Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Valentine’s Day was celebrated by students wearing pink and red at the Bondi Campus as the Charity Portfolio raised money going towards providing essential items needed by those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. A bake sale, gifts, and song dedications were all on offer and I am proud to announce that they collected $950 for these communities who are enduring such hardship. More images on page 5.
In assembly last Friday, Jax Carrick (Year 12) of The Academic Support Portfolio launched the weekly Study/ Tutorial sessions for Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 students. His key points were as follows:
The weekly Study Sessions will:
• Be held on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30pm4:30pm
• Be in Mrs. Karney’s room
• There will be approximately 5 Year 12s from the academic support portfolio
Last weekend, the first of the Annual Art Retreats took place. The HSC artists travelled to Hobart to have an experience at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). The students were enthralled, surprised, and
Our artists also had a cultural engagement with Hobart as they journeyed to the Cascade Female Factory where they watched a live theatrical performance of ‘The Proud & the Punished’, Mount Nelson, the Salamanca Markets, Sandy Bay, Battery Point, and the TMAG (Tasmania Museum and Art Gallery). Our artists completed one of their HSC Case Studies whilst at MONA, as well as using the artists as an influence for their own art practice and development of their HSC Bodies of Works. A phenomenal trip was had by all. My thanks to Mrs Symonds for making this exciting opportunity available to our Art students. Images on pages 6 and 7.
HSC Dance students enjoyed an entertaining night of dance on their excursion to see Callback at the Seymour Centre last Thursday. The evening included exemplary performances from the 2022 HSC Practical Examinations and served as a great motivator for our students to strive to achieve work of their own that displays the same level of skill and creativity. Listening to the students discuss each performance with such appreciation for and deep understanding of the HSC Dance syllabus was wonderful and hopefully an indication of good things to come from this very talented and intelligent cohort of dancers. We wish them the very best of luck as they embark on this exciting, final chapter of their Dance career at Reddam.
each student’s school record as well as marking their progress through school for families taken annually.
The first of our Pastoral Care sessions was held in the Middle School today during the Cycle Test period. Year 9 had a workshop on “Informed Consent” where this important topic was dealt with in small group workshops. Discussions included the legalities of consent (including the age of consent and free agreement), consent and sexual activity, respecting boundaries, and seeking support and help.
Year 8 had a Friendship workshop where they learned what to expect in their friendships through The 4 Friendship Facts, applying these ‘truths’ in friendship to their real life. Using the Friend-o-Meter, students reflect on the health of their friendships & Friendship Groups. They learn how to manage conflict (in-person and online), exploring the different approaches for responding to Friendship Fires versus Mean-on-Purpose behaviour. Students learned how to apply these friendship strategies to other relationships in their lives.
Rachel Clark of the HSC Class of 2011 conducted a session on the impacts of social media for all Year 7 Students. This interactive presentation provided students with education on the psychological impacts of social media use and gave them the opportunity to reflect on the social media they use, how they use it, and how it makes them feel. The presentation aimed to empower young people with the knowledge and tools to use social media with more awareness, safety, and agency.
The next of our Parent Information evenings was held on the rooftop at Woollahra on Thursday night for the Year 8 parents. I once again reiterate how we as teachers have missed the opportunity to socialise with parents and welcome evenings such as this back into our calendar. It is my impression that the feeling is shared by the parents who enjoyed connecting with the parents of their children’s friends. A worthwhile, fun evening was had by all. Next week is the turn of the Year 7 and Year 9 parents on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.
School photos were taken on the Bondi Campus today which is always a big day at the school to ensure everyone is looking their best. Middle School photos are on Friday 10th March. These photos form an important part of
The Junior Executive had their induction assembly on Friday and we congratulate the following Year 9 students on their election and look forward to their leadership within the Middle School this year.

I have an exciting new opportunity for Reddam High school students to make an income and for teachers and staff to outsource tasks they need to be done. Two Reddam students have been creating a job platform, soon to launch, for teens to find casual jobs, close to them, and complete them for income. E.g car washing, dog walking, babysitting, tutoring, gardening, etc. Their platform is a great way to get experience doing all kinds of fun jobs, develop great skills, and earn money whilst doing so. Also, for teachers, staff, or parents interested in outsourcing tedious, simple tasks, Youther is a great way to get jobs done whilst supporting the local youth in your community. Additionally, if you know anyone who may be interested in using Youther, please feel free to share it with them too.
If you're interested or just want to support them, head over to their website youther.com.au, and sign up to be notified as soon as it launches.
Next Wednesday, February 22, we hold our Term 1 recital, the Welcome Recital, in Adelaide Hall. It is at 7 pm and all are welcome to attend and support our young musicians. It should be a superb evening of entertainment.
Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead,
Dave PitcairnGIRLS

SCHOLARSHIPS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY
MySydney Entry & Scholarship Scheme
The E12 Early Offer and Scholarship Scheme is being discontinued as the University has introduced MySydney. Similarly to E12, MySydney provides entry at a reduced ATAR, yet a more generous scholarship of $8500 per year to students residing in a low socioeconomic area*. MySydney does not require a written application and eligible students will be identified automatically via UAC.
*Residing at the time of UAC application in an area listed in the bottom 25% of the Australian Bureau of Statistics Socio-Economic Index for Areas (SEIFA), Index of Education and Occupation.
Scholarships
The decision was made to discontinue the Sydney Scholars Award. With such a large volume of applications each year, far outweighing the number of Awards available to students, it was decided it was not fair for students to be spending so much time on their applications as such a crucial time of year.
In preparation for the change, the Chancellor’s Award was recently expanded to include students who received a 99.90 ATAR (previously awarded to 99.95 only). This cohort accounted for a large number of the Sydney Scholars Awards historically given to students. Preliminary 2023 offer and enrolment numbers also show that more students who achieved an ATAR of 95.00+ received the University’s new MySydney Scholarship, than those who received the Sydney Scholars Award. There continues to be many academic merit scholarships available at a faculty level which we encourage students to apply for. The scholarships search tool will help students discover the range of scholarships that they may be eligible for.
UNE- REDDAM HOUSE students are invited to participate in the University of New England’s 2024 Early Entry program. Applications are open now, the process is free, easy to complete and completely online.
Year 12 for further information see the email sent to you by Ms Jones during this week.
