First and foremost, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to my mum for her do’a, my supervisor Prof Meor for the relentless support and guidance in the direction of writing and drawing my project. Her extensive knowledge, motivation and supervision have seen to steady progression of my research and writing of this project. Without a competent mentor such as her, I would not have been able to achieve the satisfactory completion of this project. Apart from my supervisor, I would like to extend my appreciation to lecturers for the guidance and assistance in refining the content and direction of my thesis project, as their insightful comments and raised questions prompted me to deepen my critical thinking on the subject. Apart from my lecturers, I would like to extend my appreciation to the Architons!

the sport centre will be the venue for the big events for example Paralympic Games. The Sport Centre will be integrated to the Stadium Shah Alam, Womens Fitness and Wellness Facility, parking building and also future development of LRT 3 station.
B AC K G O R U N D O F T H E S T U DY The involvement of Para Athletes in Malaysia was increasing since 1984 until now. For people with disabilities, the opportunity of pursuing sports may represent a fundamentally important part of their lives regardless of whether sports are intended for their rehabilitation, for their recreational activities or for achieving the best performance. On the whole, more and more people with disabilities are actively taking part in sports, as can be seen in the ever growing numbers of participants of Malaysian Para athlete’s in the national and international games. In order to ensure accessibility of sports facilities for all athletes and to allow more professionalization of sports for people with disabilities in Malaysia, planning and architectural design must fulfill certain conditions that take into account a wide range of needs of all participants. Sports facilities must essentially be designed to make them barrier-free.

Sport Facilities towards High Performance Para Athletes are normally shared with National Athletes. Malaysia are still lacking in terms of sport facilities specifically for high-performance Para athletes. Even though in 2007, there is an effort by having Malaysia Paralympic Sports Excellence Centre (Mpsec) that catered for a few sports specifically on swimming sport facilities, but then again Malaysian Government should consider for advancement of other facilities The disparity between the standards and practice still on going in that built environment regarding the Malaysian Standard 1184:2014. Furthermore, most of Design guidelines catered for specific target group excluding Para athletes. Accessibility of built environment in Malaysia has been an ongoing issue as the implementation and enforcement of Acts and Policies related to creating access for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and elderly are not well integrated and implemented by Local Government in Government buildings, Public spaces and buildings, connectivity of public infrastructures and amenities. Initiatives and strategies such as promoting awareness to the public develop policy and action plan for PwDs, government’s design guidelines and Malaysian Standards of minimum design requirements has been developed since 1990 and 2008, but the impact to the society and the physical environment has not much massive urban development happening in Major cities in Malaysia.
