Energy Efficiency Expo

Welcome from Sustainability Victoria Sustainability Victoria is proud to support this year’s Energy Efficiency Expo. Sustainability Victoria is helping to shape the state of the future and support businesses, government, schools and communities to transition to clean energy. Our role is to empower Victorians to manage their energy use so that they can save money and reduce their impact on the environment. Under the Climate Change Act (2017) the Victorian Government has committed to renewable energy targets of 25% by 2020 and 40% by 2025. We were the first state government in Australia to legislate net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and Sustainability Victoria plays a key role in facilitating this change. We’ve achieved great success with many of our programs, which have saved millions of dollars and thousands of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. This year 300 businesses in our Boosting Business Productivity program – which supports businesses to be more energy efficient – collectively saved 16,354 tonnes of greenhouse gases, and $4.4 million. In our schools, our ResourceSmart Schools program has saved $26 million through energy, waste and water efficiency and avoiding over 75,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases. Our Healthy Homes and Latrobe Valley Energy Upgrade Programs support economically disadvantaged households to improve their well-being by making energy efficient upgrades to their homes. The programs are expected to potentially save 800,000 kWh of electricity annually and collectively save the households $320,000 on their annual energy bills. Our First Rate 5 program certified nearly 96,000 with 6-star energy efficiency ratings in new and renovated homes. Over the life of these homes, households will save more than $42 million on their energy bills and reduce residential greenhouse gas emissions by 62,000 tonnes. And we recently formed exciting partnerships with Metricon, Stockland and SDJ, who will develop energy-efficient, sustainable and affordable homes in Melbourne’s high-growth suburbs. Energy efficiency is an important part of many of our programs. If you would like to learn more about reducing energy use in your business, please visit our stand. I hope you enjoy the event. We look forward to working together to create a clean energy future for Victoria.
