The Regent’s School Bangkok Job Description Head of Whole School Music Responsible to: The Principal General Responsibilities The Head of Whole School Music will be responsible for: •
His/Her own teaching commitment, including preparation, teaching, evaluation, assessment, recording and reporting
•
Effective leading of the teaching and learning within the department
•
Coordinating arrangements relating to Early Years/Primary/Secondary links and transfer in liaison with the Heads of Primary and Secondary
•
Leading the implementation of whole school policies within the department
•
Ensuring the further development of orchestras, ensembles, choirs and the direction and production of performances to a wide range of audiences
Specific Responsibilities Teaching and learning •
Establishing, implementing, monitoring, reviewing and developing departmental philosophy; aims, objectives, priorities and operational procedures in accordance with the school’s overall aims

Planning, implementation, organisation, evaluation and development of the curriculum
•
Establishing effective teaching methodology including: - clear aims and objectives - guidance on teaching methods and approaches - contents of the course, skills, concepts and knowledge - homework - liaison with other departments to establish cross-curricular links
•
Developing and maintaining realistic, reliable and valid assessment procedures including a uniform procedure for ongoing assessment of skills knowledge, and understanding throughout the school
•
Ensuring all curriculum requirements are met; including all curriculum-driven performances, recording of same and all assessment submission deadlines, both internal and external

Ensuring schemes of work across all Key Stages are kept up-to-date and implemented by staff appropriately
•
Lead The Regent’s School Music Scholarship Programme by administering its advertising, auditioning and recommendations for the level of scholarship. Ensuring resources are of a suitable standard so as to continue to attract high-level/high ability applicants and to ensure that scholarship educational requirements are met
•
Ensuring that departmental areas present a lively, conducive atmosphere for learning.
Leading staff •
In liaison with the Head of Phases: the management, deployment, professional development, performance management and welfare of the departmental staff
•
The initiation of Inset Training and subject related support for any member of staff involved in the teaching of the subject
•
Ensure that the departmental team is kept abreast of current developments in education in general and their own subject in particular
•
Hold regular departmental meetings as a main line of communication
•
Communicate effectively with the Core Leadership Team, Key Stage Coordinators, Class Tutors and Learning Support Coordinator with regard to individual concerns, academic, personal or disciplinary
•
Ensure continuity of learning if departmental staff are absent, including arranging of cover work if none has been set
•
Ensure reporting across all Key Stages is of the highest standard: informative, positive and encouraging
•
Ability to act as mediator in the event of conflict between staff members, or between staff and student
Resource management •
Responsibility for the curriculum budget, ordering and issuing of departmental stock
•
Responsibility for the maintenance of good order and security of departmental teaching rooms, equipment and stock
•
Liaise with the Librarian, Learning Support Coordinator and other support/resource agencies within the school to ensure proper and full departmental use of the facilities available.
Co-Curricular

The Head of Whole School Music will be expected to offer a variety of activities as a part of the School’s Co-curricular programme, to further enhance and promote the performance of music throughout the school. Pastoral The Head of Whole School Music will be expected to be available to assist students with any and all queries or concerns they may have with the subject or related facets.
