Defining the project 1.1 Investigate sources of funding and obtain relevant information There are websites available that detail government and other organisations grants. Information is also available through Red Tape Busters, Professional grant writers.

1.2 Identify the needs of the community It is not just the organisation applying for the grant that will be impacted by the grant funds. Any project undertaken will affect the broader community. It is essential to investigate this broader impact to include in a grant application.

1.3 Identify the project's external and internal resource requirements

Time will need to be invested into sourcing and highlighting all external and internal resources and their requirements. Will trades need to be brought in to complete work? What can be achieved at the organisations level? What resources will everyone need?

1.4 Select strategies to meet needs The problem needing to be solved needs to be identified and a detailed strategic plan prepared so it can be included in the grant application.

1.5 Formulate project goals Clear and concise project goals will avoid all confusion about the project when applying to the funding body.

1.6 Identify and consult external and internal stakeholders Having input from all internal and external stakeholders included in the grant writing process helps define the project for the funding body and cast a seriousness around the application.

1.7 Seek feedback Seek feedback from the stakeholders on project goals and make changes to the project plan where required.

Plan the project 2.1 Develop and schedule project activities A detailed timeline of the project and Gantt chart will allow all stakeholders to be aware of all aspects of the project.

2.2 Assign personnel and material resources to project activities The right person for the right job and being aware of all required resources will assist putting forward a strong grant application.
