Spring 2022
Did we all make it through another long winter?! This one seemed longer than most because we combined our last two seasons into one guide. That means we are double-ready for sunshine, green grass, and water fun to begin in our Spring Edition. This season’s Activity Guide provides a sneak peek into our upcoming Summer Adventures camps and our early bird Spring Swim Lessons along with some new classes to stay active and healthy. Martial Arts is back with a whole new program, and the very popular Youth Cross Country races will begin in March.
Community PSA Alert! Last year, camps and classes filled very quickly because spaces were limited. Don’t wait to enroll in something that looks like a good fit for your family. Spaces are limited again this year—don’t miss out! With that, let’s ride into spring like the cool kids on the cover.
Would your family like to be featured on the cover of the Activity Guide?
Send us an email at reddingrecreation@gmail.com, and use Cover Photo in the email subject line. We are scheduling photo shoots with local families in our beautiful parks. You get some great family photos, and we get your permission to use them in our communication efforts. Everybody wins!

Martial Arts
Ages 8–12 | Caldwell Park
The Fierce Tigers Martial Arts Association (FTMA) is dedicated to building true confidence through knowledge of the mind, honesty in the heart, and strength in the body. For over 30 years, FTMA has preserved a long and proud tradition that has been handed down for generations. A new collection of events and activities is available each year for children, families, and all community members to enjoy. Check out first5shasta.org/week-of-theyoung-child for the list of events.

Group Swim Lessons
All Ages | $30*
based on frequency and season
Spring lessons are four 30-minute lessons completed M–Th in one week. Summer and Fall lessons are comprised of eight 30-minute lessons completed M–Th over the course of 2 weeks. Sign up for as many sessions as you’d like! *An additional $5 fee will be added if you register for any swim course on the start date.
Ready to learn to swim?!
Follow these 4 simple steps to determine what swim lesson class is best for your swimmer.
step 1. Choose an age group
Swim lessons are divided first by age group. The chart at the right breaks the groups into Parent & Me, Preschool, & School Age. Aqua Athletes are school-age students who are more confident in the water and are ready for more of a challenge. You will select your swim lessons from age group first.
step 2. Choose the water skill level
After age, swim lessons are divided by skill & confidence level. If your child is timid around the water, start at the very beginning of the lesson tier and move your way up during the season. If your child is confident, likes the water, and likes putting their face in the water, you can decide which skill level to start with. It is always recommended to start low and grow into the appropriate level.
step 3. Select your session & time slot
Swim lessons are divided into sessions: Spring, Summer, & Fall. Choose the week your child can attend (session), and select the time slot you can commit to that week. Swim lessons will be held at the same time each day.
step 4. Register Online
Search & register online for swim lessons. These will be organized by age group and skill level (fish name). Use the course codes listed at right to register for spring swim lessons, or go online to register for all swim lessons.
2/Week Option for Parent & Me Classes!
Swim lessons 4 times a week might be too taxing on the littlest swimmers. We have a special 2/Week Option for Parent & Me age groups in the summer only! You still get eight 30-minute classes, but they happen over the course of 4 weeks instead of over 2 weeks like regular classes.
Private Lessons
You might want to sign up for Private swim lessons to give you or your swimmer more individual attention. We have private lessons available individually or private lesson packages, which include 4 private lessons that take place in a one week session. Lessons are for all ages, toddlers to adults!
Individual Private Lessons
Private: $25/student/half-hour Semi-Private: $20/two students/half-hour; Semi-Private lessons are for 2 students who will be signed up together and are at a similar skill level. Great for siblings & friends.
Small Group Private: $14/four students/half-hour
Individual Private Lessons are available M–Th at the following times: 9:15am, 12:10pm, or 6:40pm. To schedule a private lesson, call the Recreation Office at 225.4095 or the Redding Aquatic Center (after June 10th) at 245.7247.
Private Lesson Package Deal
