ADVISER’S NOTE Dear Friends, Happy 2016! I hope that all of you had an excellent 2015 and that you are looking forward to another whole new year of joy and happiness. It is no easy feat for Singapore to be where she is currently, and it will be no easy journey ahead. There are still threats that could tear apart our social fabric if we are not careful. The President’s speech for the opening of the 13th Parliament has helped to chart the direction for the next 50 years. This Government is committed to improving the wellbeing of all Singaporeans and will work closely with the people for the long-term interest of Singaporeans and Singapore. We are now in a stronger position than our founding generation to embark on a new chapter of nation-building. But we remain a small country with no natural resources apart from our people. This Government acknowledges the importance of investing in our people, to support skills development and lifelong learning among Singaporeans. Hence we have introduced the SkillsFuture Credits for all Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above, which can be used to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related course. You can find more information on the facing page. As we work together to face the many challenges, let us not forget the less fortunate around us. All of us come from diverse backgrounds. We should make good use of our diverse knowledge to bring the different groups together to form one big community, and to foster a more caring society. In Kembangan-Chai Chee, our social team volunteers have done well in engaging the lower-income community but there is much more to do. So I encourage all of you to look out for those who need an additional helping hand around you. It is important for all of us to move ahead together for the well-being of all Singaporeans. Let us work closely together to make Kembangan-Chai Chee and Singapore a great place for our children and grandchildren to live in; a place for them to thrive. I wish you all a great year ahead!
Tan Chuan-Jin

ONE COMM DAY
One Community Day 2016 Since 2011, One Community Day has been a constant event in the KembanganChai Chee Division. The 2016 edition is in its seventh run and will be continuing in the coming years to spread the positive message of volunteering and helping our neighbours in need. This year, the event was done on a grander scale as Kembangan-Chai Chee collaborated with Geylang Serai (Division). This partnership is the first step in making this event a GRC-level one. As with previous events, many contributions were provided and the organisers were extremely pleased. Be it a donation of food or cleaning items, or volunteering time and effort on the day itself, any contribution will always go a long way for someone else. Look out for your faces as we feature the event in this spread. We would especially like to thank all volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to spread the message of love, care and helpfulness to the community.

Spring Cleaning Apart from distributing daily essentials to needy families, other volunteers helped with the spring cleaning of some homes to prepare for the upcoming Lunar New Year. This included some light painting jobs of the house and grills.

Ms Noeline Gomes She has been an active volunteer in Kampong Kembangan and Jalan Senang N’Hood Committee (NC). A resident for over four decades, she finds a sense of joy and pride in getting to know her neighbours through volunteering. Through these activities, she is also able to encourage and keep up the community spirit of sharing and giving, much like the olden “kampong spirit”. Volunteering keeps her physically and mentally active too.
Mr Jarel Tang Jarel is a volunteer with KidzCare @ KembanganChai Chee. He tutors children in the Chai Chee estate together with other community volunteers. The volunteers have become role models the children look up to. He is grateful for the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Mozzie Wipeout A total of 11,298 dengue cases were recorded in Singapore in 2015. Findings from inspections carried out by NEA showed that domestic containers and flower pots were the two most common mosquito breeding habitats found in homes. Residents are strongly encouraged to play your part to protect yourself and your loved ones by practicing the 5-step Mozzie Wipeout to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats. For more information, kindly visit www.dengue.gov.sg or download the myENV app to keep updated on the local dengue situations.
