Greetings to all Community Leader, I am writing to you on behalf of the Metro East Every Survivor Counts (Metro ESC) Board. We would like to bring your attention to an emergent issue regarding services for our sexual assault population. Due to funding restraints, the continuation of services for the area is in jeopardy. It is unsure if these survivors will have advocacy and counseling services available to them. This will impact not only the survivor but the community at large.

Sexual assault does not occur in a vacuum. The effects ripple throughout the community in many ways. It impacts society through an increase in the burden on health care services, illicit drug and alcohol use, and the use of the judicial system. Further, sexual assault has a negative impact on the economy through a loss of productivity and lower educational achievements of the survivor. Studies have shown that the presence of an advocate can help the survivor mitigate trauma and experience less psychological and physical disparities.

We are asking for your help with this critical situation. First, while we are working to secure grants, we need operating costs to continue with services. We would be grateful for any support you are able to give at this time. Second, please write your representatives and Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) to express the dire need for services for the Metro East and your support of our efforts to maintain sexual assault services in this area.
