Wollongong Workshop Theatre is inviting you to come and spend a brief eternity with its two newest residents, Albert and Jameson; a pair of Vampires dealing with the pressures of modern life, the meaning of life and the afterlife and each other. In its tradition to bring locally written and produced works to the Illawarra stage, Workshop Theatre is opening it’s 2016 season with “Albert and Jameson: A Play with Vampires”; a new absurdist comedy, penned by local playwright Adam O’Brien of The Dire Theatre. The play centres on Albert and Jameson, a pathetic pair of vampires, as they explore the meaninglessness of life, regardless of your life, or rather, after-life span. The play is structured around the duo as they struggle with the three big “E’s”; eternity, enraged peasants and each other. Following a very public, very audible blunder by Albert, the pair are forced into hibernation. They awake in the modern world, but quickly discover that living in the age of Facebook, television and smart phones is about as tolerable as an eternity of one another’s company. With a cast of only three, Albert and Jameson: A Play with Vampires is a very intimate production that leaps between moments of rapier sharp wit and vicious verbal volleys, to moments of pure smut and childlike name calling, and of course everything from sensual blunders and violent murders in-between. coconut pudding with golden syrup This warm coconut pudding tastes sensational with a scoop of ice-cream and a drizzle of golden syrup. INGREDIENTS • Melted butter, to grease • 160ml (2/3 cup) golden syrup • 35g (1/3 cup) desiccated coconut • 125g butter, cubed, at room temperature • 115g (1/2 cup) caster sugar • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 2 eggs • g cups self raising flour • 125ml (1/2 cup) coconut milk • 6 scoops vanilla ice-cream, to serve

METHOD Step 1 Brush a 1L (4-cup) capacity heatproof, microwave-safe pudding bowl with melted butter to lightly grease. Pour 80ml (1/3 cup) of the golden syrup over the base. Step 2 Place the coconut in an oven bag and twist the opening to secure. Cook on High/800watts/100%, gently shaking the bag every minute, for 3 minutes or until the coconut is toasted. Step 3 Use an electric beater to beat the
butter, sugar and vanilla extract in a large bowl until well combined. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, beating well between each addition, until combined. dd the flour and coconut milk and stir until well combined. Use a large metal spoon to gently fold in the toasted coconut. Spoon the mixture over the golden syrup. Step 4 Cover the top of the pudding bowl with a sheet of non-stick baking paper and tie with unwaxed white kitchen string to secure. Place the pudding on a microwavesafe rack or upturned dinner plate and cook on Medium/500watts/50% for 9-11 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Step 5 Remove the pudding from the microwave and set aside for 5 minutes before turning out onto a large serving plate. Drizzle with the remaining golden syrup. Step 6 Cut into wedges and serve hot with vanilla ice-cream. Source: www.taste.com.au

INGREDIENTS • 225g (1 cup) white sugar • 80ml (1/3 cup) water • 1 x 400ml can coconut milk • 375ml (1 1/2 cups) milk • 6 eggs, lightly whisked • g cup, firmly packed brown sugar • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste • Toasted shredded coconut, to serve • Shredded lime rind, to serve

METHOD Step 1 Preheat oven to 160°C. Combine the white sugar and water in a medium saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to high and bring to the boil. Boil, without stirring, occasionally brushing down side of pan with a pastry brush dipped in water, for 3-4 minutes or until golden. Pour the caramel mixture evenly among eight 160ml (2/3-cup) capacity ovenproof ramekins. Set aside for 5

minutes or until set. Step 2 Whisk together the coconut milk, milk, egg, brown sugar and vanilla bean paste in a large bowl until well combined. Strain through a fine sie e into a ug. arefully pour over the caramel mixture in the ramekins. Step 3 Place the ramekins in a large roasting pan. Pour enough boiling water into the pan to reach halfway up the sides of the ramekins. Bake in oven for 35-40 minutes or until the custards are ust set. Step 4 Transfer to a baking tray and set aside for 1 hour to cool. Cover the ramekins with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 6 hours or overnight to chill. Step 5 To ser e, run a flat bladed knife around the inside edge of the ramekins and carefully turn onto serving plates. Sprinkle with shredded coconut and lime rind to serve. Source: www.taste.com.au

fruit jellies Here are two delicious fruit jellies to suit everyone’s taste after dinner. INGREDIENTS Orange & blue berry jellies • 500ml fresh apple and mango juice • 4 1/2 teaspoons gelatine powder • 6 small navel oranges, halved • 1 cup (140g) fresh or thawed frozen blueberries Cranberry & strawberry jellies • 500ml white cranberry strawberry fruit drink • 4 1/2 teaspoons gelatine powder • 6 small naval oranges, halved • 1/2 punnet (125g) strawberries, hulled, chopped
METHOD Step 1 Bring 200ml of juice to the boil. Stir in gelatine, whisking with a fork until dissolved. Add remaining juice, and stir until well combined. Step 2 With a small knife, cut around the orange between the flesh and skin. Scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Stand orange cups in muffin trays. Step 3 Spoon blueberries or strawberries into orange cups. Pour over jelly mixture and refrigerate for 3-4 hours, or until set. Serve cold. Photography by Louise Lister Source: www.taste.com.au
fruit loaf INGREDIENTS • 150g dried apricots • g dried figs • 150g pitted dates • 150g raisins • 2 cups orange juice • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda • 3/4 cup brown sugar • 2 eggs, lightly beaten • 2 cups White Wings Self-Raising Flour • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon • 1 teaspoon ground ginger • butter, to serve METHOD Step 1 Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease and line a 7cm deep, 10cm x 21cm (base) loaf pan with baking paper. Step 2 Combine dried fruit and juice in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring,
for 20 minutes or until liquid has been absorbed. Stir in bicarbonate of soda. Set aside for 10 minutes. Step 3 Transfer fruit mixture to a bowl. Stir in sugar and eggs. Sift flour and spices over fruit mixture. Stir gently to combine. Spoon into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. how to seal a door Sealing the gaps between your door and door frame is a highly effective way to help draft proof your home. It can help reduce your heating and cooling costs as well as make your home a more comfortable place to live. It’s a simple job that’s quick to do. STEP 1. PREPARE DOOR FRAME
Prepare the surface of your door frame. External door frames tend to gather dirt, so wipe it down with a damp cloth. If you find rough edges or lumps in the frame, scrape them down with a paint scraper and neaten the surface up by giving it a light sand. STEP 2. INSTALL THE WEATHER SEAL TAPE
Start up in the corner where the door meets the jamb. Peel off the backing on the tape and stick it to the top of the door frame. Run the tape the whole way down to the floor, keeping it nice and straight. Try not to pull the tape too hard as you work down the face – you don’t want to
stretch it. Cut the tape and repeat the process for the opposite side and along the top. STEP 3. CUT THE ALUMINIUM WEATHER STRIP TO SIZE
drilled. Remove the strip and pre-drill holes with a slightly thinner bit than the screws. Install the screws into the holes – but don’t drive them all the way in. This way you can slide the weather strip down onto the screws. Once the strip is in place, push the flap down to make sure that the rubber strip is touching the sill the whole way along. When you’re happy that it’s sealing properly, tighten all the screws and secure the strip to the door.
Aluminium weather strips are made wider than the size of a standard door. You need to cut them down to size before fitting. Start by shutting your door. Mark where the frame meets the door. Open your door and put the weather strip up against the marks. Copy those marks onto the strip, then use a hacksaw and cutting blade to cut the strip.
STEP 5. MOUNT THE ACTUATING BUTTON ON THE DOOR FRAME
STEP 4. ATTACH THE WEATHER STRIP TO THE DOOR
The actuating button pushes the weather strip flap down as the door closes. To install the button, shut your door and push the flap down. Then hold the button in place, so that it keeps the strip flap down, and screw it in to place. It’s a good idea to mount the button on the hinge side of the door frame.
