The elves and the Shoemaker /P POF NBLFT TIPFT MJLF BO FMG FRi 17 - SaT 18 FeBRUaRy Inspired by the exquisite Ladybird Book, the Theatre of Widdershins brings to life the classic and enchanting tale of The Elves and The Shoemaker, at The Core at Corby Cube on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 February. Following the sell-out success of their last show Billy Goat’s Gruff, Theatre of Widdershins have re-heeled this well-loved fable with a beautifully-crafted set and puppets, sublime music, a comic mouse and a kaleidoscope of miniature shoes. Elvis Schumacher, cobbler and craftsman, has worked all his life creating the most
beautiful footwear, but now times have changed. Everyone’s buying boring shoes from the evil businessman, Bunyan Soleless. Time is running out for Elvis. With one piece of leather
left and Bunyan’s factory growing, can anyone help him? Beginning in 1993, the Theatre of Widdershins’s subtle combination of table top puppetry, pop-up sets, storytelling and dramatic music has produced a number of successful shows including the much loved Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel and Tower of Doom and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe award-winner The King’s Got Donkey Ears. A magical must-see for little ones, the Theatre of Widdershins brings The Elves and The Shoemaker to The Core at Corby Cube on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 February at 11am and 2pm. This performance is suitable for ages 3 plus. Tickets are priced at £5.50 and can be booked via the Ticket Office on 01536 470 470 or at www.thecorecorby.com.

Oedipussy )JMBSJPVT BOE PVUSBHFPVT FRI - SAT 18 FEBRUARY Following on from its acclaimed 2011 Made in Northampton season, Royal & Derngate starts the new year with an eagerlyawaited collaboration of artists from the forefront of British theatre. Hot on the heels of their acclaimed Moby Dick, Spymonkey’s hilarious physical comedy combines with the playful storytelling of Kneehigh’s artistic director Emma Rice (Brief Encounter) and writing

The result is a tale of forbidden lust, accidental incest, violent murder and the ultimate dysfunctional family: a jealous father, a messedup son, and one mother of a
brilliant comedy. Inspired by Barbarella and a little bit of Bond, Spymonkey turn their unique brand of theatrical invention to this greatest of tragic tales, bringing it to life in typically outrageous fashion with the help of set designer Michael

The Lightning Seeds have been entertaining audiences for over 20 years, and it’s easy to see why when witnessing their unmissable live performance. Ian Broudie conceived the band and penned the majority of the critically acclaimed debut album Cloudcuckooland, featuring the hit single Pure. The band’s 1994 album, Jollification, saw the Lightning Seeds garner the attention they rightly deserved, spawning the hit singles Lucky You, Change, Perfect and Marvellous. Having secured a reputation as one of the most prominent bands of the 1990s, the Lightning Seeds took an ‘elon-
gated break’ at the end of the decade, Ian Broudie moving largely into production and releasing some solo records of his own. 2006 marks the band’s reformation, they released of The Very Best of the Lightning Seeds and in 2010
the band returned to the live arena with a full UK tour.

sAturDAy 25 FeBruAry The Red Bullets were formed in 2007 by Pete Edwards and brother Mark as an outlet for Pete’s songs, many of them co-written with lyricist and close friend, John Bailey. Their music made an instant impact with audiences not only UK wide, but also with those who immediately took the band’s songs to their hearts during tours of Dubai and the French Alps in 2008 and 2009 respectively. The Edwards brothers were joined during the early years of the bands ascent by Mark Wheeler on bass and Kyle Hall on guitar, who both left the band in May 2010 which marked the start of a re-birth for the band with a change in approach and,
of course, personnel. The Red Bullets are returning to The Stables after a couple of years away whilst they have been writing and recording their debut album with producers Chris Porter and Gavin Monaghan. This show will be one of the first times they will have performed the whole album live along with many of your favourite Red Bullets songs spanning the past four and a half years. They will be joined by some special guests. Jim Marshall Auditorium The Stables Wavendon Milton Keynes 01908 280800 www.stables.org

RELEASE DATE: FRI 10 FEB Oscar winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House. Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he’s remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead. For the
past year, Matt Weston has been frustrated by his inactive, backwater post in Cape Town. A “housekeeper who aspires to be a full-fledged agent, the loyal company man has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself. When the first and only occupant he’s had proves to be the most dangerous man he’s ever met, Weston readies for duty. Tobin Frost has eluded capture for almost a decade. One of the best ops men that the CIA’s known, the ex-intelligence officer has given
up assets and sold military intel to anyone with cash since he turned. From trading secrets to North Korea to aiding splinter cells, the damage he’s done to the U.S. is immeasurable. And he’s now back on the reservation with a secret. As soon as Frost is brought in for debriefing, mercenaries come and tear apart Weston’s safe house. Barely escaping, the unlikely partners must discover if their attackers have been sent by terrorists or someone on the inside who will kill anyone standing in the way. Now it’s up to Weston to figure out who he can trust before they’re both eliminated from the game... Set during the twilight of Hollywood’s silent era, the film tells the story of a charismatic movie star, George Valentin (Dujardin), unhappily confronting the new world of talking pictures and the rise of his latest leading lady Peppy Miller (Bejo). There really is no better time to change to that alluring colour you have been looking at or that sexy new cut and style you’ve been yearning after. At March Hair we have the professionals to help you make these decisions, give the best advice and give you the after care to help make the very best from your new 2012 look.
If you do change your look don’t forget changing your home hair care regime will be just as important, you can’t change you entire look and then style it with the same products and in the same way, again we are here to help, just come in and speak with your stylist or make a FREE consultation. 2012 style tips: Ok hold on here we go... There’s lots going in the hair fashion world from wavy locks to sleek off the face looks, to sets
and groomed, slightly pinned up hair. Grooming is key to something more classic. Try a French twist for an easy way to pin up or maybe a half up Bridgette Bardot style, a more relaxed and smoother look than the late Amy Winehouse wore. You can also rag tie your hair for beautiful loose curls or waves. Bored of your bob? Try gripping or pinning to one side to create a mod bob look, very stylish. In fact it’s time to layer it up, add pieces of hair by clipping or weaving them in, wear them down by having them cut in to fit or just use them for up-do’s, with added hair there are no limits. Quiffs for boys and girls will continue to be a main stay this coming year, geeky, sexy and cool, you just have to have one every now and again. On the product front as a ‘Paul Mitchell Signature salon’ we are proud and very excited to announce the arrival of MITCH. A

I know it’s a bit late but happy new year! What a busy start to this year already! There is one thing I would really like to inform people about is the reason and importance of Patch Testing. It is extremely important that patch tests are carried prior to treatments that involve tinting, including Hd Brows. The reason we ask you to patch test is to ensure that you have no allergy to the tint so that we don’t put you as the client at risk of reacting to the tint, which would result in the eye area being red, inflamed and swollen. Sometimes your eye lid/ brows can swell so much you can’t open your eyes! As a salon owner this would be last thing I would ever want a client to experience that is why
each time clients should be patch tested for all tinting treatments. I always get clients say to me ‘I’ve had my hair dyed for years’ , ‘ I’ve always had my lashes tinted but just not here’ or ‘oh I don’t need patch testing I’m sure I will be fine’. Honestly I don’t care as all I want is for each client to be safe and not put them at any risk at all by opting out of a patch test for the only reason is that they think they don’t need one! Even down to the different brands can make a difference to how you react to tint, but also stress, change in lifestyle and medication can all result in people’s lack of tolerance towards tint. It’s a risk that I am not prepared to let clients take for their skin or eyes. So if your going to a new salon or wanting tinting, you

Look Red Hot and Save Lives (P 3FE GPS )FBSU JO 'FCSVBSZ FRIDAY 24 FebRuARY Turn heads, warm hearts and wear red on the 24th February for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) National Wear Red Day. Heart disease kills three times more women than breast cancer but by turning red, you can help the BHF to reduce this number. As part of National Heart Month the na-
tion’s heart charity is calling on the UK to brush down their red dresses, shake out their red locks or even unlock their most precious Louboutins to help raise valuable money for its fight against heart disease. A famous fashion designer once said, “When in doubt, wear red and that’s exactly what the BHF is encouraging
you to do. It can be a touch of red for those who want to be more alluring or it could be a full blown outfit dedicated to the ‘emotionally-intense’ colour. With a suggested donation of just ÂŁ1, women, men and children around the country will make a big difference in beating the UK’s biggest killer on National Wear Red Day.

Planning permission "T UIF PME TBZJOH HPFT JG ZPV GBJM UP QMBO ZPV QMBO UP GBJM If like a lot of home owners you are thinking of extending your property or having some building improvements done, you had better Check first if you need planning permission. Planning applications usually take your council at least eight weeks to approve, frequently they take longer, so now is the best time to start making plans as it could take a few months to get everything you need in place before

the building work can start, which is best done during the summer months. It sound obvious, but before you apply for planning permission, you should make sure you need it. A number of smaller building developments, e.g. many extensions or conservatories, don’t need planning permission. These are called ‘permitted developments’ and you won’t need planning permission for these
as long as certain conditions are met. In some cases permitted development rights may have been withdrawn. If you live in a designated area, eg. a conservation area, or if your house is a listed building, different rules apply. Before doing anything you should check with your local planning authority what the rules for your building project are. Many people prefer to have an expert handle the planning application, you can ask your agent, architect, solicitor or builder to do it for you. If you’re not the sole owner of your property or if the property is a leasehold, you need to inform the owner/part owner and any leaseholders who have at least seven years left on their lease. A good architect or building firm like W. W. Brown have lots of experience in these matters and can take a lot of the stress out of the whole process, however they cannot guarantee your plans will be approved. After you’ve submitted your application, the local planning authority will check
it and make it public to give other people the opportunity to comment or object on it if they want to. Then the council will decide whether your application is approved or refused. You should only start your building work after you get confirmation from the council saying that you have planning permission. Starting work without permission could be disastrous as they have the power to make you take it all down again at your own cost. If planning permission is refused, you should talk to the planning authority to find out why. You can then amend your application and send it in again. If you think the authority’s decision is unreasonable, as a last resort, you may consider appealing to the Secretary of State.

Move over, Range Rover! 5JN #BSOFT $MBZ UFTUT UIF 1PSTDI $BZFOOF %JFTFM For any business, particularly for those based in the countryside, Porsche’s latest Cayenne Diesel is a good alternative to the predictable Range Rover.
The German car, which was revamped recently, has permanent all-wheel drive with self-locking centre differential. The luxury SUV’s power is
transmitted to all four wheels with optimum precision and control. It is a refined and impressively quiet off-roader which is
also capable of great acceleration - it is a Porsche after all! The latest three-litre V6 Diesel engine offered in the Cayenne now delivers 242 bhp - 5 bhp more punch than previously via an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission, which includes steering wheel

mounted gearshift controls. Fuel economy has risen to 39.2 mpg and CO2 emissions have dropped to 189 g/km. In addition, the power increase has had a positive effect on performance: the acceleration time from 0-62 mph is just 7.6 seconds, and the top speed is 138mph. Unsurprisingly, the Cayenne makes a great towing vehicle and the preparation for an optional tow bar system comes as standard. For the big-
gest loads, you can choose from two towing options: an electrically retractable tow bar unit, which was fitted to my test vehicle (at a cost of £825), or a manually detachable tow bar. With the electric version, the ball neck can be retracted beneath the rear apron – all at the push of a button. Both options have a maximum braked trailer load of 3,500 kg (with a maximum nose weight of 140 kg) and come with a 13-pole socket. This makes the car ideal for anyone with, for example, an equine business. It is absolutely ideal for lugging a fully laden horse trailer and, with its 4x4 capacity, it is perfect for getting in and out of muddy fields. Of course, the Porsche doesn’t just come with tow bar options; it has a lot of others – but they come at a
cost. For instance, the Cayenne I drove had: metallic paint (£697.00), Porsche communication management including navigation mode (£2,137.00), black full leather interior package (£2,177.00), universal audio interface (£227.00), air suspension with self-levelling ride height adjustment (£2,380.00),
Bluetooth phone capability (£534.00),19-inch Cayenne Design II alloy wheels, with all season tyres optimised for rolling resistance (£1,4 56.00), electric tilt/slide sunroof (£1,004.00), bi-xenon headlights (£1,165.00), brushed aluminium interior package (£526.00), roof rails including roof mouldings in aluminium finish (£590.00) and a heated windscreen (£324.00). Phew! Along with the electric tow bar fitting that pushed my Cayenne Diesel’s price tag to a whopping £60,380.00! Option-packs aside, Porsche says that the basic Cayenne Diesel is confirmation that a 100-metre sprinter can also run a marathon. To be honest I would agree, because that statement pretty much encapsulates the oil-burning model’s attraction – it is a tremendously sporty car to drive, but it is also very practical and delivers decent fuel economy for everyday use..
