From a young age, James has always known that the life of an employee is not for him. As such, the moment he completed his National Service (NS) in 2000, he took the risk and ploughed in his life savings to become a co-owner of a café. Business was brisk, but the advent of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) took out his as well as many other businesses. Down and out, James tried his hand at being employed for a while. It was hardly a pleasant ride, so when he stumbled upon real estate, he immediately took up the offer, promising himself that he would – once again – create his own path through life.

If life is about beating the odds, Connie’s story will be a good one to tell in the motivation of yourself and others. Coming over to Singapore with only the equivalent of ‘N’ levels – a Form 3 certificate in Malaysian terms – Connie hardly knew that she was going to be a force to be reckoned with in the property arena. Working as a consultant in the beauty industry till 2009, Connie would soon find herself in a position where she would have to decide whether she wanted to enter the real estate industry. By then, James – her husband – had already been in the industry for two years, and it felt right that she should join her spouse in this promising field.

Totally new and inexperienced, James found it hard to understand the multiple and varying technicalities of real estate. It did not help that he did not have a good manager, who hardly guided or taught anything. Ever the self-reliant fighter he had always been, James took it upon himself to master the ropes so that he could propel himself forward in his career, as well as to be of better service to his clients. Turning to those who had been in the industry longer, James sought to seek out the answers to those questions that he was unable to answer. The experience was a mix of the good and the bad. Some of the industry’s old-timers bothered to help them, while others simply ignored him. Regardless of the response these people gave him, the motivated man persisted in what he was supposed to do. Needless to say, his resilience and determination paid off, with James becoming the professional and knowledgeable Real Estate Salesperson he is destined to be.

Having extensive customer service exposure in her previous trade, Connie would soon find her new career a natural extension of her previous one. Possessing the personal touch, Connie would realise that it was about the people and not the products she was selling. Adopting a gradual transition into the industry, Connie started off by helping James to follow up with his clients. She soon gained enough confidence to facilitate real estate transactions on her own, forming a good tagteam with James. It
