The Wild Dog Mountains area to the west of Katoomba has a range of geographical features named after dogs including Mount Warrigal, Mount Yellow Dog and Dingo Creek, to name a few. Domestically, we have a complex relationship with our precious friends. They are our companions, protectors and work-mates. The dog has been inextricably sewn into our lives for thousands of years. mini christmas puddings Entertain a crowd with these festive, warm mini Christmas puddings, served with a creamy, egg custard.
INGREDIENTS • 1 1/2 cups mixed dried fruit • 1/2 cup dried cranberries • 1/2 cup soft and juicy figs, finely chopped • 2 tablespoons plain flour, sifted • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 3/4 cup fresh breadcrumbs • 1/2 cup red glace cherries, roughly chopped Equipment 12-hole (1/3-cup-capacity) muffin pan, electric mixer METHOD Step 1 Combine dried fruits and rum in a glass bowl. Cover. Set aside for 2 hours. Step 2 Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan-forced. Grease a 12-hole (1/3-cupcapacity) muffin pan. Line bases of holes with baking paper. Step 3 Using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until pale and creamy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating until combined (mixture may curdle). Add flour, baking powder, mixed spice and cinnamon. Fold in breadcrumbs. Stir in fruit mixture.
Step 4 Divide mixture evenly among pan holes. Smooth tops. Place in a large roasting pan. Pour enough boiling water into roasting pan to come halfway up side of muffin pan. Cover tightly with greased foil. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until just firm to touch. Stand for 5 minutes. Remove foil. Turn, top-side down, onto a tray lined with baking paper. Step 5 Meanwhile, make Custard: Place milk and cream in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, for 10 minutes or until almost boiling. Whisk yolks, sugar and cornflour in a bowl until thick and creamy. Slowly whisk in hot milk mixture. Return custard to pan. Cook, stirring, over medium-low heat for 12 minutes or until it coats the back of a spoon. Stir in brandy. Step 6 Drizzle warm puddings with Custard and top with cherries. Serve immediately. Place Massel Liquid Stock Vegetable Style in a medium saucepan and bring to the boil. Add cauliflower and boil, covered, for 5 minutes. Carefully flip cauliflower over and boil, covered, for another 5 minutes or until par-cooked.

DIY decorative christmas tree
STEP 3
You can never have enough storage space in your bathroom. That’s why these wooden towel shelves are the perfect addition to any bathroom. They’re easy to make and we’ll show you how. STEP 1. PREPARE YOUR WORK SPACE To make the job even easier, work out the length you want your shelves to be and have timber cut to the right size at selected Bunnings stores. Our shelves are 700mm long.

STEP 2. PREPARE THE PLYWOOD Using primer, paint or spray the plywood liberally and wait for it to dry. Primer provides excellent adhesion for the paint STEP 3. MEASURE THE PVC PIPE Measure PVC pipe and cut to a length of your choice. 8cm is a good place to start. Use PVC pipes of varying widths to suit your requirements STEP 4. CUT PVC PIPE TO LENGTH Using a hacksaw, cut the PVC pipes to size. Securing the PVC pipe with a vice will make cutting easier. Once your pipes are cut, sand the pipe edges so they are smooth.

STEP 5. PRIME THE PVC PIPE Spray the cut pipe with primer and wait for it to dry. STEP 6. PAINT THE PLYWOOD Using a colour of your choice, apply the first coat of paint to the plywood and let it dry. When dry, lightly sand it for a completely smooth surface, and apply the second coast.

STEP 7. PAINT THE PVC PIPE Using a selection of colours, paint or spray the PVC pipe pieces and let them dry. STEP 8. CREATE YOUR TREE Use masking tape to mark out a triangle shape on your plywood, it can be any size you like. Ensure the triangle is large enough to fit all the PVC pipe pieces.

STEP 9. GLUE THE PIPE PIECES TO THE PLYWOOD Using a hot glue gun, stick the PVC pipes to the plywood. Press down on the pipes for 3 to 5 seconds to ensure they are secure. When dry, remove the masking tape from the plywood. STEP 10. DECORATE YOUR TREE When you are confident the tree is dry, insert decorations of your choice into the pipes STEP 11. FINISHED! Now all you have to do is find the perfect place for your tree, stand back and admire it!
