The past three weeks of Camp Regent’s have seen over 50 happy campers join us for some great summer activities! Mr Bond, Ms Lucy, Ms Eleri, Mr Barrow, Ms Mary, Mr Hu and all of our wonderful Teaching Assistants have been really impressed by how far each child has come. We’ve seen campers on treasure hunts, get active by playing sports such as basketball, swimming, team sports and football and also get creative with arts and crafts and cooking. Our youngest campers have had a wonderful time playing and interacting with eachother - taking

advantage of the school’s play area and fun friends. Primary aged campers have been able to try new activities such as taekwondo, yoga and cooking all while improving their English or Mandarin. Campers who joined Mr Barrow for the IELTs course have seen their English language skills grow significantly and all have grown in confidence when speaking. It’s been wonderful having every single camper at school over the past three weeks - they’ve all been a pleasure! Enjoy the remaining weeks of your summer and stay safe. We look forward to hearing from you all in the future.

IELTS PROGRAMME

Learning the Skills for Success

BY MR CHARLES BARROW, Tutor of the IELTS Programme The IELTS Programme is a course designed for those who intend to take IELTS in the coming months or for those who just want to improve the standard of their English. At the beginning of the course, the students were asked to take some books out of The Regent’s School Secondary Library. For anyone who wants to improve their English, reading is a very important way to learn new words. Students who don’t like to read are going to find it very difficult to improve any language that they are learning. The main part of the course has been about working on the students’ writing, speaking, reading and listening skills. Although we had a more relaxing treasure hunt one afternoon, students have had to work hard every day. They have all tried their very

best – and are becoming more fluent users of English. The students on the course are now beginning to speak more confidently and some of the students have improved their listening skills a lot. Their writing, in particular, has begun to show quite a lot of progress. Their vocabulary books are, also, full of new words. I hope that for some the course will end up in good IELTS results – and for others that they see that their English has improved a great deal. Many thanks also to Ms. Chu, who has been a great help every day both to me and the students.
