Grußwort Greetings

Director General European Aluminium Liebe Besucherinnen und Besucher, liebe Ausstellerinnen und Aussteller,

wenngleich ich erst seit Februar Director General bei European Aluminium bin, so bin ich mir dennoch bewusst, was für eine wichtige Plattform die ALUMINIUM für unsere Branche ist. Seit Monaten habe ich diesen Termin in meinem Kalender markiert und ich freue mich auf drei Tage inspirierenden Austauschs zu den Chancen, welche die grüne Energiewende für unser Metall in Europa und auf der ganzen Welt schaffen wird. Aluminium ist aus unserer Gesellschaft nicht wegzudenken: Elektroautos, Stromkabel, Batterien bis hin zu Wind- und Solarenergie – sie alle bauen auf Aluminium!

Und dennoch: Es wäre leichtsinnig und unverantwortlich, die Herausforderungen zu ignorieren, mit denen wir im Hier und Jetzt konfrontiert sind. Zwischen den immer deutlicher spürbaren Auswirkungen des Klimawandels, ernsthaften Bedenken hinsichtlich der Energiepreise und Versorgungssicherheit, höchst unsicheren Aussichten für die Weltwirtschaft und einem geopolitischen Kontext, bei dem ich oft bereue, die Zeitung aufgeschlagen zu haben, mangelt es uns nicht an Grund zur Sorge. Die gute Nachricht ist, dass wir in den letzten Jahren bereits bewiesen haben, wie widerstandsfähig unsere Beschäftigten, Unternehmen und Kunden sind. Noch grundlegender ist die Erkenntnis, dass der Bedarf an Aluminium in Europa und weltweit in den kommenden Jahren und Jahrzehnten weiter steigen wird. Dies gibt uns sowohl die Möglichkeit, als auch die Verantwortung, den Übergang zu einer kohlenstoffarmen Kreislaufwirtschaft zu vollziehen und zu beschleunigen.

Ich freue mich sehr darauf, Sie auf der ALUMINIUM begrüßen zu dürfen. Unsere Community braucht Sie mehr denn je!

Dear exhibitors and visitors,

Having joined European Aluminium in February, I may be new to aluminium, but even I know what an important platform the ALUMINIUM fair is for our industry. I’ve had it marked on my calendar for months, and I’m looking forward to three days of inspiring exchanges about the massive opportunities the green energy transition will create for our metal in Europe and around the world. Aluminum is everywhere: from electric cars, electricity cables, and batteries to wind and solar power!

And while this hasn’t changed, it would be tone deaf and irresponsible to ignore the very real challenges we’re facing in the here and now. Between the increasingly tangible impacts of climate change, serious concerns about energy prices and security of supply, a highly uncertain outlook for the global economy, and a geopolitical context that often makes me regret opening the newspaper, we’re not short of reasons to worry.

The good news is we’ve already seen how resilient our people, companies, and customers are over the past couple of years. More fundamentally still, there’s encouragement, motivation, and pride to be found in the enduring truth that the need for aluminium in Europe and worldwide will only grow in the years and decades to come. This gives us both an opportunity and a responsibility to deliver and accelerate our shift to a decarbonised and circular industry.
