THEATER IN ROSARIO, ARGENTINA ARCH 401 | DESIGN FALL 2015

WHEN VISITING THE SITE IN ARGENTINA I WAS ABLE TO LEARN NOT ONLY ABOUT SECOND WORLD CONSTRUCTION BUT ALSO ABOUT ROSARIO’S HERITAGE. I LEARNED THAT ROSARIO’S ARCHITECTURAL AND CULTURAL HISTORY CAN BE DEFINE BY STANDING ON A ROOFTOP AND VIEWING THE DIFFERENT ELEVATIONS, STYLES, AND NEIGHBORHOODS FROM AN AERIAL PERSPECTIVE. SO ASIDE FROM THE THEATER THAT IS LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THIS PROJECT THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT OBJECTIVE WAS TO ALLOW FOR VISITORS TO VIEW ROSARIO FROM AN

AERIAL POINT THAT LOOKS OUT AT THE CITY’S TRADITIONAL FABRIC, NEW DEVELOPMENT, AND RIVER. GRATEFULLY THE WEATHER OF SOUTH AMERICA ALLOWS FOR A LOW MAINTENANCE EXTERIOR THEATER ON THE ROOF THAT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. THE ELLIPTICAL SHAPE IS INFLUENCED BY THE FACT THAT THIS SPECIFIC SITE CAN BE ACCESSED ON ALL SIDES BY BOTH PEDESTRIAN AND AUTOMOBILES.

ROMA, ITALIA A PEDESTRIAN CITY ARCH 402 | DESIGN SPRING 2016

WHILE STUDYING ABROAD IN ROME FOR 5 MONTHS I SOUGHT TO ANALYZE THE CITY AREA THAT INCLUDED PIAZZA VENEZIA, THE CAMPIDOGLIO, AND THEATER MARCELLUS IN COMPARISON TO THE 1748 NOLLI PLAN. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE DEFINITION OF PUBLIC SPACE HAS CHANGED DRAMATICALLY SINCE 1748. THIS IS CLEAR THROUGH THE MASSIVE DEMOLITION, THE ADDITION OF GATES AND NEWLY PRIVATIZED SPACE, AS WELL AS THE ACTIVE AUTOMOBILE INTERVENTION. THROUGH THIS DESIGN PROJECT I HAVE NEGOTITATED A NEW RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE PEDESTRIAN AND THE

AUTOMOBILE. I PROPOSE A CREATION OF VERTICAL WALLS THAT ARE THICK ENOUGH TO NEGOTIATE TRAFFIC THROUGH ITS INTERIOR SPACE ON GROUND LEVEL AND PROVIDE PEDESTRIAN VIEWS WITH AERIAL VIEWS OF THE CITY. THIS DESIGN PROVIDES TEMPORARY LIVING CONDITIONS AS WELL AS AN OPEN MARKET ON THE ROOF AND GROUND LEVELS.

BOAT HOUSE AT COLUMBIA U ARCH 302 | DESIGN SPRING 2015

THIS BOAT HOUSE DESIGN USES THE CIRCULATION OF A RAMP-SYSTEM TO MODIFY THE LANDSCAPE OF THE SITE. THIS CIRCULATION SYSTEM TEARS THROUGH THE FABRIC OF THE BUILDING ALLOWING FOR PROGRAM TO BE SEPARATED. THIS SEPARATION CREATES UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR VISITORS TO SEE THROUGH THE BUILDING INTO OTHER SPACES.

LINE TO CISTERN

WHAT IS SIGNIFICANT ABOUT THIS DESIGN IS THAT, EACH INTERVENTION - WHETHER IT BE LAYERING OF PROGRAM/ MATERIALS, MANIPULATION OF GREEN ROOF SURFACES, OR THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR CIRCULATION/PROGRAMS - CONSTANTLY MAINTAIN A RELATIONSHIP TO ONE ANOTHER.

ARCH 301 | COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN FALL 2014 THOMAS AND WATERBURY DESIGN INCLUDES FOUR DISTINCT MASSES WHICH ARE THE CURTAIN WALL COMMUNAL SPACE, AND THE TWO RESIDENTIAL MASSES THAT “HANG” OFF THE MAIN AND CENTER MASS. WE DESIGNED A CIRCULAR CORNER CONDITION FOR A SMOOTHER CONNECTION BETWEEN THE QUIET NARROW STREET OF GRAND AVE AND THE BUSY COMMERCIAL WIDE STREET OF MYRTLE AVE. OUR STONE VENEER RAIN SCREEN FACADE EMBRACES THE SHIFTING WALLS AND DOUBLE HEIGHT SPACES CREATED BY THE VARIETY IN OUR PLANS.

INTERIOR SENSORY INSTALLATION ARCH 403 | DESIGN FALL 2016

THIS INSTALLATION TAKES PLACE IN THE ENTRANCE LOBBY AND MEZZANINE LEVEL OF A PERFORMING ARTS CENTER. IT IS AN INSTALLATION THAT’S INSPIRED BY TWO OF THE STAGE SETS IN THE SWAN LAKE BALLET: THE FOREST WHICH ONE CAN EXPERIENCE IN THE LOBBY LEVEL MAZE AND THE LAKE WHICH ONE CAN EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE INSTALLATION. THIS INSTALLATION CAN BE BROKEN DOWN INTO THE FOLLOWING SENSES: SOUND OF THE WATER MOVING, OF MUSIC PLAYING IN THE GREEN WALLS. SMELL - OF THE GREEN WALL. TOUCH - OF THE COLD AIR BLOWING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONED BENCHES. SIGHT - OF THE LIGHT DISPLAY REFLECTED ON THE CEILING TO IMITATE LIGHT REFLECTING ON A LAKE

CENTRALIZING CIRCULATION ARCH 202 | DESIGN FALL 2013

SITE: WAVE HILL PARK IN RIVERDALE, NY

PROJECT: CONTAINS A LEARNING, LIVING, AND EXHIBITION SPACE. DESIGN: BASED ON A STRUCTURAL GRID SYSTEM OF 20’X15’. THE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM WAS THEN MANIPULATED AROUND THE MOST PUBLIC SPACE, THE LECTURE/GALLERY. CIRCULATION WAS DESIGN TO FLOW WITH THE GENERAL CIRCULATION OF THE ENTIRE PARK, WHICH IS NORTH TO SOUTH ORIENTED. THE MANIPULATION OF PROGRAM CONTAINED THE MAIN CIRCULATION OF WAVE HILL ACADEMY IN ONE CENTRAL LOCATION, AT THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE BUILDING

DRAWING IN ITALY

ARCH 451 | URBAN STUDIES SPRING 2016 WHILE STUDYING ABROAD I EXPLORED FREEHAND DRAWING AS A MEANS OF INVESTIGATING AND COMPREHENDING ITALY’S URBAN SPACE. VARIOUS TECHNIQUES AND MEDIA WERE INTRODUCED TO ME DURING THE CIRCULUM, INCLUDING: ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE, FIGURE AND GROUND, SHADE AND SHADOW, AND MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVE DRAWING. DRAWINGS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: MONTAVA, NORTHERN ITALY - INTERIOR OF ST. ANDREA ORTIGIA, SICILY - PIAZZA DUOMO ROME, ITALY - LOOKING TOWARD THE CAMPIDOGLIO SIRACUSA, SICILY - INSIDE A QUARRY

ORTHOGRAPHIC HAND DRAWINGS OF 3-DIMENSIONAL FORM ARCH 101 | DESIGN FALL 2012

THE PARAMETERS OF THIS PROJECT’S DESIGN WAS THE NINE-SQUARE GRID.

CONDENSE - TO MAKE SOMETHING MORE CONCENTRATED WAS THE VERB CHOSEN TO DRIVE THE DESIGN. TO UNDERSTAND HOW LANGUAGE CAN BE COMMUNICATED THROUGH ARCHITECTURE, THE ADJECTIVES DEEP, THICK, AND HEAVY WERE PAIRED WITH CONDENSED.

MEASURING ACTIVITY ARCH 102 | DESIGN SPRING 2013

THIS PROJECT BEGAN INVESTIGATING THE READING ROOM CONDITIONS AT THE PRATT LIBRARY BY OBSERVING EACH ROOM FROM THE SAME POINT ALONG THE Z AXIS. PROGRAMS OF THE BODY WERE ARTICULATED THROUGH SPATIAL CONDITIONS. THRESHOLD CONDITIONS BETWEEN THE READING ROOM AND IT’S SURROUNDING SPACES DETERMINED HOW ACTIVITIES INTERFACED. THE TECHNIQUES THAT WERE USED TO ANALYZE THE READING ROOMS HELPED DESIGN THE FINAL PROJECT. THE FINAL PROJECT WAS DESIGN BY ANALYZING THRESHOLD CONDITIONS THAT ARE MADE BETWEEN TWO BODIES WITH INTERRUPTION FROM LIGHT AND WIND CONDITIONS.

EVERY YEAR BALTIMORE’S ANNUAL ART FESTIVAL, ARTSCAPE ACTIVATES THE CITY AND FILLS IT WITH LIFE. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT EVENT, FILLING THE STREETS WITH THAT UNIQUE BALTIMORE CULTURAL ACTIVITY: PERFORMANCE. WE ARE MAKING A BUILDING THAT ENGAGES THE FESTIVAL ON THE PUBLIC GROUND AND BRINGS ITS ACTIVITY INTO THE INTERIOR SPACE OF THE THEATER, ALLOWING PEOPLE TO GATHER AROUND IT BOTH IN THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING CREATING A TRULY CIVIC SPACE IN BALTIMORE.

DEGREE PROJECT RESEARCH PERFORMING ARTS CENTER PORT COVINGTON, BALTIMORE MD

OUR PROJECT IS A REFLECTION OF BALTIMORE AS A CITY OF THEATERS, A CITY OF CULTURE, AND A CITY OF PERFORMANCE ART.

DESPITE COMMON PERCEPTION, BALTIMORE IS A CULTURALLY ACTIVE CITY HOUSING NUMEROUS THEATERS. THE CITY’S WIDERANGING CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPED IN RESPONSE TO ITS INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS IN THE 19TH CENTURY, WITH MANY OF THE THEATERS THAT WERE BUILT IN THE 1910’S. CURRENTLY THERE ARE NUMEROUS PROJECTS THAT INVOLVE THE DEVELOPMENT OF BALTIMORE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ITS CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS. THESE PROJECTS SEEK TO REACTIVATE THE THEATER FABRIC OF THE CITY AND STRIDES TOWARD REACTIVATING BALTIMORE’S PERFORMING ARTS CULTURE AS A WAY TO REINTRODUCE THE CITY IN A POSITIVE LIGHT.

ASIDE FROM THESE CIVIC ATTEMPTS TO REVITALIZE THE CULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE CITY THERE ARE OTHER PRIVATE PLANS TO REDEVELOP FORMER INDUSTRIAL SITES IN BALTIMORE. ONE SUCH PLAN IS LOCATED IN PORT COVINGTON 3.1 MILES FROM BALTIMORE’S INNER HARBOR, ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF I-95. ENTREPRENEUR AND CEO OF UNDER ARMOUR, KEVIN PLANK INTENDS TO BUILD RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL AND CIVIC BUILDINGS TO CREATE JOBS, WITH THE HOPES OF REVITALIZING LOCAL ECONOMY IN HIS PLAN WE SEE AN IDEAL OPPORTUNITY TO INTERVENE, BY INTRODUCING A BUILDING FOR A PERFORMING ARTS CENTER, TO BE LOCATED IN PORT COVINGTON WHERE HE HAS INCLUDED A PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN HIS MASTER PLAN.
