PAULETTE WILKINSON HEAD OF WHOLE SCHOOL MUSIC paulette.wilkinson@regents.ac.th
Dear Parents,
Busy Music schedule
As Head of Whole School Music at The Regent’s School, Bangkok, I would like to invite you to read about some of the events our wonderful musicians have taken part in this term.
All these events do not just develop their musical skills but as a member of the Round Square organisation these events link very carefully with the IDEALS principals particularly Internationalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service.
With a whole school Christmas concert and a concert with our Community Service partners the Good Shepherd Sisters just passed, let alone all the musical challenges of the rest of the school year, you can see how busy they are.
As a department we are very proud of what the students achieve, and we are honoured to work with such talented young people and are in awe of their energetic approach music-making.

A busy and exciting week for Regent’s musicians by Mrs paulette Wilkinson, head of whole school music
Do you have any idea how many musicians, scholars and other equally wonderful musicians, have represented the school around Bangkok this week? On Thursday evening 7 musicians, including 5 scholars, played in the Last Night of the Proms concert at Shrewsbury School. The concert followed an intensive rehearsal period in after-school and weekend sessions. The students involved were Hyun Woo Y12, Nina Y12, Sally Y11, Marwin Y8, Ken Y7, Emily Y11 and Sunny Y7. On Friday morning several of the same musicians traveled to ISB for the Wind Band festival. Mr. Wilkinson took 5 musicians including 4 scholars for 2 days of music making with an esteemed American conductor. The students played in a massed band of over 180 musicians from Bangkok’s international schools and further afield. The students involved were Poh Y10, Marwin, Jeoung Seok Y9, Jenny Y8 and Sunny.
On Friday afternoon another group of students traveled to Bangkok Patana to play in the KS3 String Festival. We took 5 musicians to this event - Ken Y7 who had played at Shrewsbury, Sadhu Y5 (2 years too young for the event but he played brilliantly on 3rd desk of the first violins) and 3 year 8 musicians, Mona, Jessie and Anshen. The latter three truly exemplify our RS ethos - embryonic musicians taking their first steps in ensemble playing - a great adventure for them and they should be really proud of themselves. Ken was asked to be concertmaster for the orchestra of 121 string players - a great honour for him and Regent’s. Many teachers supported the students at Shrewsbury but what was most noticeable and appreciated was we had parental support at all events and at Patana 100% parental attendance at the concert! All these students have not only enhanced the reputation of the school musically but behaved impeccably - great advertisements and ambassadors for the school.

Bangkok KS3 String Festival at Bangkok Pattana School by Sadhu, Year 5N student and Violinist This was my first time to take part in the Bangkok KS3 String Festival at Bangkok Pattana School. We were playing new music with more than one-hundred new musical friends from different international schools. This was an amazing experience. For one and a half days we rehearsed together, we had lunch and dinner together, we played and talked together. Even though I was tired, all of these activities really kept my spirit up.
I especially appreciated the opportunity to talk with my idol, Ken; he is Year 7 student from our Regent’s School who can play the violin outstandingly. I really appreciate him. I’m deeply grateful to all of my teachers who always give me a very challenging and rewarding experience.

Bangkok Charity Orchestra by Mrs Paulette Wilkinson, head of whole school music
Poh Year 9 and Mrs. Wilkinson were invited to play with Bangkok Charity Orchestra in their concert at K village to raise money for Childline Thailand. The concert featured dance music through the ages finishing with Shostakovich’s Dance Suite - which proved to be a little taxing for Mrs. Wilkinson as one of the pictures shows!
