decide whether the sky or the foreground should be given priority in a landscape photo.

Get Clicking The guide to better travel photography

I

t may not be as cumbersome as the photographing equipment centuries back (think camera obscura and its chunky wooden body), but many still do not relish the idea of hauling a modern digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) when they travel. Fortunately, technology has made it easy for those who fancy fuss-free photography. There is a new proliferation of semi-DSLR, touch screen point and shoot compact camera, with multiple functions that are easy to understand. Yet, there is only that much technology can help you when it comes to capturing winning shots. Good pictures don’t just present themselves; they have to be meticulously thought out and composed before one is able to capture a picturesque image. Consider the following pointers to create the most memorable and striking photographs you can achieve.

looking at, which means having less space behind the head. Static people and animals should be looking into the positive space, as it is strange for people to be pointing out of the frame or away from the great space behind them. A person pointing or looking should always be positioned in the larger area ahead of him.

Rule of ThiRds

Choosing the wrong moment to shoot can ruin the entire picture. The subject looking away, closing their eyes, another person crossing in front of the camera are possible obstructions to a great photograph. Quick decision on viewpoint, composition, focusing, and possessing spatial awareness are probably the greatest assets for quality picture.

Divide your image into three sections, both horizontally and vertically, to obtain the best possible balance. Take a paddy field for example; do not put the point where the end of the paddy field meets the horizon right at the center of the frame. The foreground or the sky should be given the priority to occupy two-third of the frame. Decide on which subject deserves more of the frame.

space allocaTion The understanding of positive and negative space is important. A portrait of someone looking directly at the camera looks balanced when placed in the center of the frame. However, when shooting a person’s profile, create a larger positive space at where the object is

anGles and VieWpoinTs Lose the habit of shooting from a standing position right in front of the sight. Capture the image from different angles – try shooting from high elevation, so as to include everybody in the picture; shoot from a low position to create a towering feel of a person or an object. Explore as many different viewpoints as possible.

The MoMenT

fRaMinG Framing a subject can result in a more impactful image. For example, a picture of just a temple might be boring, but framing it within trees and branches create depth and alter the dynamic of the image. It also gives new life to iconic sights captured similarly in every other travelogue.

Thoughtful space allocation has the ability to set people thinking

“With travel photography, not everything is under control, and situations are often conspiring against you. Get to know your camera better and start practicing to capture the best travel visual images!”

Is Travelling Without Insurance Worth The Risk?

O

ften when planning your dream holiday insurance is the last thing on your mind because not many of us want to admit or even consider that arrangements could get upset and plans could go awry. In the past, most people think that travel insurance is unnecessary. Today, major world events such as volcanic eruption in Europe or Indonesia, earthquake in New Zealand, Tsunami in Japan or riots in Bangkok have made many travelers realized that traveling without insurance protection is taking a big personal risk. Here are some real life situations of what could go wrong:

You and your immediate family arrive at the airport waiting to board your flight scheduled at 10am, only to find that your flight has been delayed to 4pm. Who will pay for your inconvenience? Your bag is lost with your prescription medication inside. You need help to locate your bag as soon as possible and have your emergency prescription filled. Who do you call? On your first visit to Europe, your passport and wallet are stolen. Who do you turn to for assistance to locate the Malaysian Embassy to replace your passport? You’re involved in an accident and adequate medical treatment is not available. Who will help arrange and pay for a medical expenses and evacuation? If your mother-in-law becomes seriously ill and you must cancel your trip. What happens to your nonrefundable deposits or pre-payments? Your hospital expenses reach up to RM 300,000 due to an accident overseas. Who can help guarantee your hospital bill? Ensure you have a travel insurance that offers 24 hours emergency trip assistance solution and related coverage to solve your problems. Travel insurance usually cost only about 2-4% of total travel expenses for the full bouquet of benefits offered. Be smart and be sure to include travel insurance as part of your travel budget. any have described Rajasthan as the ‘Abode of the Kings’, a sensuous mixture of rich legacy, pride and honour, chivalry, bravery, fearless kings and beautiful queens amidst senseshaking colourful fairytale-like stories of valour, wars and conquests. The exotic cocktail of luxurious island palaces, historic forts and royal residences in the backdrop of misty mountains, sun-kissed lakes and golden sands does not fail to boggle your mind. The history of Rajasthan is filled with numerous legends of heroic acts of the Rajput Kings who began to rule Rajasthan from 9th century AD. The chivalrous Kings of Rajputana and specially the Maharanas (Great Emperors) of Mewar fought many wars to save the honour of their land, people and traditions. For centuries this has been the Mecca of travellers from around the globe, artisans, adventurers and, of course, settlers from other regions who were enamoured by the glory of the state. Many people came to the desert state of Rajasthan in search of its glorious past. In modern times, this has become a heaven for tourists and visitors who come in to experience the glory, ride on caparisoned camels and elephants, stay in luxurious palace hotels and explore imposing mediaeval forts and royal palaces. Navigate through the desert state of Rajasthan (or Rajputana, as it was then called) to see aweinspiring forts, regal palaces, unassailable fortified structures, stately villas, imposing Havelis, opulent and highly revered temples like the Dilwara Temples and outstanding mausoleums. Unlike other regions, each architectural structure in Rajasthan has a tale to narrate, whether it concerns brave Rajputs or the lavish Mughals. Each structure is meticulously created and is a masterpiece in itself.

Jaipur - The pink CiTy You can start your travel in Rajasthan from the capital city - Jaipur, especially so because of its easy connections with New Delhi. You can drive down from New Delhi over a lush broad highway, or, if you want, you can take a flight or a train down. The city of Jai (victory) or Jaipur, is the capital of Rajasthan built in 1728 by Maharaja (or Great King) Sawai Jai Singh II. The royal family ruled from Amber Palace, which was around 11km away from the main city. The city is referred to as the Blue City due to the blue-painted houses all around. Jodhpur lies near the geographic centre of Rajasthan state, which makes it a convenient base for travel in a region much frequented by tourists. The awesome Meherangarh Fort stands on a mighty rock face 120m high. There is a steep climb up winding through seven gateways, strategically placed. The walls around the entrance are still scarred by cannonball hits with many sites all around of famous soldiers and generals who died fighting at these spots.

Jaisalmer - The GOlden CiTy No trip to Rajasthan should miss this exotic desert (or golden) city of Jaisalmer. Here, too, is an imposing fort built in the 12th century in the middle of the desert. The giant gleaming sand castle is truly a breathtaking sight. Around this are some Jain temples from the 12th - 15th century which are outstanding. Around the fort walls are some incredibly fine sculpted sandstone buildings called Haveli built by wealthy merchants. The most famous are Patwa-ki-Haveli, Salim Singh-ki-Haveli and Nathmal-ki-haveli. Another major attraction while in Jaisalmer is the desert - no tour is complete without taking part in a camel safari to the Sam Sand Dunes in the Thar Desert.

Some others also refer to Udaipur as the ‘Kashmir of Rajasthan’ (a reference to Dal Lake) and not without reason. Tourists flock to this enchanting town in the heart of the Aravalli Mountains, which offers three interconnected lakes within the town the Fateh Sagar Lake, the Lake Pichhola and the smaller Swaroop Sagar Lake. The city is really a visual exotica dotted with exotic forts, palaces, temples, gardens, mountains and narrow lanes lines withdrawn with stalls, the entire city throbs of its heroic past, valour and chivalry.

Beautiful Bali

Built on a rock just offshore, Tanah Lot is one of the most famous temples in Bali

From misty mountain treks to bewitching temple ceremonies, Bali is a multifaceted enchantress with a lot more to offer than just sand and surf.

F

or years, Bali has mesmerised and beguiled travellers, who have bestowed upon her names such as “last paradise” and “island of the gods”. It could be the intoxicating scent of frangipanis carried subtly upon the breeze, the inspiring landscape of serene rice terraces juxtaposed against rugged surf, or the enchanting temple ceremonies and dedicated spirituality of the locals. Many have returned home waxing lyrical about her charms, and it’s not just the beach that they are besotted with. While Bali today remains a tourist haven best known for its golden beaches and vibrant nightlife, it is more than just a playground for sun and pleasure seekers. From mountain treks at dawn for nature enthusiasts to temple tours for culture vultures, the Indonesian island will have something to please, whichever your travel personality.

from Kedisan can be extremely steep, so ascend from Toya Bungkah for a breezier way up. Gunung Batur is also where you can see Bali’s biggest crater lake, which was formed about 30,000 years ago after a major eruption. Other nature expeditions include jungle trekking, white water rafting at the Ayung River and cycling trips through rice fields and villages. These can be easily booked at tourist information centres.

FrazzLed urBaNiTe Tourist magnet it may be, but stressed-out urbanites hoping to get away from it all can still find pockets of restful serenity in Bali. The general rule of thumb is to travel away from the developed areas in the south of the island.

NaTure Lover With wild jungles, volcanic mountains, serene lakes and safari parks, Bali certainly has myriad options for nature lovers. For a start, head to Bali Barat National Park, where you can spot animals like deer and wild boar as well as endangered species like the wild banteng and Bali Starling amidst its varied landscape. Trekking and climbing enthusiasts can scale Bali’s mountains, including the active volcanoes Gunung Agung and Gunung Batur. At 3,100 m, Mount Agung is the highest and holiest point in Bali, and all local temples are built to point in its direction. Climbs usually begin at 2am in order for climbers to reach the summit in time to see the gorgeous sunrise, so it is best to hire a local guide as the route can be dark and tricky. Climbing is not permitted when major festivals are held at Pura Besakih, a temple perched on the mountain slopes, so be sure to check ahead. At about 1,500 m, Gunung Batur presents a slightly easier and shorter climb (about two hours). The route up

Candi Dasa is a small fishing village nestled between mountains and the Lombok Strait. While it is one of the most developed areas in East Bali, many of its original day-trippers have moved on towards Amed, leaving plenty of accommodation options and fewer crowds. The calm waters and stretches of black volcanic sand at Lovina Beach in North Bali are also good for getting away from the crowds. Hire a boat to take you out to sea at dawn for a chance to spot wild dolphins. Apart from the quieter beaches, the lush paddies of Ubud also offer respite for the jaded. Put on your walking shoes and head for an invigorating walk through the rice fields and local villages. In a scene seemingly untouched by tourism, weathered rice farmers plough the fields as ducks waddle idly and children fashion ingenious tadpole traps from plastic bottles. Those looking for a wellness getaway will also find options ranging from day spas to yoga retreats. Succumb to a massage at Padma Spa by Mandara in Legian, perfect your asanas at the Yoga Barn in Ubud, or splash out on a stay at COMO Shambhala Estate, which offers Ayurvedic and hydrotherapy therapies along with yoga and Pilates retreats.

From calm shallow bays suitable for beginners to fierce currents teeming with manta rays and sharks, Bali’s tropical waters and diverse marine life present countless underwater pleasures for dive enthusiasts. While you can dive all year round in Bali, the best dive conditions are present during the dry season from May to October. This is also the best time to spot creatures like manta rays, sharks and sunfish. The most popular dive sites are in Amed and Tulamben, two small villages in northeastern Bali. The area is where the American World War II USS Liberty shipwreck is situated. Just a minute’s swim from the rocky shore, the wreck is approximately 120 m long and

Surrounded by beautiful coral reefs, Menjangan Island is a sheltered reserve with several caves teeming with gorgeous sea fans, snappers and moray eels. It is also common to see shoals of tuna and angelfish, along with bigger Manta Point in Nusa Penida creatures like sharks and sea turtles in the waters, especially if you swim out towards the Anker Wreck. Those interested in underwater photography should head to Seraya Secret, a macro dive site teeming with harlequin shrimp, along with other critters like frogfish and pipefish. Experienced divers can also try Manta Point in Nusa Penida, an island located southeast of Bali. While the waters are characterized by temperamental swells, you will be well rewarded with a chance to swim with graceful mantas.

suN seeker If what you’re after is a beach vacation filled with days out at sea, nights out at clubs and a golden tan to flaunt at the end of it all, Bali’s famed Kuta strip is the place to go. A 15-minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport will bring you into the heart of Bali’s famous beach enclave, where surf shops, restaurants and cheeky peddlers line its streets. Undeniably touristy and therefore extremely convenient and accessible, Kuta sees throngs of tourists ranging from thrifty backpackers to extended families. Look past the frenetic mayhem in the streets and head towards the 5-km stretch of beach where sunbathers and surfers congregate. The beach is ideal for peoplewatching as you work on your tan, but don’t expect to get much summer reading done as the roaming vendors can be very insistent when hawking souvenirs and services like massages and hair braiding.

The active volcano mt Batur and its surrounding lake make for a captivating view

If you’re hankering for some action out at sea, rent a board or sign up for a surfing lesson. A firm favourite is Odysseys Bali Surf School in the Mecure Hotel Kuta Arcade. Certified by the Academy of Surfing Instructors Australia, their instructors are equipped with lifesaving skills so you can be sure you are in good hands. Other established schools include Pro Surf School and Big Kahuna Surf School of Hawaii. Kuta beach is home to one of Bali’s most spectacular sunsets, so stay on after surfing to watch nature paint the sky in fiery hues of red and gold. When night falls, party animals will be right at home in Kuta, where small bars jostle for attention with bigger names like Hard Rock Café (gigs at Hard Rock begin at 11pm and continue until 3am on weekends). Or head a little beyond the main Kuta drag to M Bar Go at Jalan Legian to party with the bold and beautiful amidst hiphop tunes.

Bali’s luwak coffee is an exquisite brew containing flavours not found in other coffees

If pumping beats aren’t your scene, hop on a cab to the upmarket Seminyak area and nurse a cocktail at KU DE TA. Situated right on the beach, the sprawling restaurant-bar is equal parts trendy and chill-out, with excellent music and plenty of lounge seats overlooking the ocean.

GourmeT TraveLLer From no-frills warungs (eateries) to fine dining restaurants, foodies will be spoilt for choice when presented with Bali’s plethora of dining options. While local meals revolve mostly around rice and simple dishes, Balinese ceremonial dishes like babi guling (roasted suckling pig) and bebek betutu (smoked duck) have piqued the interest of travellers and are now readily available on menus. Both locals and tourists flock to Ibu Oka at Ubud for the babi guling, which boasts a crispy crackling and is served with steamed rice, blood sausage and fried innards. Another place to taste the dish is at Gemah Ripah, an unassuming warung in Denpasar that also serves bebek betutu, but have your concierge call up a day in advance to make a pre-order. If you’re staying around Kuta, Ketupat Restaurant is the place to go for a Balinese menu featuring the duck, along with other authentic dishes like plecing pakis (fern tips in chilli-lime sauce) and be sampi (spicy beef casserole). Over the years, award-winning establishments by international chefs have also put Bali on the culinary map. Set up by Swiss chef Heinz von Holsen in 1997 to offer tourists a taste of home-style Balinese cuisine, Bumbu Bali is still the place to go for dishes like sate lilit (minced seafood on lemongrass stalks) and ayam betutu (a chicken variation of bebek betutu). Another restaurant worth a culinary detour is Mozaic, which serves up an innovative menu that marries local produce with chef-owner Chris Salan’s modern Western techniques. Temples are a must-visit on an island where spirituality is deep-seated in the locals and where it is rumoured there are more temples than homes. Major attractions include sea temples Pura Tanah Lot and Pura Uluwatu, both of which sit majestically at the edge of steep cliffs and make for excellent snapshots at sunset. Another noteworthy site is the Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, a major water temple set on the serene shores of Lake Bratan near Bedugul. Dress modestly when visiting the temples — this means no miniskirts — or rent a sarong at the entrance. Art and culture are deeply embedded in the Balinese and Ubud is undoubtedly its artistic heart. Peppered with galleries, it is where you can view Spanish artist Antonio Blanco’s bizarre and Salvador Dali-esque paintings at the Blanco Renaissance Museum, learn more about Balinese life through the pieces inspired by nature and culture displayed at the internationally recognised Neka Art Museum, and hone your palette skills with private painting lessons at Pranoto’s Art Gallery. The town is also home to key cultural attractions such as the Puri Saren Agung (Ubud Royal Palace), a beautiful old palace with ornate inner courtyards, magnificent architecture and serene ponds that form a stunning backdrop for Balinese dance performances like the hypnotic legong and dramatic kecak. Get a copy of the performance schedule from the Ubud Tourist Information Centre. A few kilometres from town is the landmark elephant cave at Goa Gajah, an ancient temple with water springs, bathing pools and a cave housing a statue of the Hindu god Ganesh. Not too far from it is Yeh Pulu, a less touristy but no less magnificent complex of ancient rock carvings that is worth a visit. Ubud is also a convenient hub for easy trips to several craft-specific villages such as Mas Villlage, where you can watch masters carve lifelike sculptures out of wood, and Celuk Village, where artisans are trained to craft intricate gold and silver ornaments and accessories.

Sarawak Regatta

Slated to run from September 15-18, the Sarawak Regatta is an eagerly awaited event with a truly international appeal and strong support from the local and tourist communities

F

or four sun-kissed days from September 15-18, the breaking of the waves brings with the ocean winds the world’s best and brightest boats as they converge on the welcoming waters of the Kuching Waterfront on the Sarawak River for the annual Sarawak Regatta. Sails have been proudly billowing in the bayu winds from as early as 1872 when the event was first recorded in the Sarawak Gazette. The Sarawak Regatta has been a landmark event through the ages as a cultural sporting event for early communities living in and around the once-small town of Kuching. Since then, the event has blossomed into a world-class premier water-sport event for the State with distinct historical and cultural significance and a much anticipated annual highlight for all who live in and flock to Kuching. The tradition of holding the annual Regatta in the Sarawak River continued through the Colonial period and through the formation of Malaysia. During these periods the Regatta prospered under the stewardship of the Kuching Resident and District Office which brought its unique historical and cultural cache to the fore and nurtured the event as a key attraction. Amidst the pomp of the occasion and the prowess of the crews manning the regal vessels from all over the world on display, the wide array of side events which celebrate Sarawak’s tourism, handicraft, science and technology advances, its rich culture and tantalising cuisine compete to hold sway with visitors but are no less enthralling a draw for the crowds.

Promoted these days as the premier water-sport event in the state’s tourism calendar the Sarawak Regatta ranks as the most aristocratic amongst all the sailing and racing events in Malaysia in terms of its popularity and patronage. Every year, the Kuching Waterfront and the banks of the Sarawak River come alive with this truly multi-cultural sports extravaganza showcasing the ethnic diversity of the state and its guests, with boats of various colours and sizes vying for honour and glory in the spirit of friendly competition. The Sarawak Regatta is not merely a boat race but an occasion to celebrate as thousands gather to cheer

and take in the convivial atmosphere of the event. As always, the passion of the participants ensures a great sporting spectacle for the crowd who shout themselves hoarse with excitement. This, more than any other is why the Sarawak Regatta has come to be immortalised as ‘the Mother of all Regattas’ where the majesty of the occasion almost matches its awe-inducing natural beauty of the land.

Istanbul Invites You

Istanbul’s beauty lies in its ability to embrace its contradictions. Ancient and modern, religious and secular, Asia and Europe, mystical and earthly all co-exist here.

a hole ın one

The availability of large space suitable for golf, and the temperate climate of the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts create a great potential for Golf Tourism in Turkey. Check out some of the more interesting courses available at the Everlasting Capital:

Gloria Golf resort Situated in the pine forests at the foot of the Toros Mountain, this course was designed by French golf architect Michel Gayon. It is considered a Gayon classic with deep bunkers, green areas and seven ponds.

nobilis Golf otel Designed by internationally renowned architect Dave Thomas, this course is next to a natural pine forest around Belek Acisu River, and has been operating since 1998. It covers an area of 729,000m2 with 18 holes.

I

stanbul, once known as the capital of capital cities, has many unique features. It is the only city in the world to straddle two continents, and the only one to have been a capital during two consecutive empires Christian and Islamic. Its variety is one of Istanbul’s greatest attractions: The ancient mosques, palaces, museums and bazaars reflect its diverse history. The thriving shopping area of Taksim buzzes with life and entertainment. And the serene beauty of the Bosphorus, Princes Islands and parks bring a touch of peace to the otherwise chaotic metropolis.

Topkapı palace One of the most astounding and popular places to visit in Istanbul is Topkapi Palace, the symbolic and political centre of the Ottoman Empire in between the 15th and 19th centuries. It stands on the tip of land where the Golden Horn, the Sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus come together, and is a maze of buildings centered around a series of courtyards, typical of Islamic tradition. Such is the complexity of each building, it will take many hours in order to be explored properly. Opening hours: Daily 09.00 – 17.00, winter closed Tuesday.

Dolmabahce palace Built in the reign of Sultan I Abdulmecit during the 19th century, this over-ornate palace lies along the European coast of the Bosphorus. Dolmabahce Palace was constructed in between 1843 and 1856, mixing different European artistic influences and built by Abdulmecit’s architect, Karabet Balya. It was built over three levels, and symmetrically planned, with 285 chambers and 43 halls. Opening hours: Daily 09.00 – 16.00, except Monday and Thursday. Telephone number to book guided tours: (0212) 23 69 600.

ÇıraGan palace The huge palace was constructed by architect Serkis Balyan in 1871, as appointed by Sultan Abdul Aziz, from the ruins of the old palace. It briefly housed the

Turkish Parliament from 1908, but was destroyed by a fire two years later, and was only rebuilt in 1991. Now, it is Istanbul’s premier luxury hotel, and has retained something of its former glory.

beylerbeyı palace Beylerbeyi, in which the Asian Tower of Bosphorus Bridge was constructed, is a beautiful district allotted for palaces since the Byzantium era. Sultan Abdulaziz built the Palace, to replace the older, wooden palace, between 1861 and 1865. Eastern and Turkish motifs are used with Western design elements, on the sides and for internal decoration, and the atmosphere is something resembling that of Dolmabahce Palace. Open daily except Monday and Thursday.

yılDız palace This vast park consists of mansions, gardens and lakes, the whole area surrounded by high walls, and all set in a superb hillside location. Popular at weekends and holidays with locals, it offers one of the few green areas within the city centre, and is a great place for walking, relaxing and eating. Park: Open daily 09.00 – 17.30 Sale Kosku: Open daily 09.30 – 17.00, except Monday and Thursday. Museum: Open daily 09.00 – 16.30, except Monday.

klassis Golf and country The course was designed by one of the world’s best golf players, Tony Jacklin, and has hosted the European Challenge Tour in 1997 and 1998, and the BEKO Seniors PGA Tour in 1999.

kemer Golf country club Catering not only to golfers, Kemer Golf Country Club is suitable for every member of the family. It has everything under the sun with a wide range of sports, entertainment, relaxation and dining facilities. A few of such conveniences include a cinema, open & indoor swimming pool, stables, mountain bike and recreation club, playground, casino and a gymnasium.

national Golf club The National Golf Club Antalya was opened in late 1994 and designed by Ryder Cup player David Feherty and Seniors Tour player David Jones. It was the first golf course in Turkey to be developed with the guidance of the European PGA and has been designed in accordance with their standards.

Tat Golf This course is built on an area of 13 acres by Hawtree of England, a Golf Course Architect. It has 18 holes, 9 hole academic course, a training field, bars, open-air swimming pool, maintenance facilities and even international telephone and satellite. Not enough golfing? There are still plenty of courses to play from. Come now and experience what it’s like to be a Champion at the PGA Tour. It’s all here at Extreme Turkey. Mediterranean

Spain

Diverse as Day and Night

S

pain can best be summed up as a country as diverse as day and night. From the food to the culture and lifestyle, to historical monuments and dramatic landscapes, Spain has consistently featured as one of the Top 5 destinations of the world. With so much to offer for every holiday need, it is no wonder tourists flock to this Mediterranean country year in year out to explore its many charms. The two main cities for Spain are Madrid and Barcelona. Madrid is located in the mainland while Barcelona is located on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula facing the Mediterranean Sea. Madrid’s main attractions include the Royal Palace where the kings of Spain lived from the 18th century until early 20th century and Plaza Mayor, a grand symmetrical rectangular square which in the olden days was the site for festivities, royal coronations and bull fights. Barcelona on the other hand, has the famous boulevard known as Las Ramblas. The most famous street in Barcelona, La Ramblas is often crowded with tourists and locals alike with flower stalls, street artists and kiosks lined along the boulevard. A stroll through the streets of the city is likened to a walk in an open museum where you will appreciate the monuments of the genius and eccentric architect, Antonio Gaudi. Some of his most famous works include the unfinished Sagrada Familia which is perhaps the most recognisable landmark of Barcelona today. His other works such as Guell Park, Casa Batllo and Casa Mila are so unique and different from any other architecture throughout Europe, looking like a page out of a fairytale book. For those who appreciate artistic beauty, Spain is the only country in the world with 13 cities declared as World Heritage Sites. These cities are recognised for their outstanding cultural and historical importance and include among others Toledo and Cordoba. Located near Madrid, Toledo was once the Spanish capital and is known by the locals as “The Imperial City”. A guided walking tour through the twisting streets of Toledo highlights the Jewish Synagogue which is one of the oldest in Europe as well as the Church of Santo Tome which houses one of the masterpieces of El Greco, a painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance who is of Greek origin. Cordoba on the other hand, has one of the most colourful histories imaginable. It was the largest city in Medieval Europe and the seat of Muslim civilisation in Europe. Here you can see the magnificent Mezquita, a former 8th century Moorish mosque which is now Cordoba’s main Cathedral. While Cordoba was the seat of Muslim civilisation, the last Muslim ruler of Southern Europe ruled from the Alhambra Palace in Granada. Alhambra Palace is Spain’s most spectacular example of Moorish architecture. The palace and its fortress occupy a hilly terrace on the southeastern border of Cordoba. Other places to visit in Spain include Costa del Sol, a popular tourist destination on the coast as well as Seville, the artistic, cultural and financial capital of southern Spain. Straddling the River Guadalquivir, Seville has an abundance of twisting streets and narrow lanes, adding much to the character of the city. More exciting packages for Europe, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Exotic, Club Med, Asean and Domestic available this MATTA. Pearl of the South

Explore the wonders of South Africa in 10 days with Parlo Tours and be blown away by its sublime beauty and boundless wilderness Day 1: Kuala lumpur – Dubai – Durban Depart for Durban, the largest city in South Africa, from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Day 2: Durban Driving along the Golden Mile, a popular stretch of beachfront in the city, travellers are able to catch a glimpse of the Suncoast Casino in the north and Vetchies Pier in the south. Slightly up north stands the prestigious Moses Mabhida Stadium, which was one of the host stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, boasting a capacity to hold 54,000 spectators. Witness some of the African’s traditional cultures such as tribal dancing and spear making in Shakaland – a Zulu homestead, which is a unique resort that houses the homes of the Zulus and several hotel rooms.

hyenas and antelopes along the way. A short stay at the lodge in the National Park gives travellers an insight to the spirit of Africa, with its picturesque setting along with exquisite interior design. The luxurious accommodation at the outback is an epitome of experiencing nature within a comfortable realm.

Day 4: pilanesburg national parK – sun City A day might not be sufficient to fully explore the magnificent Pilanesburg National Park; thus spend the next morning with one more round of guided game drive to discover more species roaming along the undergrowth. Explore Sun City, also known as City of Gold, at the later part of the day. This holiday resort city is set deep in the rugged scrub vegetation, within the heart of an ancient volcano, and is South Africa’s most luxurious and well-known resort. A myriad of entertainment such as Sun City Superbowl, the South Africa’s finest concert venue; Sun City Theatre, host to several productions; and two cinemas showing current releases, are set to impress.

Day 5: sun City – pretoria – Johannesburg After getting intrigued by the Zulu’s culture, head over to uShaka Marine World. This 16-hectare theme park is the fifth largest aquarium in the world, and is home to shark species such as the ragged-tooth sharks, hammerhead sharks and local catsharks. As one of the major attractions of Golden Mile, this park guarantees a day of fun and excitement, from its daytime entertainment of Sea World, Wet ‘n Wild, uShaka beach, to the African-styled Village Walk, which has a host of restaurants, cafés and shops.

Day 3: Durban – Johannesburg – pilanesberg national parK Take a domestic flight from Durban to Johannesburg, and then proceed to the notable Pilanesberg National Park. This 572 square kilometres game reserve holds several of the nature’s wonders, especially the exotic wildlife – Africa’s “Big Five”, a healthy population of lions, leopards, black and white rhino, elephants and buffaloes. If luck strikes, you might even spot brown

Travel to the serene city of Pretoria where British colonial architecture meets South African-styled design concept. Ready your camera for notable structures like the Voortrekker Monument, Kruger House, Church Square and plenty more.

Day 6: Johannesburg – Cape town Fly from Johannesburg to Cape Town on a short domestic flight, and travel to the Table Mountain National park, where breathtaking valleys, stunning bays and diverse flora and fauna reside. Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain overlooking the city of Cape Town. It is a major tourist attraction and a must-see for all who visit this park. Another noteworthy geological structure is the Cape of Good Hope – a rocky headland on the Atlantic coast, which possesses a significant importance to sailors for many years. As one of the most-visited attractions in the country, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is a perfect mix of shopping, entertainment and world-class restaurants, with Table Mountain sets as its backdrop. The Nelson Mandela Gateway offers boat trips to Robben Island, which previously served as a place of banishment and imprisonment used by the Dutch.

Day 7: Cape town Explore several major destinations of Cape Town that are perfect for landscape photography – Cape Peninsular, a rocky peninsular that protrudes and stretches 75 kilometres out to the Atlantic Ocean; Seal Island, where a great number of cape fur seals reside; and Boulders Bay, where one can find a penguin colony. Hop on a diesel bus ride and get whisked away on a scenic journey 238 metres above the ocean, bringing one to the Cape of Good Hope.

Day 8: Cape town A visit to Stellenbosch will introduce travellers to a world of fine wine. Stopover at Neethlingshof Wine Estates to taste the finest wine produced in the region. Learn a little history at the Cape Malay Quarter, which was previously occupied by the colonial settlers who spread their growing Islamic faith among slaves and their descendants. An education tour to the Spier Cheetah Outreach Centre will help visitors to understand the plight of the cheetahs and the campaign for their survival. End the day at Westcoast Ostrich Show Ranch, a popular tourist destination providing informative tours, great value leather and featuring an ostrich meat-oriented restaurant.

Day 9: Cape town – Dubai – Kuala lumpur Depart from Cape Town to Kuala Lumpur, with breakfast provided.

Day 10: Kuala lumpur Home sweet home.
