The Order of Worship at 11:00 am

As always, we pray that worship at Redeemer is a blessing for you, even as your participation blesses us, whether we are gathering in the name of Christ in-person or online. As you are comfortable, we encourage you to sing the hymns and to sing or speak the congregational portions of the liturgy in bold type.

Please use the links available on the viewing page to let us know that you are worshiping with us, to submit any prayer requests, to let us know if you need help or are available to help a neighbor, and to continue giving financially to support the ongoing ministries of Redeemer.

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS

GATHERING

The Holy Spirit gathers us in unity on the first day of the week, the day of Christ’s resurrection. Standing HYMN 880 O God Beyond All Praising

CONFESSION

In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. | Amen. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. | Amen.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Kneeling or seated

Most merciful God, | we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. | Amen.

Standing GREETING

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. | And also with you.

KYRIE

Seraphim Choir, cantor

In peace let us pray to the Lord.

For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord.

For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.

For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord.

Help, save, comfort and defend us, gracious Lord.

HYMN OF PRAISE

PRAYER OF THE DAY

The Lord be with you. | And also with you.

CHILDREN’S SERMON

THE FIRST READING 1 Kings 17:8-16

Karin Mayo, Lector

This chapter begins the story of Elijah. God sends a drought on Israel because of the sins of King Ahab. This passage depicts God’s saving acts not only on behalf of Elijah, but also on behalf of those who are associated with the prophet, even a foreigner, the widow of Zarephath.

The word of the Lord came to [Elijah,] saying,  “Go now to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and live there; for I have commanded a widow there to feed you.”  So he set out and went to Zarephath. When he came to the gate of the town, a widow was there gathering sticks; he called to her and said, “Bring me a little water in a vessel, so that I may drink.” As she was going to bring it, he called to her and said, “Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”  But she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have nothing baked, only a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a jug; I am now gathering a couple of sticks, so that I may go home and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”  Elijah said to her, “Do not be afraid; go and do as you have said; but first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterwards make something for yourself and your son.  For thus says the Lord the God of Israel: The jar of meal will not be emptied and the jug of oil will not fail until the day that the Lord sends rain on the earth.”  She went and did as Elijah said, so that she as well as he and her household ate for many days.  The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.

Word of God, word of life. | Thanks be to God.

ANTHEM

What Shall we Give to God?

Robert A. Benson Seraphim Choir

THE SECOND READING Hebrews 9:24-28

The letter to the Hebrews describes Christ as a high priest who offers himself as a sacrifice for our sin. Christ does not die again and again each year. He died once, is alive with God, and will reveal himself on the last day.

Christ did not enter a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, but he entered into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.  Nor was it to offer himself

again and again, as the high priest enters the Holy Place year after year with blood that is not his own;  for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the age to remove sin by the sacrifice of himself.  And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once, and after that the judgment,  so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Word of God, word of life. | Thanks be to God.

Standing GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

THE HOLY GOSPEL

Mark 12:38-44

After engaging in a series of public arguments with religious leaders in the temple, Jesus contrasts the proud and oppressive ways of those leaders with the sacrificial humility and poverty of the widow.

Before the reading: The Holy Gospel according... | Glory to you, O Lord.

As [Jesus] taught, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,  and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! They devour widows’ houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

He sat down opposite the treasury, and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.  A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury.  For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

The Gospel of the Lord. | Praise to You, O Christ.

Standing HYMN 583

Take My Life, that I May Be

Pastor Jonathan Trapp

APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Kneeling or seated PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

Each portion of the prayers concludes: Merciful God, | receive our prayer. At the conclusion of the prayers: Amen

Rooted in God’s abundant love for the world, let us pray for our neighbors, the church, and all of creation.

A brief silence.

Renew your church, O God. Make us servants to one another for the sake of the gospel. Instill a heart for service and a passion for justice in our bishops, deacons, pastors, and lay leaders, especially our Ministry teams and council members. As we elect new members to our council, we give thanks for all who offer their service. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

Renew our community, O God. Bless the partnership we share with Lutheran Towers and the many gifts our neighbors there bring to our faith community. May it continue to be a place of refuge, respite, and abundant life for all residents. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

Renew the nations, O God. Heal our nation’s veterans from the unseen wounds of war. Tend to their trauma and soothe burdened consciences. Guide leaders of the world to end conflicts and pursue peace. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

Renew our country, O God. We give you thanks for a peaceful and orderly national election. Guide our President-elect and Vice President-elect as they work through this time of transition and prepare for their administration. Empower all our elected officials to serve with

humility and pursue policies and legislation that will ensure peace, liberty, and justice for all. Merciful God, receive our prayer

Renew your people, O God. Protect those in our communities who are vulnerable or ill, Accompany persons who are unemployed or underemployed, children who are in foster care, and those who live alone. Watch over and uphold them. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

Renew this congregation, O God. Give us clarity in our mission and boldness in our witness. Bless our ministries that attend to basic needs of any who lack sufficient resources, that all may live with dignity, especially the Lutheran Community Food Ministry. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

Happy are those whose help was in you. We give thanks for all your faithful ones who praised you as their God all their life long. As we eagerly wait for you, inspire us by their lives of service. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

We offer our prayers to you, gracious God, trusting in your boundless love for all that you have made, through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Amen Standing PEACE

When the Poor Ones

The Spanish and English texts are found at hymn 725.

Miguel Manzano

When the poor ones, who have nothing, still are giving; | when the thirsty pass the cup, water to share; | when the wounded offer others strength and healing: | We see God, here by our side, walking our way. When compassion gives the suff'ring consolation; | when expecting brings to birth hope that was lost; | when we choose love, not the hatred all around us: | We see God, here by our side, walking our way.

When the goodness poured from heaven fills our dwellings; | when the nations work to change war into peace; | when the stranger is accepted as our neighbor. | We see God, here by our side, walking our way.

Standing OFFERTORY HYMN

OFFERING PRAYER

Lord Jesus, our portion and our cup, you offered yourself in love for the world, and in this meal you nourish us with your life. Fill us with your abundance, that we may feed the hungry and welcome the stranger, trusting in your name. | Amen

GREAT THANKSGIVING

The Lord be with you. | And also with you. Lift up your hearts! | We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. | It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. By the witness of your saints you show us the hope of our calling and strengthen us to run the race set before us, that we may delight in your mercy and rejoice with them in glory. And so, with all the saints, with the choirs of angels and all the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

A. Olivar, Miguel Manzano, and San Pablo Internacional SSP, admin. OCP Publications. Arranged by David Hansen by permission of the copyright owners.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son, Jesus Christ. By his death and resurrection, he conquered death and opened to us the way of eternal life. Through him, you called us to be your holy people, to live by faith, to work in love, and to bear witness to your grace. On the night he was betrayed, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take, eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Drink from this, all of you. This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this in remembrance of me." Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine. Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we, filled with your Spirit, may be renewed in our calling to live as your saints in this world. Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and forever. | Amen

Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray…

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Special Opportunity Today - Lutheran Towers Sunday

Today we will celebrate Lutheran Towers Sunday. Ms. Betty Stewart “Purple Betty” will share her story during the services, and we’ll have the opportunity to meet other residents, including Robert West.

Known for his iconic artwork of Atlanta landmarks and railroad art, Robert West has been a resident of Lutheran Towers for more than six years and is using his talents to “give back” to the vibrant community that has become his family over the past several years. West is donating print #1 in a limited series of 21 prints of his painting “ Fabulous,” for a silent auction. “Fabulous” portrays the historic Fox Theatre at night, illuminated by its iconic neon signage. The marquee advertises an evening event, capturing a bustling street scene with people dressed for a formal occasion, walking under the glow of the theatre’s lights. The rich architectural details of the Fox Theatre are highlighted, including its distinctive towers and ornate entrance, which are set against a backdrop of the city skyline and an evening sky filled with stars. The wet street reflects the lights, adding vibrancy and depth to the scene. This artwork evokes a sense of elegance and nostalgia, blending modern touches with a classic, timeless setting.

Be sure to stop by the Sims Atrium to see the donated artwork and meet Mr. West. Bids will be accepted until November 30 via an online auction at https://www.32auctions.com/LutheranTowersFabulous
