WELCOM E TO WASTE EX P O AUSTRALIA 2018 On behalf of Reed Exhibitions, it’s my pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Waste Expo Australia – the most comprehensive waste management and resource recovery event in Australia. This year’s event is bigger than ever, with over 90 exhibitors showcasing their latest technology and innovations; and three free-to-attend conference programs, featuring five industry streams and hosting over 60 expert speakers. The wide range of high quality content is tailored to deliver value to you. During the course of the year, the Waste Expo Australia team have been engaging with industry stakeholders to ensure that we’re delivering the content that is important to you. You will notice that the conference programs have been split into five separate streams covering resource recovery, waste to energy, landfill & transfer stations, collections and wastewater. Our customer insights have shown the need for Ministerial presence and I am very excited to welcome to Waste Expo Australia for the very first time The Hon. Josh Frydenberg, Federal Minister for the Environment and Energy and The Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio, Victorian Government Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change. This is a very important time for the waste management and resource recovery sector and Victoria, home of Waste Expo Australia, is leading the way. Minister D’Ambrosio recently announced a $37 million package that will increase the quality of recycled materials and develop new markets for them. This follows the temporary relief package announced earlier in the year for councils and industry to support the ongoing kerbside collection of household recyclable waste, following China’s decision to restrict the import of recyclable materials. The Victorian government has invested record

funding of more than $100 million over the last four years to improve the waste and resource recovery system. 2018 also sees the launch of the Wastewater Summit, presented due to demand from previous attendees who would like to see more content in the wastewater space. The theme for Wastewater Summit 2018 is “Confronting the challenges and opportunities in wastewater treatment through technology, strategy and compliance”. The high quality program will feature 21 speakers from organisations such as ARENA, Unity Water, Melbourne Water, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Australian Pork Ltd, Queensland Urban Utilities, West Water, EPA, Sustainability Victoria and many more. I would like to thank our strategic partner, the Victorian Waste Management Association (VWMA), for their support and valuable input into Waste Expo Australia 2018. Special thanks also to our local and international exhibitors, speakers, partners and sponsors, whose contribution is fundamental to the experience and value that we’re able to deliver to our attendees. I wish all visitors and exhibitors a successful and rewarding time at Waste Expo Australia and trust that you will meet many clients and colleagues, old and new, and that your participation will bring great value to your business.

Cory McCarrick Exhibition Manager

WA STE E XP O AUSTRA L I A

M ESSAG E F RO M THE LORD M AYO R OF M ELBOURNE Sustainability underpins everything we do at the City of Melbourne. For two days in October, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre will be home to the most significant showcase of waste, recycling, renewable energy and energy efficiency technology in Australia. Melbourne shares the waste challenges faced by many major cities but the difference is we are willing to step up and take action when other are not. We want to be a leader in this. Perhaps now more than ever waste management is in the public eye. It is heartening to see that it is a passion shared by so many people in our city. Individual citizen action is important but only part of the bigger picture. As a society we need to work towards systemic change. City of Melbourne’s goal for 2030 is to introduce cost-effective, environmentally-responsible waste and resource recovery systems. Advancing our knowledge of waste management will have significant benefits for our city and our nation well into the future. In our bid to become a leader in sustainability, City of Melbourne is proud to again support Waste Expo Australia.
