The 'Dos and Don'ts of Skincare' when the heat is on. Practical tips to keep you safe
Cancer is not the only drawback of poor skincare in the summer, though.
Whether you are travelling abroad or planning to spend more time in the garden, now is not the time to neglect your skin.
Ageing Effects Of The Sun
Olympic gold medallist and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner is among those to warn of the dangers of skin cancer. She urges everyone to protect themselves with sunscreen after having cancer removed from her nose.
It takes under 15 minutes of sun exposure to damage your skin. If you care about your appearance and want to slow down the ageing process, proper skincare is vital. Sun damage is at the root of wrinkles and age spots, so if you want to look 40 at 50 or even 60 sun safety is paramount.
With more than 100,000 new cases of skin cancer being diagnosed every year in the UK (over a quarter of those are in the under-50s), the danger posed by UV radiation couldn't be starker. If you have fair skin, making sure you are adequately protected is especially important; The Royal Marsden says those with light skin are at the highest risk.
Before we hit the heady days of July and August, it is a good idea to review what safety products you have already got and which ones you will need. Having skincare essentials close to hand will make you more likely to use them. It doesn't have to cost a lot, so stock up now and save yourself a winter of regrets.

SKINCARE
Summer Skincare Dos There are simple things we can all do to protect our skin during the summer. Here are just a few of them: Invest in a good sunscreen - go for a minimum of Factor 30, Factor 50 if you have mature or fair skin Ensure your day cream includes an SPF of 20 or over Protect your face by staying in the shade as much as you can, if not invest in a wide-brimmed hat Drink at least two litres of water or weak squash a day to keep your skin hydrated Never sunbathe Use a gradual tanning product at home and build a natural-looking tan without any risks Pep up your night-time routine - add a serum if you don't already use one Keep your shoulders and décolletage covered If you are swimming in the sea or a pool, top up your sunscreen regularly Limit your alcohol intake Use a moisturising shower or bath cream Swap your cleansing balm for a refreshing face wash Use a good night cream Always use a moisturising eye cream or gel
Summer Skincare Don'ts Here are some things you definitely shouldn't do if you want to take care of your looks: Never swap the beach for a sun bed Try not to spend more than a few minutes in the sun without protection Don't buy sunscreen that is not suitable for your skin Plan ahead so you never forget sun screen, glasses and a hat
Avoid heavily fragranced soaps and other products that may strip the skin of oils Don't neglect your cleansing routine pores can clog up quickly when sweat mingles with makeup and natural oils
Put Sun Safety First There are countless jokes about sun worshippers looking like lobsters, but the after effects of UV rays are no laughing matter. To keep your skin healthy and youngerlooking, make sun safety a priority this summer. Don't forget... Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
MATURE SKIN
By keeping your skincare regimen simple - and effective - you stand more chance of sticking to it. Thorough but gentle cleansing is the key to everything. It is the one part of my routine that never changes. I remove makeup using micellar water before washing my face with a gentle, hydrating gel cleanser. A few times a week, I use one of those vibrating, wireless cleansing tools (no, not the one everyone raves about and costs over a hundred quid); it's my product-free way to exfoliate. Afterwards, I always tone my skin with a calming or clarifying tonic. As well as prepping the skin for my night-time routine, it removes any face wash residue. I believe the routine itself - the ritual - is as beneficial to the skin as the products you use. So, I stick to the same, simple format. My skin likes it!

Belinda shares her really easy summer skincare regimen
Evening Summer Skincare Regimen My summer routine always starts with the cleansing ritual I've mentioned above. After that, things are equally as simple. Three steps and I'm done. The whole thing takes less than five minutes - so I've got no reason to be tempted to miss a night!
I apply a natural Aloe Vera Gel under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose and on my upper lip. Next up is a 12.5% Vitamin C serum with Ferulic Acid & Vitamins Lastly, I apply a watermelon moisturising gel That's it - done!
6 - REGIME, Summer 2022
Morning Summer Skincare Regimen Nobody has got time to faff about with a complicated routine first thing in the morning. That's why I probably break a skincare rule - I don't wash my face. Never. Instead, I do this: Tone with a caffeine tonic Apply either an eye gel or cream whichever is closest to hand Moisturise with a light day cream containing an SPF of 30 or 50 Apply a moisturising primer with hyaluronic acid - I'm currently using Candy Haze by Revolution Skincare Again, the whole process takes around five minutes. Now I'm ready to apply my makeup. Skincare doesn't have to be complicated. The easier you keep your regimen, the more likely you are to stick to it. Personally, I find the routine addictive. I am 57 later this year. While I don't believe it is possible to completely stop or reverse the effects of ageing on the skin, I am convinced it is entirely possible to slow the process down and minimise the visible signs of ageing. What's your summer skincare regimen?

How to replace makeup items for under 18p each Is your makeup bag looking a bit grotty? Sick of having to negotiate smashed powders, snapped or gunky concealer sticks and shabby mini eye palettes you've hoarded for donkey's years? If you want to invest in new products but keep putting it off because you aren't convinced your budget will stretch the month let alone withstand a blow-out in Superdrug, think again. Don't risk eye infections and blemishes by continuing to use old cosmetics. Stick them in the bin - and, while you are at it, chuck your cosmetics bag in there with them. For years, I piled everything from old lipsticks to setting powder into a disgusting, antiquated spa basket which I kept on top of a toilet cistern. Apart from being the worst possible place to store products destined for the face, nothing was worth keeping.
Not one item was still intact. If it wasn't leaking, reduced to little more than a mass of crumbs or plain old grubby, it was missing a lid or original applicator. That was 15 years ago - before I became a makeup addict. I was just a simple hoarder back then. Eventually, I got a black bin bag and put the whole darned lot in it - spa basket and all. I started again. The fact that I kept going (and going) is another story.
Save Money Replacing Cosmetics There are ways to replenish your makeup without spending a small fortune. How does under 18p per product sound? While there are plenty of bundle deals around at the moment, I don't recommend them - you will end up back at square one.

Lots and lots of individual products are harder to store, a pain to find when you need something and just an all-round hassle. The cheapest - and most savvy - way to start again is to invest in a complete face palette. As well as being easy to store hygienically, you won't have to add much to make your collection complete. They also aid the application process, making it much easier ensuring nearly everything is to hand in one product. A good palette will include pigments for the face, cheeks, eyes and lips. So the only additional items you may require are a foundation, mascara, eyeliner, brushes or a blending sponge, and setting spray. It's worth noting that some palettes include essential tools too. Book-style palettes are completely dustproof, often with a magnetic close. They are slim enough to be stored in a dressing table drawer but large enough to contain a good mix of basic but adaptable products. Face palettes don't just save you money they are more environmentally friendly with less packaging, which is often recyclable.
Mega Beauty Steals My top money saving buy (pictured top right) is the Revolution Pro X Lan Nguyen Grealis Ultimate Artist Palette. What's it got? Pretty much the lot! I love it. In this palette, you will find blushers, bronzers, highlighters, eyeshadow, and lip colours. It is perfect for every-day use. I am spellbound by its sleek, book-style case with black and gold mock crock cover. he bronzers are fab and the lip colours can be blended to make your own shades. All the eyeshadows can be mixed and matched with pigments from other palettes.
Highly pigmented, they really take colour to the next level. Suitable for all skin types, including mature. The best bit? You can pick this little beauty up for between £9.99 and £15. The e.j.f palette by Mimore (pictured below) comes with 52 fab colours, including eyeshadow, face contour pigments, blusher and lip colours. Suitable for all skin tones, the pigments are sweatproof and waterproof. You can pick up this kit for around £8.99, meaning you will pay less than 18p per pigment.

More Makeup Tips Don't be slovenly when it comes to taking care of your make up. Look after it and it will look after you. OPINION
This topic is close to my heart, having finished 18 horrendous months of cancer treatment less than a year ago.
REGIME, Summer 2022 - 13
Belinda Bennett asks if 'cancer' beauty brands have gone too far
The standard phased approach to treating primary cancers has a huge, detrimental impact on the skin - particularly when it comes to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. At a time when hair loss can severely knock someone's self-confidence, making the most of the face can become a massive deal for cancer patients. So beauty products are an absolute necessity. As well as being a much-needed pick-me-up, gentle cleansers, tonics, serums, and moisturising creams help to look after the skin at a time when a person is at their most vulnerable - and likely to be wearing more makeup than usual. Nobody undergoing harsh systemic treatments wants to look how they feel. Dreadful.
Enter 'bespoke' beauty brands, offering products that marketing campaigns imply have been developed 'especially for cancer patients'.
14 - REGIME, Summer 2022
OPINION
According to Cancer Research UK, around 56,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer alone in the UK each year. Tens of thousands more are told they have other cancers. So the market is there for anyone inclined to exploit it.
Cancer Treatment Skin Issues Good skincare is vital during both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. While the first impacts the entire body, the latter usually only affects the area being treated. During chemotherapy, my skin became very thin and dry everywhere except my face. I had to be careful not to cut or graze myself and be especially vigilant around pets. A tear in the skin is a serious infection risk; one that can be life-threatening. I used gentle products, but nothing expensive. During radiotherapy, products containing certain ingredients - such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - are not advised. Unfortunately, they are so common you often have to really shop around to find something that is not infused with them. If treatment requires a bolus, extra care is likely to be required for quite some weeks after irradiation has finished because it specifically ensures the therapy targets the skin. (I'm still 'tanned' from it!) While not always easy to source, there are still moisturisers out there that are up to the job. E45 cream (not lotion) and Moogoo are just two. Where a beauty brand could make a real and positive difference to cancer patients' lives is with a cream specifically designed for radiotherapy. But they aren't doing that. They are going with anti-ageing products with fancy packaging and spa brand prices to match.
Who Are Beauty Brands Targeting? While they are targeting cancer patients directly, there is a huge emphasis on gift bundles and care packages - meaning friends and family of patients are being encouraged to buy too. The inference is that they will make someone they care about feel better. While I am not doubting that any gift is a welcome respite from the misery of cancer treatment, the prices being asked for them are extortionate - in some cases over £100. The brands know that friends and family are less likely to understand what products can and can't be used - whereas the patient would have been offered qualified advice and, quite likely, been given a free care package that contains almost everything they need. The 'big sell' for the brands is that their products are 'cancer products'.
OPINION
No, they are not; they are bog standard natural lotions and potions.
REGIME, Spring 2022 - 15
I stuck with gentle, organic products that cost next to nothing compared to 'cancer' skincare.
Brands are targeting a niche market with a very specific message and products in packaging designed for maximum appeal. I am afraid, they have got to offer more than mere eye candy to charge well over the odds and retain any kind of respect.
Cancer Makes People Worse Off
The swines!
People with cancer are often worse off during treatment. Many are not working and will have little to no disposable income. In fact, research conducted by Macmillan Cancer Support suggests that four out of five people affected by cancer are on average £570 a month worse off.
Patients Are Speaking Out
Imagine getting the message that, while you are worrying about things like hospital transport and asking yourself 'Is the treatment working?', you should be using this or that specific product on your face the area of the body least likely to be severely impacted.
I was prompted to write this article by a brave woman who spoke out against the cancer beauty industry and attracted an instant Mexican wave of support. She was commenting on a Facebook advert, saying the prices were extortionate and that it was not fair to target vulnerable people in that way. She, herself, was a cancer patient. In summary, I find it unacceptable that a woman undergoing cancer treatment should be considered a demographic for premium beauty marketing campaigns.

Supermodel Cindy Crawford once said: "Your body is so happy when you drink water." And she's right! Hydration is the be-all and end-all, if you want your skin to be plump and radiant-looking. So, how much water a day should you be drinking? Two litres is the recommended daily amount. However, if you are not a fan of tap water, bottled water or weak squash is just as good. If your skin is mature, showing signs of sun damage or you simply cannot drink enough water in a day, you need a good plumping serum and a moisturising cream. The best ingredients to look for include: Hyaluronic Acid Aloe Vera Plant Extract Glycerin Vitamins Essential oils
SKINCARE
How to hydrate your skin - even in the summer
Many serums containing hyaluronic acid also contain vitamins, which further support the skin. Look out for ones with Vitamins A, C and E. I recommend serums from German brand Satin Naturel, Wild Azur, Tree of Life, and PraNaturals. When it comes to moisturisers, choose a day formula that includes sun protection. SPF is now found in most top-brand creams, whips and fluids. NIVEA's Cellular Luminous 630 boasts an SPF of 50. Getting into a routine will help you to keep your skin hydrated. Keep products in a dedicated place and make sure they are accessible. Stay on top of your morning and night skincare routines. If you notice a product is running low, buy a replacement before it runs out. Time for a drink of water?
TANNING
Want to get bronzed up for summer, a holiday or special occasion? Don't fancy looking as though you're about to self-combust after being dipped in Bisto or want to avoid risks associated with sunbeds? A spray tan is your best bet.

Look like a bronzed goddess with these pro spray tan tips
Quick and affordable, you can achieve a custom sunkissed look that is safe and will last for days. But, before you strip off and step inside a tanning booth, you may want to get clued up first. Qualified spray tan artist Fern Brock says many people looking to achieve a fast golden glow are not aware of even the most basic safety and protocol requirements. "Anyone offering a spray tanning service should be qualified and insured. They should also carry out a patch test on clients 24 hours before the scheduled tan," she said.
"I know that many people don't want to wait or find the pre-tanning appointment a bit of a hassle, but it is really important. Tanning products cover most of the body during a spray and any reaction could be quite widespread.
TANNING
18 - REGIME, Summer 2022
"A patch test is also important to determine the correct shade of tan for each individual. "If you are not offered a patch test, go elsewhere."
Minimising Potential Problems Fern says anyone booking a tan for a special event should ideally choose a time a few days in advance. "Even professional tanning products take up to 48 hours to look their best. Before that, the colour can appear sallow or over-pigmented. So, if someone wants to look great, they should give the tan a day or two to settle." They should also tell the spray tan artist about any dry or broken skin, and discuss depth of colour options. "Managing people's expectations of a spray tan is important," she said. "For example, a tan will generally look good for around a week and then start to fade. It doesn't last as long as many people think." There are also 'dos' and 'don'ts' for the periods leading up to and straight after a tan.
Before A Spray Tan If you don't want to mess up your tan, here are Fern's top tips for preparing the skin: Don't shave or use any other form of hair removal system for at least 24 hours beforehand Avoid using solid soaps, high PH face and body wash products, and in-shower moisturisers immediately before a tan Do not wear make up Tie your hair up Exfoliate the skin 24 hours beforehand Do not wear deodorant Loose-fitting clothes that are dark in colour are a must - to avoid stains
Take a pair of sandals or flip flops with you to wear home - so the tanning solution does not rub off in shoes Fern says some common toiletry products can stop tan solutions from penetrating the skin and developing. "For an even tan, it is best to prepare the body a day or two before the spray," she added. "Exfoliation is really important as it removes dead skin cells and any dry, rough patches."
After A Spray Tan You should be advised not to wash for a period that may exceed 12 hours. Avoid baths, showers, swimming pools, hot tubs... You get the gist. Don't use harsh products on your skin, Keep the skin hydrated by moisturising several times a day Use a PH balanced body wash or soap

Live a little... Try out our summer makeup tips
Makeup trends change with the season and, accordingly, so should your look. Capturing the spirit of sun-drenched, carefree, lazy days requires attention to not just colours but detail. Bond girl Bo Derek summed up the beach babe look in the '70s when set the trend for braids. But makeup - and styles - have moved on a lot since then Haven't got the time to faff about with eyeliners, false eyelashes and fake tan? Here are some simple ways to instantly switch up your look for summer.
Glow Like A Goddess If your skin is on the pale side after winter and you haven't got the time nor inclination to get a spray tan, a simple bronzer will do the trick on your face. Choose a liquid or cream format to give your skin a super-dewy finish.
MAKEUP
20 - REGIME, Summer 2022
If you only have powdered bronzer to hand, don't forget to moisturise and prime your skin first - and use a setting spry after. Build up your bronzed look gradually, so you don't end up feeling like you've been dipped in gravy powder. Add a dab of highlighter to your upper cheeks to finish the off your summer makeup look. Be careful not to apply too much. Just a small amount of shimmer is all you need.
Swap Dull For Vibrant If you are used to blending two or three shades of eyeshadow to create depth or texture, summer is the time to just go for allout, but simple, bold. Exchange nude pigments for a single vibrant shade. No need for blending or colour-matching. Sweep the colour across your lid and slightly above the crease line. Finish off the look by using the same pigment along your lower lash line. With a few coats of mascara, you are ready to go. This is the time of year when you can get away with bright blue, green and purple pigments. Try experimenting and see what you think.
Time For Lips To Shine Lip gloss is an absolute 'must' during the summer. You can either apply a clear gloss over a lipstick, use it on its own or invest in some new shades. There's nothing like a pop of colour on your lips to bring a look together. Don't be afraid to use a gloss with shimmer. Consider a shimmer bomb or lip gloss crayon for easy, onthe-go application. When choosing a shade, think of coral and peach tones. Save the reds for evenings.
Finishing Touches If you want to go all-out for a summer look, consider adding some glitter to your face. A small amount applied to the top of the cheekbone or eyes can elevate a so-so look to 'Wow'.
MAKEUP
Summer Makeup Don'ts When it's hot outside, the last thing you want is for your makeup to run. Keep your look simple so it can be touched up quickly. Avoid: Heavy black eyeliner - try a sapphire blue or green instead Mascara that isn't waterproof Too much powder - it will allow the sun to highlight every line or blemish on your face. Dark or nude shades of eyeshadow - save those for winter Not yet sure what your summer makeup ideas will look like? Try experimenting and invest in some new products to give yourself a little nudge. Splash some colour on your face this summer - and enjoy a true festival-style season.

Having mature skin, I am not truly convinced that a flick at the sides of my eyes would be all that flattering. Maybe, it's the everincreasing crinkles that are holding me back. Either way, I am going to persevere because it is the look all makeup addicts feel they have to master.
The History Of The Cat Eye Eyeliner has not always been used to make a beauty statement. In ancient times, the Egyptians used it to ward off evil. Talismans or charms depicting the evil eye are still popular today in art but, centuries ago, the symbol represented a perceived curse. Black makeup was used around the eyes to ward the bad omen off. Great figures from history, such as Cleopatra VII, are known to have worn heavy eye makeup possibly for that very reason. Kohl, still widely used in makeup today, was developed during her reign and commonly utilised in the Middle East. In terms of modern fashion, the cat eye did not take off until liquid eyeliner was brought to the market by major cosmetic brands 70 years ago. Screen siren Brigitte Bardot is still remembered for her early adoption of the style.

Moisturising gel has come to prominence in the UK skincare market, propelled by premium brands such as Clinique and Lancome. Cheaper alternatives, produced for the mid to low-budget beauty consumer, include many versions of plant-based water gels, especially those with aloe vera, watermelon and grapefruit extract.

The rise and rise of moisturising gel
If you are yet to try one, let me fill you in... Widely touted as a summer moisturiser or, because of its high H20 content, best-suited to those with oily or combination skin, it has actually amassed universal appeal - all-year round. You can pick up a jar for under a tenner, if you don't want to splash out on Clinique's highly-rated Moisture Surge or Lacombe's hybrid gel/cream Hydra Zen.
Differences Between Gel And Cream The hydrating gel differs from a cream on a number of fronts, but the big difference is that a gel is water-based. On the next page, you will find some of the main characteristics of each, so you can compare.

Gel Aqueous base Lightweight Non-greasy Soothing Antioxidant Usually contains organic skincare heroes such as vitamins and hyaluronic acid Cooling/refreshing on the skin Cream Rich consistency UVA protection Sometimes oily Heavier than a gel Contains skin balms Can contain fats Smoothing May contain ceramides and vitamins Holds moisture in the skin by forming a barrier While both products are beneficial to skin, it is generally considered best to use a gel for an instant burst of cooling hydration.
The Best Thing About Moisturising Gel
A cream, on the other hand, will treat even very dry skin - mainly because it contains emollients and oils.
I use a watermelon moisturising gel every day. As well as giving my skin a healthy glow, it delivers an experience. And it's this experience that makes a gel so different, as far as I'm concerned.
Many skincare experts have suggested moisturising creams are most suited for winter use, offering good protection for skin chapped by biting cold and windy weather. But, I disagree. I think it comes down to preference; some people will always use a cream, no matter the season, while others may stick with a gel or use a combination of both.
It feels like a watery serum but is oh-so refreshing. You literally feel as though your skin has been totally saturated - drenched - in goodness. I cannot get enough of it. Although I mostly use it at night, after the application of a vitamin C serum, some people will use a gel as a makeup primer. I'm going to try this because, I have to be honest, the gel I use is a bit sticky. I have to wash my hands after applying.

The coolness, the texture, the sensation of freshness, the blast of hydration... That's what really sets a gel apart from a cream. If you don't believe me, why not give it a try?

The modern version of foundation can find its roots in greasepaint, first developed for a theatre in Germany and later perfected by Max Factor, the legendary makeup artist, in 1914.
Benefits And Coverage With a good skincare routine, foundation makeup that includes SPF and hyaluronic acid, such as L'Oréal Paris True Match Liquid Foundation, can protect the face from sun damage and delay the onset of fine lines or wrinkles. Some products deliver other benefits that further support anti-ageing. In addition, makeup primers, worn underneath foundation, can now be found with ceramides, moisturisers and vitamins. Most foundations have either neutral, warm, cool or olive bases to match the majority of skin tones. Over the past 10 years, the number of shades available has grown enormously and continues to expand. It is much easier now to find a close match to your natural skin colour than it was even three years ago. Makeup Revolution's Conceal & Define Foundation, for example, is available in a staggering 49 shades and counting! Along with an increase in colour choices, today's foundations come in a range coverage strengths. The four staples are full, medium, light and sheer. Most foundations offer 'buildable' coverage, giving you the option to turn a medium product into a full coverage version. Some foundations are so long-wearing they can stay put all day and night, especially if set with a spray after application. With the expansion of the market has come some innovative new tools such as beauty blenders and better designed makeup brushes.

I've had my fair share of makeup disasters - from smudged mascara to much worse, writes Belinda Bennett.

How a classic tool can improve your looks
If you have ever found crusty liner in the corner of your eyes, loaded up your eyeshadow brush a tad too enthusiastically or applied a foundation that manages to highlight every flaw on your face, join the club! It's time for a magnifying mirror. In my 30s, I was the chief reporter of a weekly newspaper in Somerset. I was still fairly young then and slapped my war paint on in the mornings without a care in the world. I looked great - not. The first time I ventured into the newsroom bathroom, I got an almighty shock. It was furnished with an unkind lightbulb that managed throw a spotlight on every pore, all my patches of dry skin and eyeliner that appeared to 'bleed' into the fine lines under my eyes. Not a pretty sight.
Even then, being confronted with the ugly truth, I told myself it was 'just a trick of the light'. Nobody would get that close to see all that flaky skin, the blackheads or slapdash eye makeup.

You tell yourself that, don't you? 'It's just that particular light' or 'I'm being too critical of myself'. Problem is, a mirror rarely lies - unless your eyesight is on the turn. Which brings me to...
Magnifying Mirrors Because I'm an eyeshadow addict and because I've got more palettes than some branches of Boots, I'm not short of a mirror or 300! Most eye or face palettes contain mirrors these days but, generally, they are just... plain old mirrors. Yes, you can hold them close to your face when performing what you think is a stroke of genius with a fluffy brush but they are never going to zoom in on the detail. And with makeup, especially on the eyes, detail is everything. In fact, beauty brands should consider introducing magnified mirrors to pro palettes as standard. It would make life a whole lot easier. My first magnifying mirror, I bought by accident. It came as a secondary piece of equipment with a light-up, tri-fold dressing table ensemble. I'd always fancied sitting in front of theatre dressing room-type lighting. Truth be told, the lights framing the looking glasses were for 'display purposes only'. They looked great as a lighting feature in the bedroom at night, but were pretty darned useless when it came to anything else especially makeup application! Its saving grace? A stick-on magnifying mirror with a magnification of x 10. It changed my face!
What Mirror Magnification To Choose? I am still using that little mirror. It has served me well. It has aided my approach to skincare, highlighting any concern that needs to be addressed, and given me new-found confidence when it comes to experimenting with pigments. I am sat here right now wearing the full 'heatwave' eyeshadow look - no mean feat to achieve with a bog standard mirror, if I'm being honest. Because of that mirror, I have been able to develop a custom style and feel assured in my own skin. What's more, when I write a review for a product I know that I'm telling the full, unvarnished truth. When it comes to magnification,10x is right for me. I've been using computers since they were first invented (shhh!); I've penned tens of thousands of newspaper stories on them and typed at least a dozen truly dreadful novels.
32 - REGIME, Summer 2022
If you are young, with no history of sight issues, a 2x or 3x magnification strength is probably all you need. For the more mature beauty conscious, strengths of 7x, 10x and even 20x are likely to be required.
How To Choose A Makeup Mirror There's no getting away from it, especially when purse strings are currently squeezed like never before, budget is everything. The good news is that there are options available in all price ranges. Even the highest strength mirrors, in good sizes and on stands, can retails for as little as 20 quid. In general, if you shop around, you'll find the following mirrors reasonably priced: Tri 2x, 3x and 10x - £15 Set of 10x and 15x - £12 7x - £10 3x - £10 If you would like help to find a mirror you can afford, I offer a completely free product finding service. MAKEUP
It's bright, it's bold and, let's face it, it's not for everyone. But, thanks to top fashion designers, neon makeup is where it is at this summer.
REGIME, Summer 2022 - 33
Go beyond bold with neon makeup
You may find the prospect of wearing anything neon a fashion statement too far. Versace is to thank - or blame - for this year's top catwalk look. Neon eyeshadow was heavily featured in the fashion house's summer 2022 collection when it was unveiled in Milan. Others have been quick to follow suit. While focused on shimmering, bright colours, if you really want to be where it is at why not try florescent makeup? You'll be bright by day and positively glowing at night! This type of makeup is great for creators and those who like to try something different. Perhaps, though, for most of us, it's just that little bit too way out. We've put together a picture gallery to inspire you on page 34.
Not a fan of neon? Never mind... The other big trend for this summer is the '80s look - so dig out your padded shoulders and eyeliner, and get ready to turn back the clock. Don't want to look like your are in a carnival? Be a New Romantic instead!

A little bit about REGIME magazine
Before you go, we would like to tell you a little bit about the magazine and what its purpose is - in case you haven't guessed! Launched in the Spring of 2022, it is another way for Regime Skin Care to share its original content. Some of the features in the Summer edition have been repurposed from our blog and some of them have been especially written for the magazine. Regime Skin Care is first and foremost a beauty blog. While its social channels can earn commission on certain products, this is not to make a profit but to cover the costs associated with running the website. This magazine is affiliate-free, and we are more than happy to feature handmade and small brands who are in the skincare or make-up business.
If you would like your products to appear in the Autumn edition, please reach out to us via our online contact form. Once again, thank you for reading the magazine. We will be back before September with a brand new edition. In the meantime, why not check out our blog?
