Lakeside It used to be that visitors to picturesque Shortheath Water sometimes took the opportunity to have a drink and a meal in the Lakeside Tea-Shop. These days, visitors to the Lakeside Bistro sometimes take the opportunity to enjoy the sylvan beauty of Shortheath Water. It’s funny how things change… Carol Mallen and her daughter Joanne saw the potential when they bought the tea-shop nine years ago. Now, along with husbands Peter and Richard, their dream is coming true: the venue has a large and dedicated cast of enthusiastic ‘regulars’, and the introduction of an evening a la carte menu has attracted the attention of discerning diners from far and wide. ‘We had to up-grade our coffee offer to match all the other improvements we’d made’, Carol said. ‘We’re famous for our home-made food, but these days customers expect top-quality coffee and we felt we were in danger of disappointing them.’ There’s no barista at Lakeside, so an automatic coffee solution was required.
