from concert performer etiquette to repertoire interpretation and posture for best vocal sound production. It was also a lovely surprise to see voice students from the Reddam class of 2021 who did this exact excursion last year now at the Con as first year music students in this very class - Jordan Sardis and Nicole Geller. An inspiring and timely experience that will hopefully help this years’ graduates to discover pathways for their music in the future.

ALUMNI NEWS Henry Heaydon Ex student Henry is working his way up the skiing world rankings and this year skiing at a Division 1 NCAA college (Montana State University) following two gap years after high school. Henry came 3rd in SL on the NCAA circuit last season and also represented AUS at the World Alpine championships. Henry was all set to go to Beijing, had the accreditation (attached) and AOC had the flights booked for him, however, there was a last minute gender tilt and only one male together with 3 females were selected (this was an IOC decision not AUS).
