SPORTS DAY
science fun at home
Dear Parent, The Primary and Early Years departments have a wonderful buzz around them at the moment as we prepare for Christmas. On Wednesday we were delighted to welcome 25 children and their families to our Pre-Nursery Open Morning and they all enjoyed taking part in a range of activities, enjoyed a delicious snack and a special visit from Santa!
visiting the king’s hospital
safari world visit
Two weeks ago we enjoyed a fantastic sports day and it was a pleasure for me to hand out so many medals. The children showed excellent team spirit. Many congratulations to the Blue Sharks who won the Sports Day trophy for the 3rd year in a row.
This week I also had the pleasure of accompanying a group of children to visit the hospital where His Majesty the King is staying. It was an honour and the children represented the Regent’s beautifully and showed great respect. As we finish today to celebrate The King’s birthday, I would like to wish you all a very good and restful weekend.
With best wishes,
Mrs Rachel Perkins

sports day 2014
by Mrs rachel perkins, head of primary
On the 21st of November the Primary School participated in the annual Sports Day. It was fantastic to see such competitive spirit and support from each of the houses. Everyone got to take part in at least one event, from racing to bag toss, to try and earn points for their house. Unfortunately there could only be one winner. Many congratulations to the winning house, the Blue Sharks!

Making Father's Day cards
by Ms lucy golland, Round Square Coordinator
by Ms Helen Normoyle, Reception Teacher
Thank you to all of you who have donated a lovely teddy bear for our teddy bear appeal, they will be given to the children at the Good Shepherd Sisters at their Christmas party. We are about half way there to our target of 100, so please would everyone have a hunt at home this weekend for an unloved but smart looking teddy to donate and bring a smile to lots of little children’s faces at the Good Shepherd Sisters next Friday.
In Reception we have been busy making Father's Day cards as part of the celebrations for the King's Birthday. We have been thinking about our dads and we are very grateful to them for looking after us.

by Ms eleri davis, early years co-ordinator
We have spent the last couple of weeks making a festive Christmas area. We have a fire place with stockings, a Christmas tree and we are waiting for a visit from Santa. The children in Reception have brought in some magnificent decorations for our tree.
In Early Years we are working extremely hard on our Christmas Concert called ‘Donkey For Sale’. The Nativity play will be on the 16th of December at 9.00. We are learning songs and actions to go with the songs. We are looking forward to seeing all our parents at the concert!

Make Science Fun - Try this! Bubble Bomb
REGENT’S newsletter
Ploenchit Fair
by ms lucy golland, round square coordinator
by Mr gavin terry, secondary science teacher Love science? Watch this space for scientific experiments you can try at home! just make sure you have help from a parent or guardian. brought to you by our secondary science teacher mr terry What do I need? Water Measuring cup Zip-lock plastic sandwich bag Paper towel Tablespoon Baking soda Vinegar
What do I do? 1. Figure out where you want to explode your Bubble Bomb. Sometimes the bags make a mess when they pop, so you may want to experiment outside or in the bath. 2. It’s very important to use a bag without holes. Check your zip-lock sandwich bag for holes. 3. Tear a paper towel into a square that measures about 5 inches by 5 inches. Put 1 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda in the centre of the square, then fold the square as shown in the picture, with the baking soda inside. This is your “time-release’ packet. 4. Pour into your plastic bag:
1) 2)
1/2 cup of vinegar 1/4 cup of warm water 5. Now here’s the tricky part. You need to drop the time-release packet into the vinegar and zip the bag closed before the fizzing gets out of control! 6. 6. Shake the bag a little, put it in the bath or on the ground, and stand back! The bag will puff up dramatically and pop with a bang.
What is happening? The vinegar contains an acid. The baking soda contains a base. When an acid and a base react carbon dioxide is formed. This gas is in the bubbles of the Bubble Bomb. As more are formed they push out on the bag – eventually causing it to explode!
The popular annual event, Ploenchit Fair, was held last Saturday, with an enormous array of outdoor attractions and entertainment for the whole family. The Regent’s International School ran a stall where you could get your face painted, play the skittles game ‘Knock ‘em Down’ and purchase popcorn. The stall was ably manned by a team of our boarders, who did a fantastic job, supported by some members of the teaching staff. A fabulous day was had by all and lots of money was raised for the BCTFN (The British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy) who donate all the money raised to a diverse range of Thai charities.

have a judge, a global leader, an environmentalist, a travel writer, a scientist, a hotel developer, and an explorer as characters in their play. It gets very intense in the court room as the Global leader wants to start a war to force a country to house the dangerous material. The judge has a tough decision on her hands as she hears arguments from the environmentalist, the scientist, the explorer, the travel writer and the hotel developer. Ask someone in the club how the judge rules in the end.

House General Knowledge Competition
Our annual General Knowledge House competition took place last week. This year the children had to answer individually and then their total scores were used to determine the House winner.
The T.O.M after school club have been busy “Pondering the Frozen Waste”. Tournament Of Minds (T.O.M) is a problem solving programme where students work together as a team to solve openended challenges. This term students were asked to consider options for disposal of very dangerous, contaminated waste circling the globe. They have spent 6 weeks discussing different ideas, pros and cons of those ideas, and have agreed on the best way to eliminate this problem. They were instructed to create a play set in a floating Nautical Court. They

Safari World Special
by ms helen mullan, Year 1 Teacher Our topic in science this term is ‘Animals Including Humans’ , so what better way to investigate animals than by visiting them at their Safari World home. We had our own special guide and a map to help us navigate our way around the enormous park without getting lost. We were amazed by the number of animals there were and all with different bodies of different sizes and colours! We were lucky enough to get to feed the giraffes some bananas. We learned that giraffes have long grey tongues which they use to feel for the bananas and grab them when they are close by. We also saw the section with all the eggs. Some of the eggs were actually starting to hatch and others had been hatched for a few weeks. It was very educational that the children saw all these birds at different stages of development. The trip ended with a lovely packed lunch and the children exchanging different facts they had learned that day about their favourite animals. A trip to remember. Well done Year 1!

Minute to Win it! On Wednesday night the Boarders were found gathered in the Dining Hall playing some team building games. Biscuits were seen stacked on foreheads, ping pong balls were flying, pens were thrown and caught, and everyone was seen with a smile on their face. The team games were a huge success and whether they won or lost, everyone who took part had a great time.

The Boarders face up to a challenge for charity
On Saturday, our eager Boarders made their way down to the Ploenchit fair, held at Pattana School, to help paint the small and excited faces of happy fair goers, and to control the very popular popcorn stall. The Boarders did a wonderful job painting the children’s faces, and by midday the fair was filled with bright coloured faces. A big thank-you and congratulations to all the Boarders and gaps who made it such a success.
