Welcome

Welcome to National Manufacturing Week 2018 Where innovation meets opportunity

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Sydney 2018 edition of National Manufacturing Week – Australia’s most important and established manufacturing industry event, focused on the evolution of the sector through technology, innovation and education. We are very pleased to once again co-locate with Safety First Conference & Expo, Australia’s one-stop manufacturing safety event, and we warmly welcome back Inside 3D Printing Conference & Expo, the Sydney edition of the world’s largest 3D printing event. The three events combined truly showcase the latest in technology, solutions and innovations for the manufacturing industry. In addition to the 200+ exhibitors on display this year, you will benefit from a highly informative seminar series across three free-to-attend conference theatres, covering the Advanced Manufacturing Industry 4.0 revolution, business improvement sessions and the latest in safety best practices for the manufacturing sector. On behalf of the organisers, I would like to thank all of our sponsors, partners and local and international exhibitors for supporting National Manufacturing Week 2018. In particular I would like to thank the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre and Weld Australia for their valuable and long-term support for National Manufacturing Week. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any member of the organising team if we can assist you during your visit. I wish you a beneficial and productive experience at National Manufacturing Week 2018. Robby Clark Exhibition Director Reed Exhibitions

Welcome

Welcome to National Manufacturing Week 2018 Where innovation meets opportunity It is my great pleasure to welcome you to National Manufacturing Week 2018. The theme this year is Where Innovation Meets Opportunity, and over the next three days you will get to see and hear the evidence of innovation and opportunity from within our thriving manufacturing industry. Our nation’s top body on innovation, Innovation and Science Australia, deliberately announced its Australia 2030 strategy nowhere else but at a manufacturing site not far from this venue. Surely this sends the right signal of Australia being home to hundreds of thousands of robust and successful manufacturers, and that manufacturing is a strong pillar in our nation’s ongoing prosperity. We have many reasons to celebrate at this year’s event. At the time of going to press, Australian manufacturing is enjoying 18 months’ consecutive positive sentiment – the longest streak since 2002, and just think how our industry has transformed during these past two years. Even more impressive, our industry employs over 10 per cent of the country’s workforce. Yes, 1 in 10 employees works in manufacturing! When looking at opportunity, we are seeing more Australian manufacturers taking advantage of technology through Industry 4.0 and digitalisation of processes. This lifts our global competitiveness and offers new and more high-value jobs. Let us keep in mind: the ‘thing’ in the ‘Internet of Things’ is what gets manufactured. For those who are interested in learning more about this new wave of digital technologies, I invite you to attend the free interactive workshops on offer each morning at the event. Keep an eye out for Futuremap breakfast workshops. I assure you that your investment of time will grant an instant return. Finally, I encourage you to drop by the Australian Government booth. We have brought together experts from across multiple government agencies specifically to help with your enquiries on how to become more competitive. Whether your question is on exporting, financing, R&D support or how to get started, we are on hand to offer advice. In closing, I wish you an exceptionally impactful National Manufacturing Week. Dr Jens Goennemann Managing Director Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre Ltd

HELP TURN THIS...

Over 56 million used tyres are generated in Australia, every single year.*

INTO THIS... Rubber composite pipes.

AND MORE!

Exciting manufacturing opportunities from old tyres. Innovative manufacturers, using recycled-tyre raw material, can gain R&D support that forms part of the effort to manage the millions* of old tyres Australia generates each year.

Through its market development fund, TSA has committed over $3 million to developing new uses for an abundant and underutilised recycled resource.

Tyre Stewardship Australia is supporting considerable research and development of new uses for tyre-derived material.

TSA continues to look for opportunities to invest in job-creating innovations incorporating tyre-derived product.

Current applications and innovations include:

Session: Extrusion Blow Moulded Plastic Bottles

The seminar program is as follows: 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm Registration and Refreshments 6:00 pm – 6:05 pm Welcome

How to get on the front foot and reduce the weight of existing bottles before you’re forced to?

When: Located at:

Thursday 10th May 2018 Hub Room, Entrance Hall, Sydney Show Ground

Organized by The Society of Plastics Engineers

Han Michel, NSW Representative SPE: A-NZ Section

6:05 pm – 6:35 pm What is going on in the market for plastic bottles users and why is this important Derek Joy, Packaging Development Manager, Green’s General Foods, Glendenning

6:35 pm – 7:05 pm Tips from an expert on “How to” optimize your EBM process and equipment Stephen Barter, Principal, Pro-technical, Gymea

7:05 pm – 7.15 pm Improvement in a different way Introduction

In today’s world, the ever-growing pressures on manufacturers to reduce waste in manufacturing is more than just financial, community and government pressure will eventually dictate you must reduce your environmental impact. Reducing the weight of plastic bottles reduces your environmental impact throughout the supply chain and is the simplest action you can take without spending huge amounts of money on capital, and it will also reduce your manufacturing costs. In this seminar, we will discuss how you can reduce the weight of existing products while maintaining and even improving functional performance, but more importantly how to sustain and grow this mindset through your teams so the process doesn’t stop, it becomes a way of operating.

Simon Murray, Big Change Agency, Lead engineer, Sydney

7:15 pm – 7:50 pm Panel on Blow Moulding and potential improvements – Q&A Stephen Barter, Derek Joy, Simon Murray headed by Han Michel

7.50 pm – 8:00 pm Closing Remarks Han Michel, Representative for NSW, SPE: A-NZ Section

At BlastOne, we understand that businesses operate under tremendous pressures in today’s tough economy. There are pressures to contain costs, hit deadlines, and ensure a perfectly finished surface for your project. If your project team slips up in just one area, the whole job could be at risk. BlastOne also understands that surface preparation and blasting is normally not where most of our customers make their profit. However, if surface preparation does not go well, it can have a significantly negative impact on the job’s cost, profitability and the customer’s satisfaction.

Welcome to the Safety First Conference & Expo 2018

Welcome from Jodie Deakes, Acting Executive Director, SafeWork NSW On behalf of SafeWork NSW, I welcome you to the Safety First Conference and Expo. SafeWork NSW is proud to be a gold sponsor for this important 2018 safety event being held in NSW. The manufacturing industry is a priority industry for work health and safety due to the high number and rate of work-related injuries and illnesses. SafeWork NSW are focused on working with industry and worker representatives to improve protection against harm, reduce unnecessary compliance costs and secure safety standards. We know that by working with the manufacturing industry, together we can achieve healthy, safe and productive working lives across the sector. The SafeWork NSW Work, Health and Safety (WHS) Roadmap is aimed at all NSW workplaces to enable the continued decline in work related fatalities and serious injuries and illnesses in NSW. It sets out agreed priorities to keep safety simple while focusing on the important risks that will reduce harm. A ‘Roadmap’ priority deliverable is the Manufacturing Sector WHS Plan, being launched at a key note session on the first day. Please refer to the agenda for the Rsvp guidelines for this special event.

The Manufacturing Sector WHS plan calls out the critical elements at the heart of a health and safety landscape: • Committed leadership • Effective consultation • Good safety practices • Safe design and supply chains • Skilled workers who look out for each other We have been working with businesses across NSW to develop leadership tools including consultation and mentoring programs. The NSW ‘safety starts with you’ campaign aims to influence safety behaviours by showcasing that we all have an important role to play in keeping workers healthy and safe. Sitting alongside the campaign are tools to help employers safeguard their workplaces through the commitment of a safety promise published online, making businesses accountable to their staff, customers, other businesses and the NSW community. With more than a third of Australia’s entire economic output coming from NSW, the work we do to make workplaces safe is very important. If you would like to learn more about what SafeWork NSW is doing, please visit our stand (#1736). I hope you enjoy this event and I look forward to working with you to influence the future of work health and safety. Jodie Deakes Acting Executive Director SafeWork NSW

NSW MANUFACTURING SECTOR WORK HEALTH & SAFETY PLAN 2018-2022 Working together with industry to improve WHS

Injuries and illnesses in the manufacturing sector are too high, and SafeWork NSW is working with industry to change this. Together, we have developed a work health and safety plan for the NSW manufacturing industry that targets real issues faced by manufacturers. This plan, developed with industry for industry, will deliver on our six-year strategy to:

We can only achieve these objectives by continuing to work with you. Visit Safework NSW at exhibit stand 1736 to find out about the plan, and how you can improve safety in your workplace.

• Embed the ‘Health and Safety Landscape’ in NSW workplaces • Prioritise harms, workers and workplaces where the most significant WHS risks exist.
