[R]edition
Technological progress is dramatically changing the publishing industry. Reading books on screens is becoming commonplace and drastically changing the relationship between reader and book. This also goes for the experience of purchasing books, which is happening online. In a physical book shop, you can touch, smell and feel a book, in an online book store it’s a whole different story. The screen between the book and the reader literally reframes the book and reduces it to a collection of immaterial images. The contemporary book is exchangeable, because it is no longer a continuum in space and time, which makes it reproducible. The [R]editions project aims to give second hand books a new life through remediation. The books are cut down to the screen resolutions, which results in an interesting cropping of the content, which can be considered a new creative work in and of itself. This new appropriated version is scanned and published where it lives on and can be downloaded by anyone.
