FIRE: AN INSTALLATION BY KEVINA-JO SMITH - KATOOMBA AREA When: to March 17, 2018 Where: 90-92 Great Western Highway Woodford NSW Fire is a site-specific installation by artist Kevina-Jo Smith at the Woodford Academy, the Blue Mountains oldest building. Smith’s installation engages with concerns of climate change and the bushfire season in the Blue Mountains. The installation responds to investigations of the Academy’s collection of research by historical guests, researchers, artists and the local Indigenous community, the Darug and Gundungurra People, who have provided records of documenting bushfire in the past, through written word and illustration. Kevina-Jo Smith’s artwork emerges from her collection and reuse of consumer by-product materials. Her process is a tribute to the natural world and a ritual against its destruction. Her work explores shelter, environments and cultural climates, through both exhibited works and the lived process behind those pieces. Smith currently resides in the Blue Mountains, a place which sustains and inspires her. People enter this competition from other areas and states from around Australia, the Wellington Quota Art Competition holds a high standard and maintains its reputation. Last year well-known artist Eris Fleming judged the Quota art competition. Kate uses a variety of techniques in her art, she has experimented with paint and a variety of other materials that have nurtured her unique style of art. More on: (02) 6840 1770 GREAT VOLCANIC MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE ORANGE When: TBA: March 2018 Where: Pinnacle Road Orange NSW The Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge is a ‘fun run’ style event where you can run or walk to the top of Mount Canobolas (1397m), near Orange NSW. There is one 11 kilometre course and a two wave start. While the course is mostly uphill only a couple of sections are steep. Start near Towac Pinnacle Picnic Grounds (off Pinnacle Road) you first visit Mt Towac (a steep section but the views make it worth the effort) and then to Young Man Canobolas before the final climb to Mt Canobolas (also steep). QUICK CHILLI PORK STIR-FRY INGREDIENTS • 200g pkt egg noodles • 1 tablespoon peanut oil • 500g Coles Australian Pork Mince/ steaks • 2 garlic cloves, crushed • 2 teaspoons finely grated ginger • 2 long red chillies, thinly sliced • 227g can water chestnut slices, rinsed, drained • 400g pkt Coles Supreme Vegetable Mix • 1/3 cup (95g) oyster sauce • 1/4 cup (35g) roasted peanuts, chopped • Thinly sliced long red chilli, extra • Coriander leaves • Lime wedges

METHOD Step 1 Cook the noodles following packet directions. Drain. Step 2 Meanwhile, heat the oil in a wok or large frying pan over high heat. Add the mince and cook, stirring with a wooden spoon to break up any lumps, for 5 mins or until cooked through. Step 3 Add the garlic, ginger, chilli, water chestnut and vegetable mix. Cook, stirring, for 2 mins or until vegetables are wilted. Add the oyster sauce and noodles and cook, stirring, until well combined and heated through. Step 4 Sprinkle the stir-fry with peanut, extra chilli and coriander. Serve with the lime wedges. source: taste.com.au

WALL CABINETS HOW TO INSTALL

STEP 1. MARK THE LINE ON THE WALL FOR THE BASE OF THE KITCHEN CABINET Choose where you want the cabinets to sit above your benchtop. A standard height is 600mm. Measure and mark that point above the bench. Then use a spirit level to draw a horizontal line at that height.

STEP 2. LIFT THE CABINETS UP INTO PLACE Put a couple of cloths down to protect the surface of your benchtop. Then place your cabinet stands on top of the cloths and adjust their height to the line on your wall. Get someone to help you lift the cabinets on to the stands and hold them in place. Adjust the stands to get the cabinets perfectly level.

STEP 3. SCREW THE CABINETS TO THE WALL Find the studs in the wall behind the cabinet and mark their positions on the cabinet. Pre-drill holes through the rear of the cabinet into the studs. Then secure the cabinets to the wall with large screws. The cabinets are quite heavy, so putting screws into the wall studs will help to hold them securely in place.

STEP 4. ATTACH THE DOORS TO THE WALL CABINETS Attach the cupboard doors to the cabinets by clicking the hinges onto the plates. The hinges have internal screws so you can adjust where the doors sit on the cabinets. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to adjust them for height, depth and angle
