The Regent’s International School, Bangkok Job Description Title: Secondary Head of Department Reporting to: Deputy Head of Secondary Responsible directly to Deputy Head of Secondary Responsible for all members of the department teaching the subject Policy i. The Secondary Head of Department has responsibility for all matters pertaining to the day-to-day administrative organisation and curriculum issues pertaining to their subject(s) at The Regent’s International Secondary School, Bangkok. ii. To efficiently plan for future curriculum requirements ensuring the school follows the requirements of the English National Curriculum and Thai Ministry of Education demands in consultation with the Deputy Head of Secondary. iii. To assist in the leadership of the Secondary school iv. To exemplify the school philosophy and to ensure the school mission is understood and supported v. Represent and promote the subject to the Board, external advisers and other departmental heads. vi. To be fully committed to the IDEALS philosophy of the school vii. To ensure that all examination subjects are efficiently and effectively taught . viii. To ensure the subject is taught effectively and efficiently in all areas with both vertical and horizontal articulation of the subject. ix. To ensure the school policy of the English Speaking Environment is fully and effectively implemented. x. To be a member of the ‘Heads of Departments’ (HOD’s) meeting and to take minutes of meetings where appropriate. xi. To undertake responsibilities which can be reasonably expected from the Board, Principal, Head of Secondary and Deputy Head. Implementation i. Manage, maintain, implement and evaluate effectiveness of schemes of work regularly updated meeting fully deadlines set by line manager. ii. Manage, maintain and develop assessment, recording and reporting iii. Be thorough in preparation for teaching and working with colleagues teaching to a level of high quality iv. Purchase and administer resources ensuring effectively and efficiently used maintaining an up to date inventory and purchasing logbook. v. To lead and monitor the department ensuring that colleagues are working to agreed approaches and content. vi. To arrange and monitor an effective monitoring process for the Secondary school. vii. To be fully conversant with Secondary School Behaviour Management programmes and ensure implemented for the department. To support the Merit system within the Secondary school To assist where applicable in providing training and professional development needs of staff within the department
Communication Provide and maintain an effective communication process and disseminate information efficiently. Build the confidence of colleagues, empathise with their interests, concerns and needs. To effectively deal directly with the parents of children in the school as required Address staff briefings, meetings and assemblies as required.

Administration To attend Heads of Department meetings. To attend meetings of various committees as required. To effectively deal directly with the parents of children in the school as required To assist in the testing and interviewing of potentially new pupils within the Admissions process if and when required especially department heads of English, EAL, Mathematics and Science. Liaise with members of the department, Deputy Head and Head of Secondary on day-to-day matters. Writing references and recommendations for students when required.
