HISTORY

Goffredo Reggiani

The Reggiani adventure began in the 1950’s.

Goffredo Reggiani, the eclectic entrepreneur and founder of the company, combined art and Italian creativity to develop his first creations. He began with decorative lamps. The prototypes for these were personally constructed by Goffredo.

His love of beauty and desire for perfection compelled him to involve artists and architects in his dream.

Mr. Reggiani surrounded himself with the best. This philosophy launched the company onto the lighting scene.

In the 1970’s a strategic move into lighting technology

Fabio Reggiani’s. Born of these collaborations came the IOS System, showcasing the combination of design freedom with energy saving considerations. The ability of Reggiani to reinvent light now takes shape in the LED LUCE system using the exclusive LED light source incorporated into the most efficient optics.

In the early 1980’s Goffredo Reggiani brought this remarkable brand to the Amercan marketplace.

Reggiani Lighting USA successfully manufactures, distributes and services a network of customers in the United States from coast to coast.

• the ‘50s: Reggiani Illuminazione was established; • the ‘70s: Low Voltage, the first luminaire range for low voltage halogen lamps with dichroic reflector in Europe;

1970

• the ‘80s: Reggiani enters the US market Downspot, the first fully extractable and adjustable recessed luminaires, setting a new standard;

1980

• the ‘90s: the forward-thinking use of innovative, low-energy light sources and the Mollablok fixing system for quick and easy installation;

1990

• 2005: the year of IOS, the first highly efficient and practical interchangeable optical system;

propelled the company into a brand new world, where scientific research joined aesthetics. Reggiani created the first series of luminaires for halogen lamps with a dichroic reflector. The great success of this invention motivated an entire industry beginning a series of Reggiani innovations, many of which were adopted as international standards.

Reggiani has received many prestigious awards that serve as testimony to the important role the company has played in the lighting industry. Great partnerships have been formed with renowned architects and artists including Gio Ponti and Richard Rogers, and

• 2009: the Reggiani LED LUCE system is born; a megastore has been illuminated using LED light only for the very first time and the designers chose Reggiani LED LUCE.

CULTURE

In the Reggiani International Light Forum, thought turns into matter; every room, every level and every section puts the visitor in touch with the Reggiani way of making light.

The 27,000 square foot Reggiani International Light Forum is an unusual, extraordinary space dedicated to lighting engineers, architects, light designers and light devotees.

It ranges from the “La Luce Precedente� (Early light) museum to the Experimental Light Room, where visitors can personally experience the characteristics of the different types and colors of light.

The Forum includes an auditorium and is the focal point for meetings, conferences, seminars and cultural progress.

The Borehamwood, England offices are home to The Reggiani Design Team “Think Tank”. The Design team works very closely with the Italian headquarters to develop important international lighting projects, produce reports and analysis on energy consumption, keep

up with all the international standards, and study and evaluate market trends.

The Lighting Design teams deliver 50 years of Reggiani knowledge into our customers hands helping them find effective solutions to problems that are often very complex. An actual

partnership is developed that expands the vision and relationship with each design.

During the installation phase, Reggiani USA guarantees a reliable support team to insure the design vision is faithfully translated into reality.

CUSTOMIZING

There are situations where the standard Reggiani product range cannot effectively solve a client’s problem. In these cases it often makes sense to create a customized luminaire. Reggiani offers a

tailor-made service that designs and creates a custom-built solution for any application.

Customized products are managed by Reggiani USA headquarters where resources and technologies

turn a customer’s need into a new product. Reggiani can quickly develop concept drawings, prototypes and layouts that culminate in a beautiful finished product.

The new generation of high power white light LEDs (Light-Emitting Diode) are a real alternative to conventional light sources.

They enable energy saving and zero maintenance costs, thus giving rapid returns on the initial investments.

White light LEDs emit almost no infrared or ultraviolet radiation, making them perfect for lighting works of art and delicate objects.

The quality and color ďŹ delity can be very high and the energy consumption is low for both cool and warm color temperatures. They are adjustable with electronic dimmers.

The LED’s life is estimated at 50,000 hours. That is about 10 years of useful life if used an average of 12 hours per day.

The availability of high power white light LEDs inspired Fabio Reggiani to create the LED LUCE System.

This revolutionary light

source uses the best Nichia diodes, selected by Reggiani, which are enhanced by the exclusive technology of the IOS system.

The CRI (Color Rendering Index) measures the ability of a light source to faithfully reproduce the color of various objects, calculated by the average of fourteen different test color samples. The closer it is to the highest value (100) the higher the quality of the light source

The compatibility of the Reggiani LED LUCE system with the extraordinary efficiency of the IOS system, assures great design flexibility.

The high efficiency of the Reggiani LED LUCE system

(with a flow of 850 lumen at 16 W), highlighted by the exclusive IOS reflectors, lowers power consumption and reduces environmental impact. The LED LUCE system features high color rendering and excellent

visual comfort, with a CRI of 90 and a light temperature of 3000 K. The freedom of choice and the ability to change the width and color of the light beams creates possibilities to draw real brushstrokes of light.

The typical lifetime of the Reggiani LED LUCE system is more than 50,000 hours.

“Switch-on” is immediate even at very low temperatures (-30° C) and lights can be switched off and on without stopping.

The Reggiani LED LUCE is also perfect for emergency

lights since it has very low power consumption.

The Reggiani LED LUCE system is above all environmentally friendly.

It consumes very little energy and the very few components used to create it are recyclable.

OPTICS The Reggiani LED LUCE system shares the design and materials of the IOS system resulting in more light from the same energy.

BODY In order to keep the performance of LEDs stable, their temperature must be within a certain temperature range.

The lighting bodies of the Reggiani LED LUCE system are designed for this purpose, which they perform to perfection.

LED The light sources of the Reggiani LED LUCE system, the diodes, are selected at source and each one is controlled according to the quality of their light. They are only used if they pass the most stringent quality tests.

The absence of ultraviolet and infrared radiation means light-sensitive objects, such as food and materials are not damaged, so they can be illuminated in complete safety.

Generally, the luminous efficiency of traditional optics does not exceed 65%. At least one third of the absorbed energy, and sometimes even half, does not turn into light – it is wasted in the form of heat.

Basing his targeted research on these facts, Fabio Reggiani created the IOS System. This solution combines efficiency, flexibility and savings.

The exclusive IOS system is based on optics with a luminous efficiency of up to 90% (+ 90). It is available in three sizes, eleven different

colors, and in four different light beams.

The efficiency of the IOS System is the result of four years of studies and tests.

The materials used and the exclusive production process make it both technologically innovative and easy to use.

The optics of the IOS System are fully interchangeable thanks to the special twistlock fixing system, making the function of each light point easy to change at any time. The simplicity of IOS installation means beams, irrespective of the light source, are variable

to suit the application.

The IOS combines exceptional efficiency with everyday savings in energy consumption of more than 25% over conventional systems.

The IOS System is applied to a wide range of the Reggiani luminaires.

•IOS has a twist-lock fixing system so it can be changed in an instant.

•IOS is recyclable because it is made from recoverable materials with low environmental impact.

The simplicity of IOS installation means greatly reduced mounting times compared to any other system. Initial outlay and system costs are lower because better luminous efficiency means fewer luminaires to light the same area.

With the IOS system, it is all about freedom of choice.

It is possible to have a traditional lighting design, deciding what light beam, what light source and what kind of luminaire is desired for each specific setting.

The IOS system also promotes responsible energy use. Lower consumption for lighting means using our resources better, reducing air and light pollution and CO2 emissions.

In addition, the IOS System is made completely from recoverable materials.

The technical characteristics and performance of the lighting body depend on a number of factors, perhaps not all universally known.

The prerequisites are accurate and scientiďŹ cally correct projects: the optical compartment must be optimized to achieve the required light distribution and guarantee the highest luminous efďŹ ciency; the ballast and driver technologies must conform to safety standards and the luminaire structure must be designed for correct heat dissipation.

MATERIALS AND CONTROLS

The raw materials are carefully selected to make sure they can reliably perform their functions.

For example, the efficiency of a reflector made from 99% pure aluminium and one made from 99.99% pure aluminium is noticeably different.

The quality of the ballast and driver technology is also extremely important since it affects the performance and reliability of the lighting body.

During the production phase it is necessary to prevent any imperfection or approximation by applying specifically studied procedures. Each individual piece is submitted to a final test, closing the virtuous circle of the Reggiani quality control procedure.

LED LUCE is the new Reggiani lighting system with high-power LED technology (16 watts, 850 Lm, CRI 90, 3000 K.) LED LUCE has an excellent white color, 50,000-hour lifetime, low consumption, immediate switch-on even at very low temperatures, and is environmentally friendly and maintenance-free, making it an excellent alternative to traditional light sources.

The IOS System combines the luminous efficiency of the optics (up to 90%) with the greatest ease of installation based on the twist-lock fixing system. A wide range of colors, sizes, light sources and light beams make it possible to effectively light, and still save energy. It only takes a few seconds to change the color or shape of the light beam.

The optical compartment is a cylinder that sits horizontally on a slim, rectangular extended platform where the ballast is housed. It also functions efficiently because it is split into two separate units for heat dissipation.

The front of the cylinder ends with a retaining ring

Fresnel optics Application of the Fresnel lens makes it possible to obtain very strong, even and above all clear light beams, which eliminate blurred and foggy effects.

In the version with concentric prisms (for symmetric light distribution) the light beam is simply projected, while the one with parallel prisms (for asymmetric light distribution) can light up walls and backdrops.

This provides a high degree of control of the light beam and therefore complete mastery of how the various lighting layouts are developed.

Sir Richard Rogers was born in Florence in 1933 and made his name designing emblematic buildings such as the Pompidou Centre, Lloyd’s of London, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the London Millennium Dome. His studio, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) has offices in London, Barcelona, Madrid and Tokyo.

One of his most recent prominent designs is the new tower for the World Trade Center, New York.

Álvaro Joaquim Melo Siza Vieira was born in Matosinhos, Portugal, in 1933. From 1949-55 he studied at the School of Architecture, University of Porto (ESBAP). His first project was finished in 1954.

From 1955-58 he worked with the architect Fernando Távora.

In 1976 he was appointed Professor of Construction at ESBAP. He has been Visiting Professor in Lausanne, Bogotá and Harvard. He lives in Porto.

Created in 1999 to light an exhibition of his work in the Basilica Palladiana, Vicenza, Lorosae has the same classic harmonious beauty as Palladian architecture. Its essentially pure forms rise above time and fashion to fit naturally into and embellish settings of any architectural style.
