Before a record-breaking audience of 4,187 high-profile delegates from around the world, the ADSW Opening Ceremony reflects its status as a landmark event in global sustainability. Following the ceremony, Abu Dhabi Global Action Day, which is a platform for policy-makers and the business community to align on taking action to advance the global sustainability agenda has aimed to turn the ambitious goals of COP 21, the Paris Climate Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into innovative, yet practical policy, investment and technology solutions and partnerships.

Saudi Arabia announced plans for 10GW of renewable energy by 2023, with 3.45GW of capacity commissioned by 2020. The World Future Energy Summit (WFES), saw strong interest in Saudi business opportunities when the event opened as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on January 16, 2017. While focusing on investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia. Over 78 meetings were arranged between Saudi delegations and project developers and investors. Saudi business delegations were given guided tours through the exhibitions to facilitate the sourcing of technologies and solutions.
High level delegation headed by H.E. Khaled Al Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia and chairman of Saudi Aramco attended the event. An official KSA pavilion was organised by Saudi Aramco 100+ investors and developers from 5 countries attended the “Saudi Arabia Closed Door Investment Meeting”. 9.5GW development plans were announced. 21 exhibitors from Saudi Arabia. 2,000+ meetings were generated by 700 Saudi industry buyers and professionals. 1,100 sqm of exhibition space. 405 CEOs from Saudi Arabia attended the World Future Energy Summit. 14 workshops and business roundtables were organised.

High level delegation headed by H.E. Piyush Goyal, Minister of New & Renewable Energy attended WFES. Investment roundtables were organized between the Indian Government and potential investors for India's 175GW renewable investment projects by 2022. 118 C-suite attendees from India 150 sqm pavilion 11 companies exhibiting from India International Solar Alliance global meeting held during WFES 10 conference sessions and seminars were organised with focus on investment opportunities in the Indian renewable energy market
India's target is to have an installed capacity of 100GW of solar energy, 60GW of wind, plus 15GW from other renewables by 2022. India’s clean energy plans make it one of the world’s most exciting markets for developers. India is already one of the world’s leading users of renewable energy, and has plans to significantly increase its capacity over the coming six years. Delegates at the World Future Energy Summit conference had access to the business opportunities and insights related to this rapidly growing market.
