SYDNEY 2016
WELCOME TO THE SAFETY FIRST CONFERENCE & EXPO Welcome to Safety First, Australia’s one-stop workplace safety event dedicated to the industry. Now in its second year, Safety First is proud to co-locate with National Manufacturing Week and Inside 3D Printing Conference and Expo – an event co-location that encourages open dialogue with like-minded people about integral safety issues. This year, Safety First highlights the latest in safety technology, products and solutions and provides a second-to-none education program designed to educate on safety improvements, standards and compliance. Make sure you take advantage of the free-to-attend conference sessions and hear the latest insights from industry professionals on best practices and new ideas. The conference program also includes a paid premium forum in the Main Theatre, covering leadership traits and skills for safety professionals and how neuroscience studies appear to explain how safety incidents can occur. Tickets are available at the registration desk at the entrance to the event. On behalf of Reed Exhibitions, I would like to thank all of our exhibitors, sponsors, partners and local and international supporters for attending Safety First. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any member of the organising team if we can assist you. I wish you a beneficial and productive experience at Safety First. Kind regards,
Robby Clark Exhibition Director Reed Exhibitions

Premium Forums Presented by industry leaders, the Premium Forum sign up sessions will equip you with everything you need to protect your business and staff from safety risks. PREMIUM FORUM A
What Safety can Learn from Neuroscience DAY 1 Wednesday 11 May 2016 | 2:30pm-5:00pm Presented by: Cristian Sylvestre, MD, Safe Start Location: Safety & Risk Solutions Theatre Cost: $180 Most of us have worked out that our own actions have a lot to do with our incidents. However, we have a tendency to address the issue assuming that our actions are always “conscious”. That is, if we got hurt, then we must have made:• a “bad” decision, • an “incorrect” judgement, or, • a “wrong” choice When people get hurt it is relatively easy to look back with perfect hindsight and work out that a safer conscious decision could have prevented the incident. It is because these “decisions” appear so easy to reverse in hindsight that incidents are thought of almost exclusively as being a result of “conscious” decisions. However, it is important to recognise that just because it would have been possible to make a safer conscious decision, it does not mean that a “bad” conscious decision was the cause of the incident. What happens “in the moment” is sometimes very different to what we think happened. Here’s an everyday example. People are consciously aware that texting while driving is dangerous. They also know that it is illegal. So why do so many people still do it? This workshop explores the latest neuro-scientific discoveries of the subconscious mind and how they can apply to our understanding and improvement of personal safety.
PREMIUM FORUM B
The SAFE T path to Leadership and Career progression DAY 3 Friday 13 May 2016 | 10:15am-12:45pm Presented by: Dr Karen Whittingham, Director, Impact Psychology Location: Safety & Risk Solutions Theatre Cost: $180 This workshop considers SAFE T (Skills, Attitude, Foresight, Experience, Trust). Skills, Attitude, Foresight and Experience, and Trust are all needed to develop your career and set you on a path to great leadership. In this interactive workshop Dr Karen Whittingham, a leadership development specialist and organisational psychologist will uncover the hidden meaning in leadership capability frameworks and leadership competency standards. She will help you work through the skills you have, and explain how to frame them in a way that others can understand. By the end of this workshop you will recognise better the key traits, behaviours and influence you need (and your bosses are looking for) to be successful leaders and you will have a plan to start working on that journey today. Part 1 of this workshop considers the key traits that make great safety leaders, and how to use and develop your skills in this area to influence others, inspire direction and gain trust. Part 2 considers the question of why it is sometimes hard for safety leaders to be considered for promotion or general leadership roles. We will look at what might be holding you back, whether you’re perceived as being too specialised and how transferable skills can help turn that around.
