Mark 12:38-44
After engaging in a series of public arguments with religious leaders in the temple, Jesus contrasts the proud and oppressive ways of those leaders with the sacrificial humility and poverty of the widow.

As [Jesus] taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”
He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

Rooted in God’s abundant love for the world, let us pray for our neighbors, the church, and all of creation.

Renew your church, O God. Make us servants to one another for the sake of the gospel. Instill a heart for service and a passion for justice in our bishops, deacons, pastors, and lay leaders, especially our Ministry teams and council members. As we elect new members to our council, we give thanks for all who offer their service. Merciful God, receive our prayer.
Renew our community, O God. Bless the partnership we share with Lutheran Towers and the many gifts our neighbors there bring to our faith community. May it continue to be a place of refuge, respite, and abundant life for all residents. Merciful God, receive our prayer.
Renew the nations, O God. Heal our nation’s veterans from the unseen wounds of war. Tend to their trauma and soothe burdened consciences. Guide leaders of the world to end conflicts and pursue peace. Merciful God, receive our prayer.
Renew our country, O God. We give you thanks for a peaceful and orderly national election. Guide our President-elect and Vice President-elect as they work through this time of transition and prepare for their administration. Empower all our elected officials to serve with humility and pursue policies and legislation that will ensure peace, liberty, and justice for all. Merciful God, receive our prayer
Renew your people, O God. Protect those in our communities who are vulnerable or ill, Accompany persons who are unemployed or underemployed, children who are in foster care, and those who live alone. Watch over and uphold them. Merciful God, receive our prayer.
Renew this congregation, O God. Give us clarity in our mission and boldness in our witness. Bless our ministries that attend to basic needs of any who lack sufficient resources, that all may live with dignity, especially the Lutheran Community Food Ministry. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Holy are you, and blessed is your Son, Jesus Christ. By his death and resurrection, he conquered death and opened to us the way of eternal life. Through him, you called us to be your holy people, to live by faith, to work in love, and to bear witness to your grace.
On the night he was betrayed, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take, eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

Special Opportunity Today - Lutheran Towers Sunday
Today we will celebrate Lutheran Towers Sunday. Ms. Betty Stewart “Purple Betty” will share her story during the services, and we’ll have the opportunity to meet other residents, including Robert West.
Known for his iconic artwork of Atlanta landmarks and railroad art, Robert West has been a resident of Lutheran Towers for more than six years and is using his talents to “give back” to the vibrant community that has become his family over the past several years. West is donating print #1 in a limited series of 21 prints of his painting “ Fabulous,” for a silent auction. “Fabulous” portrays the historic Fox Theatre at night, illuminated by its iconic neon signage. The marquee advertises an evening event, capturing a bustling street scene with people dressed for a formal occasion, walking under the glow of the theatre’s lights. The rich architectural details of the Fox Theatre are highlighted, including its distinctive towers and ornate entrance, which are set against a backdrop of the city skyline and an evening sky filled with stars. The wet street reflects the lights, adding vibrancy and depth to the scene. This artwork evokes a sense of elegance and nostalgia, blending modern touches with a classic, timeless setting.

Group for Parents of Middle School Confirmands
Hallie Dillon is facilitating a group for all the parents of confirmation youth (6th-8th grade), to discuss the materials the confirmands are learning and for general mutual support. Children’s Christmas Program
Stars! Angels! Shepherds! Kings! (and all royalty!) We are preparing again for our children’s Christmas Program this year with our favorite songs and costumes! This is a meaningful way for our kids to make the good news of this ancient and beautiful story fresh each year. Rehearsals during Sunday School on Oct. 20, Nov. 3, 10, 17, 24, with a Dress Rehearsal on Saturday, December 7: 9:30-11:00 am. The performance is Sunday, December 8: 10 am (9:30 'call time' for performers). Ages 2- 5th grade are welcome. To register, fill out the Sunday School form. Join Faithful Hands Ministry for the First Fall 2024 Hat and Scarf Challenge!
We're collecting hats and scarves for the Food Ministries' Holiday Meals this Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you can make a scarf, cowl, or hat, by Thanksgiving, great! If not, you have until Christmas to contribute. Knit or crochet as many as you like just ensure scarves are at least 60 inches long and use any pattern you enjoy.
This is a wonderful way to support those who rely on our Food Ministry. Completed items can be dropped off in the Fall 2024 Challenge box in Room 119. As a gift to the community, the concert is presented free of charge.
