Lutheran Church of the Redeemer’s Statement of Welcome

We serve a God of abundant grace and generosity Our worship is centered on the invitation that Christ offers at the communion table: all are welcome in this place. That welcome flows through all we do and say We open our arms to everyone who comes to share our love of God and all God’s people. We affirm and value the lives of everyone, including all who have been marginalized by ability, age, gender, gender identity, mental or physical health, poverty, race, sexual orientation, or any other circumstance Let our message be clear: all are welcome to participate fully in the life of our congregation. Come Join Us Today!

Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost Pastor Mark H. Larson, preaching

The theme of the Day

Today’s gospel starts with disciples obsessing over who will be closest to Jesus, leading to Jesus teaching his followers about God’s take on importance and power Here Jesus makes it explicit that the reversal of values in God’s community is a direct challenge to the values of the dominant culture, where wielding power over others is what makes you great When we pray “ your kingdom come ” we are praying for an end to tyranny and oppression We pray this gathered around the cross, a sign of great shame transformed to be the sign of great honor and service.

Stewardship

As part of our annual Stewardship Drive, during the month of October, we will once again gather in small groups at church, in people’s homes, and in local gathering spots for fellowship, relationship building, prayer, and dreaming about the future of our congregation. Sign-ups for gatherings are in the Sims Atrium or use the link

Hurricane Relief Efforts

Lutheridge and Lutherock have both been devastated. Volunteering:

We can currently take self-contained groups to help clear downed trees. Please contact Mitzie directly to schedule at 803-413-7827 mitzie@gsbfr.com She will make sure we have space for you and provide you with the current status of campus and what to expect.

You may make gifts at www.novusway.org by selecting “where needed most” or your preferred camp. We remain grateful for this extraordinary community It warms our hearts to see people without power posting, “leaning on my camp skills.” Camp helps make us who we are while reminding us whose we are. We will navigate this together knowing Christ is with us.

Inspiritus disaster relief teams are on the ground in Valdosta, Georgia, and Madison, Florida, working tirelessly to support survivors and guide them on the road to recovery. With your continued support, we hope to open an additional volunteer camp in the Savannah, Georgia region and will keep you updated as things develop. However, the scale of the destruction is immense, and we need your help to continue providing life-changing support.
