Worship Order July 26th 2020 German Church Atlanta
Prelude Welcome Psalm 112 Blessed are those who honor the Lord, who greatly delight in his commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. For the righteous will never be moved; they will be remembered forever. They are not afraid of bad news; their heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. Their heart is steady; they will not be afraid, until they look in triumph on their adversaries. They have distributed freely; they have given to the poor; their righteousness endures forever. Song 1: It is well
Isaiah 43: 1-7 But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; 1
I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. 3 For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush[a] and Seba in your stead. 4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life. 5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. 6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth— 7 everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”
Epistle: 1 Johannes 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son 2
into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
Song 2: Geist und die Braut
Sermon/Reading of the Gospel: Mark 9: 14-29 14 And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. 15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him. 16 And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” 17 And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. 18 And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” 19 And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.” 20 And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and 3
he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. 21 And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” The Father shouted: I believe, help my unbelief! Jesus then healed the child. And when the disciples wanted to know later why they had not been able to heal the boy, Jesus answered: This kind can only be overcome with nothing but prayer.
Song 3: Denn dazu wurde Gottes Sohn offenbar
Intercessory Prayer Out of your hands, eternal and merciful God, We receive these next months of a year that is so different from what we had imagined.. You will go with us, you show us the truth, you are our life. We ask you: Stay graciously devoted to us. The next few months are still hidden from us. So, we ask you for all, who are walking into the unknown, 4
who are concerned about what is to come, and for all those who will become guilty. We ask you for all, who are threatened with violence, who are carrying heavy loads, or who are approaching death. We ask you for all, who are happy, for the children who are born, for the people who find each other. We ask you: Go with all those we love and who belong to us. Stay graciously devoted to us. The truth is being beset by lies this year. So, we ask you for all, Who have the power, who speak publicly, and who influence the thinking and actions of others. We ask you for all, who love the truth, who build bridges and reconcile, who are in danger for the sake of telling the truth. We ask you for all, who are in search of the truth and of peace, who learn, teach and research, who make us known the truth and who serve peace. We ask you: Show your truth to the whole world. Stay graciously devoted to us. You are our life also in this difficult year. So, we ask you for all, who belong to you, 5
for your worldwide Church and the congregation in this place, for the community gathered here. So, we ask you for our friends, our enemies, our loved ones. In all the remaining days of this new year You are and remain our life. We trust you, our Lord and God, and ask: Stay graciously devoted to us. Amen. We pray together: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sinned against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen
Blessing
