FINANCIAL DATA OF UNIQLO Uniglo owner Fast Retailing announced a record annual profit on Thursday, as most of the casual clothing retailers markets rebounded from the COVID pandemic The Japanese fashion group said it expected a further rise of more than 15% in revenue in the current fiscal year to August 2023. But it said in a statement that the "business environment continues to be severe in light of progressive inflation and the rapid depreciation of the yen and said net income would fall Fast Retailing said net income for the 12 months ended August rose 60.9% to a record high of 273.3 billion yen, after annual sales rose 7.9% to 2.3 trillion yen Group operating profit increased 19.4% year on year to 297.3 billion yen.

However, greater China, which accounts for about half of the revenue from sales for Uniqlo business outside Japan, remained sluggish, with what Fast said was a significant contraction in profit, albeit with a recovery in the fourth quarter, due to the lingering effects of COVID restrictions in China.
FINANCIAL DATA OF UNIQLO Fast Retailing expects net profit for the current fiscal year, ending next August, to fall by almost 16% year on year to 230 billion yen ($1.57 billion), taking into account foreign exchange effects. Uniqlo has already raised the prices of fleece, down jackets and other autumn and winter products in Japan in response to rising material prices and logistics costs “It is impossible to keep prices unchanged in the face of a weak yen and high raw material prices, Tadashi Yanai, the president and chairman of Fast Retailing, said at a press conference on Thursday. Even after raising prices, "sales are strong," he said. Fast Retailing said it would strengthen international operations, transforming its office in the U.S. into a second global headquarters with a role in R&D and merchandizing. The company will expand shop openings in eastern Europe including Poland, with the aim of more than tripling sales on the continent to 500 billion yen ($3.5bn) by 2027

UNIQLO PERFORMANCE IN FOCUS
14
UNIQLO Japari reported a decline in revenue but an increase in profit in fiscal 2022, with revenue totaling 810.2 billion yen (-3.8% year-on-year) and operating profit totaling 124.0 billion yen (+0.6% year-on-year). Full-year same-store sales (including e-commerce) contracted by 3.3% year-on-year in the first half from 1 September 2021 through 28 February 2022, same-store sales declined by 90% year-on-year because we were unable to fully satisfy customer demand due to shortages in some strong-selling Winter items. However, same-store sales increased by 4.7% year-on-year in the second half from 1 March through 31 August 2022 on strong sales of Kando Jackets and Kando Pants as well as regular shirts that met customers renewed going out needs and strong sales of Summer ranges once the temperature rose from July onwards. Meanwhile, full-year e-commerce sales expanded by 3.1% year-on-year in fiscal 2022 to 130.9 billion yen, constituting 16.2% of total revenue. The UNIQLO Japan gross profit margin improved 25 points year-on-year in fiscal 2022 While the cost of sales worsened in the wake of sharp rises in row materials and transportation costs, the discounting rate improved markedly thanks to our fundamental drive to contral retail prices. The selling, general and administrative expense ratio increased by 15 points year-on-year because we have been increasing advertising spend to strengthen branding from a medium- to long-term perspective, and pursuing strategic investments in automated warehousing.
GOALS OF UNIQLO Despite its huge success so far, Uniqlo faces its own global business challenges. As noted above, the brand takes a very different strategy from its fast fashion competitors like Zara, H&M and Gap. What are some of the strategic business considerations Uniqlo needs to have in mind in its strive to be the world's top apparel retailer? - Differentiation through innovation - Focus more on quality, less on ice - Leveraging on digital - Next generation ownership - Global competition - International expansion
