Name the best thing about the country you live in: “It’s a safe country and you never have any worries. I can leave my bike unlocked in the city for a week and it will still be there when I return.” How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? “For 7 years, and my motivation & inspiration have been top pro riders that have taught me how to train, and how to live the BMX life.” Favorite track in your country? What makes it so good? “Sandnes BMX track in Sandnes. It a big & fast track,wide open & the fastest rider wins the races. Having big jumps, good turns and the club works hard to take care of their pro riders.” What is your ranking in your country right now? Any impressive past titles? “I don’t have any ranking in Norway right now, since I have been on the UCI high level training camp thru the whole season. But normally I should be top podium together with the rest of the Norwegian Redline team.” What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? “To have a perfect form, to make a dream come true by competing with the worlds fastest riders and to have fun!” What other things are you into? “Everything I do drags me into BMX, I love everything with it. I’ll try to spend some time with my girlfriend, but it’s hard when people call you and need help about BMX stuff.” Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: “My Flight Pro, my energy drinks to get a little extra boost in the mains, & of course my i-pod, to shut out the incoming talk at BMX races.” What has BMX racing taught you about life? “I can if I want, & if I want I can! Work for your goal and you can do what ever you want in your life.”

Name the best thing about the country you live in: “We like the space we have in Australia and the countryside; it’s like no where else in the world. The Aussie climate and easy-going approach to life.” How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? “We have been racing eight years. BMX keeps us all interested because we like the feeling you get from winning a really hard race and doing the best you can. The way every track is different has its own separate challenges is good. We also like traveling and racing in different parts of the World, against all different people.” Favorite track in your country? What makes it so good? “Hills in Perth is a great track because it is really fun to ride and it flows so nicely. And Lake Macquarie near Sydney is right as well, because its technical and smooth.” What is your ranking in your country right now? Any impressive past titles? Ziggy :“Ranked 2nd in Australia in both Junior Elite Women 20 inch and Cruiser. Also a 3-time Australian & Victorian Champion. In World rankings, I’ve been No.4 twice, No.6 and No.7. I represented Australia as part of the high performance tem for the 2007 UCI world titles.” Josh: “Ranked 2nd in Australia 16 boys 20inch and the current 15-16 cruiser champion. He has been Aussie champion 3 times. World rankings, 3-time World UCI Champ in age. Been a member of the national talent ID squad for the past two years.” Damien: “Currently 4th in Australia 40-44 cruiser and last year was Australian champion. Have two UCI world rankings a 5th and an 7th. Have been the Victorian champion and last year raced A-pro cruiser at the Vic State titles, where he finished 5th (not bad for an old fart).”

How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? “I have been racing since 2000. Why? Because It gets the blood pumping and I love the good competition.” Favorite track in your country? What makes it so good? “I had a chance to stop at the NBL Grands track with Jason Carnes, and that track is soooooooo fast and smooth. So Louisville, Kentucky would be one of the best I’ve been to. And of course, my local track is DeSoto BMX in Texas. It’s also one of the best BMX tracks in the U.S.” What is your ranking in your country right now? Any impressive past titles? “I am currently National Age Group No.1 in the ABA, and Amateur No.2. I just won the USA Cycling National Champs and UCI World Champs in 16 Boys. Hopefully I can add a National No.1 ABA title by the end of the year.” What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? “Watching it on TV, and begin my training for 2012.” What other things are you into? “BMX takes up most of my time, so I don’t do much of anything else outside of BMX. Being the People’s Champ is not easy.” Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: “My bike, my game face and my ponies.” What has BMX racing taught you about life? “To always have fun and love what you do.” 4

What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? Ziggy: “I intend to have qualified for the Australian team and represent Australia at the Olympics, and will be having a go for a medal.” Josh & Damien: “We hope to be watching and cheering Zig on from the sidelines.” What other things are you into? Ziggy: “I am pretty busy with school, because I am currently finishing year 12. I have raced a few road races and I like that--I won the Victorian Highschool championships for 17-18 girls last year. I also enjoy surfing and skiing, dirtbike riding, and I’m starting to ride some dirt jumps on my BMX. Josh: “I really enjoy surfing, dirt bikes and snowboarding. I love doing dirt jumps, I also like listening to music and I play a little guitar. I also like doing a little road racing, like Zig, and I am the current Victoria school champ.” Damien: “I’m a music teacher and our school has a music group that does a lot of performances and touring. I started BMX after the kids but my passion has always been motorbikes. I own two old Ducati’s. I also love to surf, as I grew up on the beach.” Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: Ziggy: “It changes over the years but for the last year it has been a good luck maori jade stone necklace that my brother gave me with a ribbon for jasha and a necklace with my star sign (a bull for taurus, and strengh) from Joe. These are more just good luck charms than superstitious beliefs. I can win without them.” Josh: “ I always have a lucky pair of socks. Generally when I travel, I’ve got to take my i-pod.” Damien: “ The main thing I take is my body armor as I like jumping -but I still have have a bit to learn. The other two things I always take to the track would be Ziggy and Josh.” What has BMX racing taught you about life? Callen’s: “Hard work pays off. This we can see from our training…” Ziggy: “…and to always believe in yourself.”

Bubba Harris USA Name the best thing about the country you live in: “Having the ability to be able to do what you love and make a living doing it. I live to ride my bike and and I love to do it; and you couldn’t do what I do in any other place than the good ol’ U.S. of A.” How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? “I am 22 and I started racing when I was seven years old. Racing to me is the funnest thing I have ever had the chance to do. Since I was a kid I have loved nothing more than to just go out and ride, whether it be down the street, at the trails, or the track, me and my bike just get along.” Favorite track in your country? What makes it so good? “Estrella Mountain BMX in my hometown of Goodyear, Arizona. It has a great pro section, a techy rhythm, and a power first straight. It makes for a great training track, and I have my own set of keys to ride it anytime.” What is your ranking in your country right now? Any impressive past titles? “3-consecutive ABA No.1 Pro (2004, 2005,

2006) and former UCi World Champ (2005).” What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? “I am pretty sure I will be on the Olympic track in China!! And I plan on shredding!” What other things are you into? “I am really into my dogs; my four Akitas! I also love reading and I’m not afraid of video games. I also spend a lot of time with my friends and family. Training is a part of my everyday life and all my hobbies are scheduled around it.” Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: “ A good book, i-Phone and my Mom’s necklace.” What has BMX racing taught you about life? “ Well, my BMX career is a little different than many of the other guys. I have been able to grow up and travel the country doing Race Clinics, meeting thousands of people and seeing more places than many people twice my age have ever been able to experience. This has helped me learn how to mesh with people. I’d say that BMX has taught me my social skills. These skills will be with me for the rest of my life and will help me be successful in anything I choose to do. BMX has taught me that whether you think you can or if you think can’t in life, you are right. SO ALWAYS THINK YOU CAN!” 5

Everything is so much different in Japan compared to other countries and the food being the biggest difference. Everyone says it looks horrible but tastes great.” How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? “I have been racing for twelve years now and can never see myself quiting. It is a great oppurtunity to travel around the world and have great friends in every country. I will be at the UCI World Championships in 2060, racing Elite Men when I am 70 years old …ha ha.” Favorite track in your country? What makes it so good? “Joetsu. They have really wide straights and it is the only track in Japan with a pro section.” What is your ranking in your country right now? Any impressive past titles? “I have been 2-time UCI World Champ, 9-times Japan National Champ, and 1-time Japan 4X Champ.” What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? “I’ll be in China watching BMX in the Olympics, since I will not be old enough to compete. I cant wait! It will be great for our sport.” What other things are you into? “BMX is my life. I put all of my time and effort into school and BMX.” Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: “My Redline, face wash, and some Axe body spray -BoomChickaWahWah.” What has BMX racing taught you about life? “It has taught me a lot, especially English …haha. I have made a lot of friends and learned a lot about different cultures from traveling around the world and staying with friends for long periods of time. NETHERLANDS Name the best thing about the country you live in: Good national team in BMX. How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? I started racing in 1992 when i was still 3 years old, so I am racing now after 16 years. I guess what has kept me in racing is my good results in the Challenge classes; I’ve won a few World titles and followed my dream. Favorite Track in your country? What makes it so good? Valkenswaard is a good track – it was home of the 2004 World Champs. What is your ranking in your Country right now? I have won the National Championships two years in a row - 2006 & 2007. What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? Be in China and win a medal. What other things are you into, outside of BMX? I like to update my website [martijnscherpen.com] and hang out with friends but most of the time I am in with BMX. Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: Bike, helmet & phone. What has BMX racing taught you about life? Everything I know - since I growed up in BMX.

Name the best thing about the Country you live in: There are too many good things to choose just one. I love America! It’s the land of the free and home of the brave... and it’s nice that people can understand what I’m saying here. How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? I started in the summer of ‘86. I was hooked fom the first time I rolled off the gate. I like riding my bike today as much as I did back then. After years of riding for fun, it actually evolved into a career. Besides, I’m not good at anything else! Favorite Track in your country? What makes it so good? It’s a toss-up between the NBL Las Vegas and Boulder, NV tracks. They’re both super smooth with asphalt corners and have a nice mix of sprinting, rhythm sections, and jumps. What is your ranking in your Country right now? Current ranking...ABA Vet Pro #1. Have been since 2002. In, I was the 2006 UCI Challenge World Champion for both 30 and over men / 35-39 Cruiser, and in 2007 I repeated it in Cruiser. What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? Hopefully I’ll still be opening gifts from my August 4th birthday and watching my teammate Bubba Harris win a shiny gold medal. What other things are you into (outside of BMX)? I enjoy all types of cycling and spend a lot of time on my Redline road and mountain bikes. I like to hang out down at the local swim spots and sunbake my way to a nice golden-brown color. Then I head out and enjoy all the restaurants and music venues that make Austin, Texas a great place to live! Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: MP3 player, a fresh pack of razors and sunblock for my head. What has BMX racing taught you about life? I’ve learned that you get out what you put in! Appreciate every day, and try to pack as many crazy experiences as I can into this short life.

Name the best thing about the country you live in: The weather is always nice in Southern California. I used to live in the Netherlands where the weather can be very dreadful. Living in California is a huge upgrade. How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? I have been racing for 25 years now. I love going fast and jump over big jumps. I like the competition. It’s you against everybody else and you never really know who will win. Favorite track in your country? What makes it so good? I always loved the track in Doetichem. They had to move a couple of years ago. The track was completely made out of asphalt and it was super fast. It was an awesome track … as long as you didn’t crash on it. What is your ranking in your country right now? Any impressive past titles? I finished first this year in UCi World points. I won the World title in ’93 and ’99. I have two European titles; in ’99 and ’00. Finished first on the UCI World ranking 3 times. I Have four World Cup titles and five Dutch National titles. What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? Winning the gold medal. What other things are you into? Playing video games and hanging out on the couch watching TV.w Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: Laptop, PSP and noise canceling headphones. What has BMX racing taught you about life? That life can be very hard sometimes. I also learned if you want to get something done you have to do it yourself. I learned more about real life thru BMX than I did in school, but of course you still need school for the foundation.

Shanaze Reade U.K. Name the best thing about the country you live in: “Well I live in England. The place kinda sucks, NO, I’m only kidding. How long have you been racing, and what has kept you racing all these years? “I have been racing now since 1999. BMX is like a drug – it’s so addictive. I like everything about traveling the world and meeting new people from other countries. I love the buzz I get when I jump something big at the track & that crazy feeling you get when you have just won something big - like say, the World Champs.” Favorite track in your country? What makes it so good? “My favorite track is called Chesterfield, which is in the midlands area of England. The track is amazing its down hill and so fast with really fun jumps. The track attracts a lot of local skilled riders, so it’s always good to hit up that place.” What is your ranking in your country right now? Any impressive past titles? “In 2007, I started the season racing in the ELITE MEN category. Of the races I did enter, I made all the mains & placed top 6 … against the guys. I am current World

Champion for Elite Women, and have won 4 BMX World titles in all. I have 8 European titles & I am a World record holder & World Champion on the velodrome. And in 2006, I became UK National Champion in the 19 male (A-pro).” What are your plans for August 20 & 21, 2008? “I hope I’ll be racing that lil’ race held in China – haha. I hope to bring home Great Britain a medal.” What other things are you into? “Hmm … BMX takes up mostly all my time right now. But I do like to do what a normal teenage girl my age does. I like to go out to the cinema, have a drink from time to time & chill with friends, and go shopping. I think it’s important that you don’t miss out on your youth when you do sports, so I try & still do everything teenagers do, but in moderation.” Name three must-have things when you travel to a BMX race: “My i-pod for sure ! My laptop to check emails and chill on msn, and my lucky charm that my nan gave to me.” What has BMX racing taught you about life? “I definitely have become a lot more independent traveling without my parents to races. It’s learnt me a lot. I am a lot more confident doing all the media side of the sport. And I’ve learnt so much about how the body works, from my trainers.”

Def Paul WA, USA Describe the city/state where you live: “I’m originally from Las Vegas NV, but I moved up to Seattle about 5 years ago. It’s a great area out here. We have the best weather and also the worst weather. In the summer and fall time you couldn’t ask for anything better. It’s amazing during the summer! Everyone is out having a good time. It rains quite a bit during the winter but we get by, sometimes riding parking garages. There are endless spots and great people to ride with. Most of the riders out here have there own style and there are a lot of good riders out here and to ride with.”

Favorite spot to ride, and why: “I like any spots that are fun . I love to ride street, not just rails. I mostly ride places to film some lines -- banks or ledges and gaps. But when I ride park, I ride Everett skate park. When everyone meets up we have a killer session until the night falls. It’s the only place we can ride around in our area. Most of the parks that are real good don’t allow bikes …or they just plain suck. It would be nice to have a bike-only skatepark in our state.” What has kept you into BMX? “Ever since I got on a bike it has taken me farther than I ever thought it would.
