The designs she creates for her company, Cloth Fabric, are inspired by her experiences and observation of the Australian landscape she loves. Her sketches and artworks are a key part of her design process, but in her new work, it’s her textile practice that informs and underpins her art work. For her exhibition Edge to Edge, Julie is printing large scale, unique state printed landscapes onto her existing hand-printed fabrics. Working with simple cut-paper stencils, she is creating richly layered works that celebrate the forms and colours of some of the favourite places she has visited over the last few years. Julie has printed both landscapes and streetscapes of places familiar to her, from Scottish lochs to the Tasman peninsula, and around the Blue Mountains in NSW where she lives and works..
