12.30pm – 1.30pm Solid Waste Management Best Practices Mark Welch, Global Waste Landfill Products & Application Specialist, Caterpillar Inc. – Aurora, Illinois, USA

The most valuable commodity in a landfill is airspace. Once your airspace is gone, so is your business. Ideally you should utilize every available cubic meter. You can do that through compaction or packing more waste in less space.

1.30pm – 2.30pm Maximising your airspace Presenters: Dieter von Mollendorf, Position Partners Steve Brooks, Tarpomatic Australia Daniel Kastowsky, TANA This session will examine three main airspace management techniques – compaction, ADC and volume measurement – and provide practical tips for landfill managers to make the most of their available airspace. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel.

Sustainable Options for Diverting Organic Waste from Landfill

The Panel will outline a number of technologies, including time-honoured composting in various forms, as well as on-site processes such as dehydration. Not all systems being marketed fall into the definition of “organics recovery’ and the Panel will voice some concerns in this respect. Regulatory compliance is an important factor in successful organics treatments and will be touched upon during the Panel’s presentation.

4.00pm – 4.30pm Purpose Driven Businesses John Engelander, CEO, The Planet Earth

Listen as John shares how he created a purpose driven business and a life that weaves these most important pieces together; fuelled by what matters most and a journey of hard knocks.

Waste Evolution is a brand new, interactive feature showcasing new technologies and products set to revolutionise the waste management and resource recovery industry in Australia. This exciting display platform and case study series highlights the latest technologies, products and innovations in an interactive format that will inspire and educate. To complement the exciting product display platform, Waste Evolution also features a program of case studies from around the world. Hear of key learnings globally and find out what’s next for Australia. You can find the Waste Evolution stage at F20, just next to Liebherr Australia.

EcoPrinting Engineers at Deakin’s Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training are demonstrating their prototype ‘EcoPrinting’ technology. This innovative technology breaks down unwanted plastic into granules which are then converted to filament ready for printing on a standard 3D printer. This innovative technology could have wide-reaching implications for developing countries faced with mounting rubbish problems and a lack of access to clean drinking water. With expected uses including aid and disaster scenarios to produce failing water infrastructure parts from waste plastics found in the environment, the prototype unit at Waste Evolution will later be used in a trial in the Solomon Islands. Visit Deakin’s Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training at stand H20, next to Liebherr Australia.

WasteMaster to reduce organic waste by 80% Whilst recognising that the food waste problem needs to be addressed at the source through awareness and training prior to becoming waste, GreenEco Technologies has spent the last two years developing a solution for converting waste food remains that minimises the burden on both businesses and the environment. Adopting the principles of the circular economy, GreenEco Technologies uses cutting edge technology to convert and re-purpose food waste, extracting a material with the maximum calorific value for alternative beneficial use, without the use of additives, bacteria or water. Come and see the WasteMaster on display at stand D26, and hear Director Jason Hoen at the Waste Evolution stage at 1:30pm on Tuesday 11 October.

SMARTER BINS OUR GARBAGE BINS ARE GETTING SMARTER

CLEANCUBE SMART CITY SOLUTIONS STAND E18 TOM ORWAK (TELFORD SMITH) STAND B20

“These sensors send an alert back to base when a bin hits 70 per cent capacity so it can be emptied within the hour.”

Melbourne’s street bins collect 4800 tonnes of waste every year and keeping hem below capacity at all times could be a challenge, especially during events and busier times of the year. The installation of smart compaction bins and smart sensor technology will help significantly reduce the overflow of waste for Melbourne’s street bins. “Overflowing bins are a terrible look for our city. Our street bins are emptied daily but if a bin is full by 8.30am, it’s impossible for us to know about it,” Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said. Chair of the City of Melbourne’s Environment Portfolio, Cr Arron Wood said “We’re constantly looking for innovative ways to better manage waste, and this is one example where we’re ahead of the game.” If you’re interested in checking out smart bin and sensor technology, you can see Big Belly, Tom, Cleancube, Yindi and more on the expo floor.

We are the leading hazardous waste container recycler. We recycle chemical containers such as IBC (Intermediate Bulk Containers), chemical drums and metal containers. These are collected and stored in a safe place to prevent contamination of the earth and soil. The containers are sent for decontamination and the decontaminated water is then disposed appropriately without causing any damage or harm to the environment. The clean IBC’s are sent to be reused for domestic and industrial usage. We have a well-established collection facility and equipment such as trailers, fork lifts, trolleys and trucks to shift the materials to the recycling yard.

Tel: 03 8397 5100 melissa.mccoll@cleanaway.com.au www.cleanaway.com.au

Bioelektra created a waste treatment technology that unveils resource potential in waste. It allows for simple methods of waste collection and does not require complicated segregation-atsource. The technology respects local community by making waste odourless. It is also the most financially viable waste treatment technology, as municipal solid waste is sterilised and turned into resources. It creates new opportunities for local economies by delivering streams of recycled resources to the market by achieving a diversion rate of over 96% from landfill.

We believe that environmental sustainability and business have a future together. Whether it’s recycling, repurposing, reusing, treating or shredding –Our business practices will ensure your business can look after the planet without it costing the earth. Cleanaway has been helping Australia reduce, reuse, recycle and safely dispose of waste for over 50 years. Making a difference in the community is one thing, translating that to an industry scale requires the commitment of a huge team of specialists and a fleet of purpose-built vehicles and equipment.

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured, Kiel Industries will have on display their range of self- composting toilets made from recycled plastic. The Rota-Loos have been very popular for many years and are widely used throughout Australia and the Asia pacific region. Also on display are their recycling stations for the collection of waste and recyclables. The stations are designed to incorporate 240 litre wheelie bins, for standard collection practices. They have some outstanding features which put them way out in front of other similar units, including sensor display for efficient emptying practices.

Riversafe Gross Pollutant Trapa combined litter bin and gross pollutant trap (GPT) has been developed that allows automated emptying by a standard garbage truck for around $1 per empty. The Riversafe GPT looks just like other high quality stainless steel bins used in activity centres, but is designed for both standard litter disposal and for the capture of gross pollutants in a basket located in a stormwater pit directly below the bin. Riversafe is designed for automatic emptying by side arm garbage trucks that are used for domestic waste collection. The new GPT is an excellent solution for low cost litter and stormwater pollutant control at litter hotspots such as activity centres, bus stops and at sporting facilities.
