God is ready to rule our lives. Those who realize this will respond with repentance and faith. Before the reading: The Holy Gospel according... | Glory to you, O Lord. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.” As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. At the conclusion of the prayers: Amen As we celebrate Christ embodied in human form, we pray for God’s blessing on the church, the world, and all of creation. A brief silence. God our rock and deliverance, do not let your church be shaken. We trust you never abandon your promises to the most vulnerable among us. Give your church wisdom and empathy as we walk alongside our vulnerable neighbors and receive the gifts they have to offer us. God of grace, receive our prayer. God our hope and refuge, you placed the fish in the sea. Guide our care of oceans and all creatures that live in them. Bless the Right Whale population during their current calving season off the Georgia coast. Hold us accountable for actions that endanger ocean waters and the people and animals who depend on them. God of grace, receive our prayer. God who cares for the suffering, care for survivors of assault and sexual abuse and sustain all who minister to them. Guide churches and all institutions in creating safe environments and holding aggressors accountable. Keep safe any who live under threat of violence, those living in poverty, and any among us who are ill or in pain, especially… God of grace, 4

receive our prayer. God of resurrection and new life, as the first disciples shared the good news, empower us and this faith community to be open to your call and confident in our invitations. When we are uncertain of your call, assure us. When we have strayed from your ways, redirect us. God of grace, receive our prayer. God who holds the saints tenderly, we trust that you welcome them into your care. Comfort those who grieve, even as we place our hope in your salvation. God of grace, receive our prayer. Knowing that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us, we offer these prayers and the silent prayers of our hearts in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. EUCHARISTIC PRAYER O God most mighty, O God most merciful, hear us as we praise, call us to your meal, grant us your life. When the earth was formless and empty, you created order and beauty. When Abraham and Sarah were barren, you delivered them a child; when the Israelites were enslaved, you led them to freedom; Ruth faced starvation, David fought Goliath, and the psalmists cried out for healing—with all your people we implore you to save us, and we praise you for granting us life. You came to our world in Jesus our friend. He was born among the poor, he lived under oppression, he wept over the city. Full of compassion, he granted the people your life. 5

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Come, Breath of creation, enliven our bones. Come, living Water, replenish the earth. Come, holy Fire, make us lights in the world. Like a tree rich with fruit, nourish us with your bounty. From your throne, teach us justice. In your arms, give us peace. Rev Yohanna Katanacho invites us to encounter the text anew, this time from the perspective of a twenty-first-century Palestinian Christian. Challenging the claim that Christ belongs to a particular denomination, nation, or race, Katanacho presents the Gospel of John as introducing a new world order defined not by race or nationality, but by suffering and love. The Atlanta Community Food Bank’s annual Hunger Walk Run 2024 will take place on March 10, 2024, and Team Redeemer will be there to support the Lutheran Community Food Ministry, Inspiritus, and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Hunger Walk Run is a hybrid event, which means it takes place everywhere—on every sidewalk, track, and trail in your own neighborhood, and at the Home Depot Backyard next to Mercedes Benz Stadium! Festivities at the Home Depot Backyard kick off at noon with onsite registration and entertainment. The 5K Fun Walk and Run starts at 2 p.m. and the event ends at 4 p.m. Mark your calendar today and then watch for information on when and how to register beginning in January.
