Snickerfritz Cultural Workshop for the Arts
A Day Filled with Sunshine, Healthy Food, and Fun! The September 15, 2018 Collard Green Cook-Off & Arts Festival included the inaugural chalk festival— run by visual artist Mr. Rodney Carpenter, and many of our youngest guests welcomed the opportunity to share their artistic gifts!
Another Awesome Collard Green Cook-Off & Arts Festival! By Prof. Edward E. Parker An enthusiastic crowd was on hand for the 13th Annual Collard Green Cook-Off & Arts Festival! Kudos to Ms. Lazelle Carmen for her leadership role during the planning, coordination, and implementation stages, and special thanks to our board members, sponsors, patrons, vendors, performing and visual artists, cook-off contestants, caterer, volunteers, and everyone who joined us for the 2018 event. Remember, I love you all, and I look forward to seeing you next year—when we’ll be awarding a special prize for the best green outfit!

Whether at the Door or on the Stage, All Eyes -- and Art -- Are on You! In addition to the beautiful smiles on the faces of those who greeted guests at the door, Festival participants also enjoyed creative and colorful face (and arm!) painting by Mr. Walter Allen Rogers, a fashion show coordinated by Ms. Erma Somerville, jazz and gospel music by Mr. Reggie Kelly and Dr. David Thomas, and drumming by Mr. Adetobi Ajibilu on the outdoor stage. –Prof. Edward E. Community Engagement + Staff, Board, and Sponsor Support = ... both my social development as a member of each of the aforementioned Ohio communities and all along my professional career path in Greater Cleveland.
For years, my mantra has been, “Think Art for Social Development!” This is the message that every visitor to the Edward E. Parker Creative Arts Complex sees as they enter the Events Center.
The Edward E. Parker Museum of Art is striving to be the catalyst for “The Renaissance at Euclid and Rosalind” and a conduit between University Circle and the City of East Cleveland, Ohio. On behalf of the Snickerfritz Cultural Workshop for the Arts, I welcome you, always, to this institution of teaching, learning, and social development, where Black history is celebrated every day!
I believe in the transformative power of art, because, from elementary school through my high school years in Toledo –and my post-secondary studies at Central State University in Wilberforce and Kent State University in Kent—educators and museum professionals created opportunities for me to learn about and create art. Even on my most difficult days, I can look back and say with certainty that art facilitated
