This means a far better looking and working kitchen or bedroom.” Established in 1985, DC Interiors – which has showrooms in Maltby and Edenthorpe – have built up a strong reputation over the years, with much custom coming from word-of-mouth recommendations. DC Interiors has now fitted over 10,000 kitchens, bedrooms and studies, all uniquely designed and produced in their own factory. TRENDS
What’s in store for 2019? NEW YEAR, NEW YOU, NEW TRENDS. 2019 IS IN FULL-SWING NOW, AND WITH IT COMES BRAND NEW FASHIONS, FITNESS REGIMES, DREAM HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS AND PROPERTY PRICES. TO BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU, HERE’S WHAT’S COMING UP IN 2019. BY MOLLY FAWCETT.
Fitness & Diet A new year always brings promises of losing weight, eating healthier and exercising more. In 2019, we’re getting brand new diets and workouts to try. Maybe these will make our new year’s resolutions much easier to keep. One diet that became widely used last year was the ketogenic diet – in which all carbs, grains and sugar were banned in favour of vegetables, animal fat and meat. However, a plant-based, eco-conscious version is set to be more popular, with the animal produce being abandoned. This way dieters can help save the planet, as well as feel healthier themselves. If you’re looking for a more fun way to get fit, there’s a new, exciting workout for 2019. Spin studios have been rising in popularity for years, but now we’re moving onto glamourous studios dedicated to rowing rather than cycling. This trend takes rowing from a simple warm-up to standalone workout, with some classes being held to loud, classical music. Working out doesn’t get more unique than that. Alongside diets and exercise regimes, a whole new range of fitness tech is coming our way. Wearable trackers that monitor steps, workouts and sleep schedules are wellloved but notoriously unfashionable. The solution to that is smart jewellery – trackers that double as stylish accessorises, with high-end designers like Swarovski and Michael Kors even creating their own. So now you can manage your stress levels while looking good – what’s not to love?
Fashion It may be too early to ditch the woolly jumpers, but it’s never too early to start preparing your wardrobe for the year ahead. 2019 will see the confident ones among us thrive, and give the fashion-shy ones a chance to break out of their shells. Bold, bright colours are set to be next year’s big trend, with colour blocking, tie-dye and vibrant, neon tones gracing the most prestigious catwalks. Men’s fashion especially is full of out-there colours and prints, whereas women are predicted to stand-out with statement trainers and oversized hats. J by Jasper Conran If loud, brave colours aren’t your thing, fear not. Sequins and the westernskirt £75, jumper £45. www.debenhams.com inspired trend of fringing are set to be popular this year too, alongside big accessories like oval sunglasses and tortoise earrings. There’s also a calmer side to 2019’s fashion trends. More and more people are opting for comfort and utility, with functional clothes on the rise. Six-inch heels are being replaced by flats, and skirts are getting tossed aside for knee-length, boyish shorts. And now more than ever, there’s a growing interest in knowing how clothes are made, leading to a growth in recycled, sustainable fashion – especially in the swimwear sector. So rather than buying a regular swimsuit for your holiday this year, look out for an eco-friendly option instead.

TRENDS
Holiday Hot Spots
Property Thanks to Brexit, no-one really knows what’s going to happen to the property market in 2019. Despite this, many experts are predicting that house prices will rise in the new year. It’s good news for homeowners in the north. Throughout 2018, house prices here have been rising by almost five per cent, and this is set to increase over 2019. First-time buyers are in luck too, as they will still be eligible for stamp duty tax relief. However, many homeowners are reluctant to put their properties on the market due to the infamous Brexit negotiations. According to Good Move, a Brexit deal could see prices go up by one per cent, but make houses even more unaffordable. And no deal at all could see the property market stall. Looks like we’ll just have to play the waiting game.
The months following the celebratory Christmas season are often a bit lacklustre. So what better way to cheer yourself up than booking your summer holiday. In 2019 you can travel as far as New Zealand and Canada, or stay in Europe visiting Greece and Bulgaria (home to Plovdiv, the 2019 European capital of culture). One of the biggest holiday locations for 2019 is Japan. This year they’ll be hosting the Rugby World Cup, with venues spread out across the country, before preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Osaka in particular will gain popularity, with British Airways launching direct flights from the UK in spring. There are plenty of attractions too – from the National Museum of Art to Universal Studios, which is just as popular as those in Hollywood and Orlando, USA. You can also fly directly to Australia on a 17-hour flight, and experts are predicting that this’ll make Perth a go-to destination. Perth has something for everyone, from foodies who love trying independent cafes and restaurants, to sight-seers who prefer the cultural trips, such as a visit to the annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition held in March. For travellers who don’t want to stray so far from home, Arles in France is the perfect option, especially for art-lovers. Arles’ ‘Yellow House’ was home to Vincent Van Gogh for over a year, and now the city is set to become an important art destination for Europe. A major new arts venue is being created, whereas the Roman amphitheatre is hosting cultural events.

AFTER 44 YEARS IN BUSINESS, FAMILY-RUN SHEFFIELD WINDOW CENTRE CONTINUES TO MOVE WITH THE TIMES.
SWC do more than just windows. They offer an expert stained glass service, fascias and soffits, as well as high-quality doors and conservatories
Leading from the front t was back in 1975, when Rubik’s Cubes were all the rage and Bohemian Rhapsody topped the charts, that Sheffield Window Centre (SWC) was founded. Fast-forward 44 years and Ian Hunter, who took over the running of SWC in the early eighties, is managing director... and with his four children involved, this is a true family business. As the decades have rolled by, generations of Sheffield folk have found SWC to be the most reliable name they look for. SWC was the first Sheffield business to be given Trusted Trader status by Which? and they are former winners of the UK’s “Installer of the Year” at the G Awards – the most prestigious awards in the UK window industry. Of course, there have been big changes since 1975. SWC has stayed at the very top by investing in key personnel to meet the ever-increasing demand for high quality products, new machinery, adopting green policies, and constantly researching methods of production to
I
provide the most up-to-date levels of security and thermal efficiency. And the Rockingham Street showroom has undergone substantial renovations – introducing an exciting new product display. The one thing that hasn’t changed, though, is their “old fashioned” approach to selling. SWC is renowned for its ‘no pressure policy’. Whether it be price, product or service, they can’t be beaten, and that’s the reason they never need to push or pester. The company, which has premises on Oakbrook Road, Broad Lane, Scotland Street and Rockingham Street, uses top brand REHAU – a market leader in polymer extrusion – for all their installations. Their multi-chambered profile uPVC doesn’t warp or discolour, and if you’re worried you won’t be able to get a frame to match your desired colour or design, don’t be. Good-looking windows are no good if you can still feel the chill – but thanks to SWC, you won’t feel a thing. Their standard windows have energy efficiency ratings of A, while their double-glazed units are made from Pilkington’s KS glass, are argon filled and incorporate a warm edge spacer bar to retain heat. It’s not just about staying cosy, though – perhaps the most important thing you want from a window is to know it’s secure. SWC’s windows are fitted with a multi-point shoot bolt locking mechanism – the best there is.
SWC were crowned ‘Installer of the Year’ at the G Awards
Don’t be misled by the name – SWC do more than just windows. They offer an expert stained glass service, fascias and soffits, as well as high-quality doors and conservatories, suitable for year round use. Offering a wide range of benefits including thermal insulation with solar control, glare reduction, enhanced sound insulation and self-cleaning properties. The company can also install underfloor heating and laminated floors, as well as taking care of the building, plastering and electrical work, so you only deal with one point of contact throughout the entire process. And that’s not all – SWC is also applying its expertise to making a difference in the local community. Supporting a number of worthy causes, including Rain Rescue, a Rotherhambased rescue centre helping pets in true crisis. Sheffield Window Centre have a soft spot for abandoned pets – several staff and family members have adopted dogs from Rain Rescue – and as a company they have donated windows and doors to keep the charity’s animals warm and secure. They also donated a conservatory from the showroom, which was auctioned and raised £1,700. Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones meets the team from Edwards and Walker
Clear winner
OFFERING QUALITY CARE AND A FABULOUS RANGE OF PRODUCTS, AWARD-WINNING EDWARDS AND WALKER IS THE PERFECT FAMILY-FRIENDLY OPTICIANS’ PRACTICE. he gift of sight is a precious commodity... and something that Optometrist Pretty Basra has always felt passionate about. Ms Basra BSc (Hons) MPhil (Pretty for short) knew from an early age what she wanted to be, and much hard work and dedication has led her, since 2015, to Edwards and Walker Opticians, a wellknown practice that has been established in the heart of Doncaster on Priory Place for the last 40 years. It’s been quite a journey for Pretty, who moved to Doncaster eight years ago upon meeting her husband and has really settled in to the area after an exciting and eventful start to her career. She has a passion for helping others – especially children – and this is rooted in her own personal experiences. She suffered poor vision as a child and her parents never took it seriously, although luckily the problem was corrected before it could affect her future too much. This experience has been the driving force behind her career ever since, particularly in children’s vision. She is working towards completing her Doctorate in Children’s Vision Screening this year and is already considered a specialist in this field. This ambitious young woman passed her optometry exams and embarked on an exciting first phase of her career at
T
Leicester Royal Infirmary and then at the prestigious Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. She has supervised undergraduate optometry students at Bradford University and also completed Vision Aid Overseas trips to developing world countries, teaching students in Africa and providing eye care to local communities in Botswana and Zambia. Now married with two young boys aged four and one, Pretty has put down roots in Doncaster, loves the area and is excited about new investment in the town. She is really keen to support local, independent shopping. She is gradually putting her own stamp on Edwards and Walker too and is determined to keep the family-friendly feel while bringing a modern touch, going above and beyond the call of duty, always looking for new innovations and ways to improve the patient experience. And after a challenging start when Pretty had to win over patients who might have been taken aback by her youth, she is now building a solid reputation in her own right. She was a finalist in the 2017 National Optician Awards in the Optician of the Year category – effectively acknowledging that she is one of the best five Optometrists in the UK. Meanwhile the practice was a finalist at the same awards last year in the Family Practice of the Year category –
another national top five placing. They have also recently been shortlisted for Independent Business of the Year and for their level of Customer Service by the Yorkshire Choice Awards, recognising excellence in the local area. The award will be decided by the public vote, which closes on 1 March 2019. As well as providing outstanding medical care, the team at Edwards and Walker is bringing in new brands all the time, many of which are exclusive to Doncaster, such as Chopard, Face a Face and Porsche. They were the first opticians in Doncaster to stock Tom Ford and remain the main retailer in the area. And if you really want your eyewear to stand out from the crowd, Edwards and Walker are sole stockists in the local area of Mulberry’s first ever optical collection. They have also just launched their own bespoke range of frames, again exclusive to Doncaster, which pay homage to the town’s history. Offering the best possible care and a fabulous range of products, Edwards and Walker is the perfect family-friendly opticians’ practice for people from all walks of life. LET G&M HEALTH CARE WITH ALEVERE TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE AND YOUR BODY. dread to think where I would be now if I had not started the Alevere programme when I did. I was deteriorating fast as a person.” James Jayawardena’s weight loss difficulties started in April 2016 when his GP diagnosed him with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and prediabetes. “Something had to give as my weight had really started to creep up over the last few years, and, at 22-and-a-half stone, I was starting to become increasingly aware that if I did not do anything about it I was exposing myself to potentially irreversible and serious health implications.” James was worried that his demanding lifestyle would mean it was impossible for him to lose weight, however, as soon as he started on the Alevere programme he was convinced that the team at G&M Healthcare could help him. “My initial concerns were about being hungry, as I ate quite large portions and would often graze during the day. I worked out that I was eating 600/700 calories between meals and I was really worried; I didn’t need to be. “I was apprehensive going into the programme, but once you’re in, the staff walk you through everything, and you feel at ease straight away.” Alevere quickly taught James that losing weight is about understanding food and the effects of various ingredients in food – ensuring you don’t deprive yourself but you take a regular, balanced approach. “I began Alevere with an open mind and the thing that I found most refreshing was that the programme was not about dieting but about making permanent adjustments to my lifestyle.
“ I

“I started losing weight very quickly, it was like an overnight transformation. My clothes started to feel too big and people started to notice too, you don’t get any more motivational than that. “Losing weight does not mean giving up everything you enjoy eating. In fact, the pleasure of eating something ‘unhealthy’ is better when it becomes an occasional treat, rather than a regular and ignored part of your diet.” After three months on the programme James had lost almost seven stone, and was starting to feel much more confident again, and has since continued his weight-loss journey. “I was losing 3kg every week, so it was great to get on the scales and realise how much I had lost overall – and that made me want to carry on. I liked the routine of the programme and the big weekly weight loss was a great motivation, I became very focused. “With good planning and listening the programme is adaptable, I wouldn’t say it was easy, it took willpower, but I didn’t feel hungry and my energy levels were noticeably higher to myself and others. “Alevere isn’t a diet, because it changes your philosophy completely. It teaches you to eat normal but healthy food, and retrains you on how you should eat. “The programme is now part of my daily life without me being obsessed with it and by what I can and can’t be eating.
I have changed how I eat for good – I eat regularly and I still have what I want, but I don’t snack all the time.” James has discovered a whole new way of life, and, though he knows there is no magic wand to losing weight, he has seen that with help and support it is achievable. “Alevere has totally changed my life. People always comment that I am now a completely different person and approach things in a different way. “Grace, Sarah and all the staff, therapists and nutritionists are extremely knowledgeable and there’s always as line of communication and support available and you feel like part of a little community. “I firmly believe in Alevere and want others to see how it has worked for me. If I had one regret it would be that I did not start the programme sooner.” G&M Healthcare 5 Broomfield Road, Broomhill, Sheffield, S10 2SE Tel: 0114 268 6128 www.gandmhealthcare.com

Jessica gets a lift from the groomsmen
Perfect day JESSICA AND WAYNE EVANS GOT THE WEDDING THEY ALWAYS DREAMED OF AT BAWTRY HALL. obody ever said that planning a wedding would be easy. In fact, it’s often described as one of the most stressful life events we’ll ever experience, so imagine the pleasant surprise had by Jessica Arnold when, with the help of the team at Bawtry Hall, becoming Jessica Evans was actually one of the easiest days of her life. “When you book a wedding, you hope it’s going to be everything you’ve dreamed of, and it was,” says Jessica. “I didn’t quite think that it would all come together and be so perfect, and I was worried about everything you could be worried about, but in the end it was more than I could have ever imagined.” Jessica met now-husband Wayne 11 years ago through friends, and after their engagement in August 2017, it didn’t take them long to decide where they wanted to tie the knot. “We didn’t really think about or look at any other venues apart from Bawtry

Hall. It was exclusive and new, and it’s nice to be able to get married somewhere none of your guests have been before.” Wayne and Jessica’s wedding package was tailored to fit them and their needs, and they couldn’t have asked for more when it came to the help they received from the team at Bawtry Hall along the way. “They were amazing, they gave me advice on how things would flow throughout the day, what timeframe they’d give me for guests to be arriving and going into the ceremony room, when we should put the buffet on and things like that.” And the buffet exceeded all expectations. “We had the artisan buffet and the food was absolutely amazing. It was so beautiful. It was really good quality food, everybody enjoyed it, there really wasn’t one person there who didn’t.”

The team at Bawtry Hall were able to suggest things that Jessica and Wayne hadn’t even considered, but looking back, wouldn’t have been able to cope without. “They suggested that I book Les, the master of ceremonies. I had a high number of guests so without him, it would have been difficult to get everyone to where they needed to be. He was included in the package and I didn’t even think about anything like that as I’d never been to a wedding where they’d had this so it was great. We needed him.” And Les was there to usher everyone together to watch the couple’s first dance, and despite the wedding’s October 2018 date, there was surprisingly no Ed Sheeran to be heard, with only one song in the running to mark this special moment – Barrington Levy’s ‘Only You’. “It’s what we like. We weren’t doing it for anybody else, just us.” And their choice in music certainly didn’t disappoint their guests. “I definitely put too many tables in the venue. I’ve been to so many weddings where people don’t get up and dance, but it was probably only five per cent of people that were sat down, everybody else was up and having a good time.” That’s not any mean feat either, given the couple’s extensive guest list. “I think I invited about 320 knowing that some wouldn’t come. Between 200-

250 turned up, but I definitely didn’t feel squashed.” There was no time for any guest to stand idly by either, with entertainment for everyone from start to finish in the shape of a photo booth from The Picture House Company, music from Cat on Sax and Magic Faces kids entertainment. With so much going on, any bride or groom would be forgiven for being a little stressed out. Jessica and Wayne were able to make the most of the day though, following a relaxing night spent at The Crown Hotel before the big day. “They really looked after us. We had a
fancy bottle of Champagne sent up from the owner and we had food sent up to the room, it was lovely.” “I would 100 per cent recommend Bawtry Hall and The Crown. I still want to say a big thank you to all the staff, especially Libby for helping me put it all together.” Jessica admits that even with all the help from the team at Bawtry Hall and with her own ideas, there were others that helped make the day as memorable as it was. “I do bridal make up so I know people through wedding fairs and know who to trust. I’d love to say thank you to my photographer, Alexis Stevenson; my stylist Emma, from Inspired by Me and Maureen, from Blessed Brides.” Having had such a beautiful day, it might seem difficult to pinpoint a favourite part, but for Jessica there was one thing that has, and will always stand out for her. “The ceremony. For us, it was just the getting married part. That was the main thing, but then to actually manage to get the fairytale wedding you’ve always wished for, that was amazing.” To find out more about Bawtry Hall’s wedding packages, visit www.bawtryhall.co.uk or call a member of the team on 01302 710341. WEDDINGS
Give your guests plenty of notice No matter what time of year you decide to walk down the aisle, you’ll need to make sure your save the dates are sent out well ahead of time to make sure all your nearest and dearest can be in attendance. If you’re planning a winter wedding around the festive period, many people may already have family or work commitments. If you’re planning a sunny summer do, there’s a chance people will be jetting off on their holidays. By catching your guests early, not only will the likelihood of their availability be greater, but you’ll also have a better idea of numbers – which will help in more ways than one as the planning continues.
Don’t worry about the weather Bawtry Hall’s wedding planner Libby says: “The biggest piece of advice I can give is not to stress out over the elements of your big day that you have no control over! If it’s going to rain or snow – it will.” Libby insists that there’s no point worrying, “instead, have a plan in case it looks like it’s going to rain or snow – have wellies and brollies to match the theme. It’ll make for amazing photos (should it happen).”

Mum’s the word
The last thing you want after months of planning and shelling out your hardearned cash is for something to go wrong or for someone to pull out at the last minute. There are plenty of insurance providers who’ll cover you if your big day is affected by bad weather, flaky suppliers or even if your wedding car breaks down. Fingers crossed you’ll never need to make a claim, but even just for peace of mind, wedding insurance should be at the top of your to do list.
As much as you might try to fight it, your big day will be just as important to your parents as it will be to you. While many fathers will be more than happy to put on any old suit and make the most of the bar on your wedding day, when it comes to the mother of the bride or groom, she’ll likely be putting almost as much thought into her outfit as the bride has done with her dress. You may still have a long list of things you need to get done, but taking the time to help your mother find her perfect wedding day ensemble will mean more to her than you might think. Sarah from Tiffany in Doncaster shares her three top tips for choosing a mother of the bride or groom outfit:

VALENTINES
Dates with a difference ARE YOU A TRADITIONALIST OR DO YOU PREFER SOMETHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. FROM DINNER FOR TWO TO WANTING TO GET AWAY FROM EACH OTHER(!), WE LOOK AT THE ALTERNATIVE WAYS YOU COULD SPEND VALENTINE’S.
Traditional Cook your loved one a romantic meal with the help of Edwins Herb stuffed Pork Loin wrapped in prosciutto, with spring greens, baby new potatoes and a Dijon and Cider Jus Serves 6 Ingredients 200g sausage meat 1 bunch fresh parsley 4 sprigs thyme 4 sprigs rosemary 5g salt 1.5kg pork loin 1 packet prosciutto 20g olive oil 200ml cider 20ml cider vinegar 200ml stock 150g Dijon mustard 150g spring greens / sprouting broccoli 300g baby new potatoes 100g butter 46 Eastside | www.eastsidemag.co.uk
Method 1. First make the stuffing by mixing the sausage meat and the herbs and leave to rest. 2. Next take the pork fillet and trim away any fat, slice down the middle of the fillet to open. Open the fillet and lightly hit with a rolling pin to flatten slightly. 3. Place the stuffing in the middle like a large sausage and wrap the pork fillet around the stuffing. 4. Lay out the prosciutto so it’s just touching, place the pork in the middle and wrap the ham around the pork tightly. 5. Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry
the pork until crisp. Place the pork fillet in the oven until cooked through. This should take about 30 minutes depending on the size of the pork fillet. 6. To make the sauce boil the cider, cider vinegar and stock in a pan until reduced by half, reduce the heat and add the mustard and stir. 7. Boil or steam the spring greens and potatoes until cooked. 8. Toss the cooked potatoes in butter and serve. Edwins 7 High Street, Hatfield, DN7 6RS Tel: 01302 430275 www.edwinsofhatfield.co.uk

All our recent award winners have been superb, so expectations are high. Eastside readers… get involved Just like last year we want you to join us in making sure our final verdict is a true reflection of what paying customers across the region really think. Eastside’s team of reviewers will be out and about over the next six months, 52 Eastside | www.eastsidemag.co.uk
checking out established and new restaurants, and searching for the best the region has to offer. We will bring our own opinions to bear of course, but we also know Eastside readers are a discerning bunch who travel the region to experience the best restaurants, bistros and gastro pubs. That’s why we now give our readers a bigger say. After we have done the rounds of the region’s finest eateries we’ll be publishing our shortlist of the best restaurants in all categories, from best pub to best contemporary. Once the shortlists are revealed, we’ll be asking our readers to have their say on the best in each category. We’ll add up the reader votes, put them with our judges’ own views and come up with the best of the best. Sounds a bit like how the voting works on Strictly Come Dancing, doesn’t it? OK, this is Eastside’s version…Strictly Come Dining! That comes later in the year… we’ll be publishing our shortlists in the September issue of Eastside.

Whether you select your favourite local cafe, a much-loved Indian or Italian restaurant or any other type of food venue, all votes are equal. All entries must include a home address and contact details, any multiple entries from the same email address will be disqualified. Closing date: Friday 30 August.
Sponsorship packages: Find out about our sponsorship packages available to impartial businesses (i.e not restaurants) to sponsor one of the awards and marketing opportunities. Email Terri Moore terri.moore@rmcmedia.co.uk for further details.
We also want to give Eastside readers a voice on the independent judging panel that decides the ultimate prize – the Eastside Restaurant of the Year. The search is on to find one reader to join with our other judges, all chosen for their knowledge of food and their passion for dining out on the Eastside scene, to eat together at the three venues that are shortlisted for the Eastside Restaurant of the Year. You can leave your credit cards at home; all we want is your opinions. And you will need to clear your diary for a few dates later this year when we bring the judges together to dine out and make their choices. Does this opportunity tickle your taste buds? To apply for a place on our judging panel, please email the managing editor, Chris Wilson, at chris.wilson@rmcmedia. co.uk and tell him in no more than 150 words what qualities you think the judges should be looking out for in the search for Eastside’s Restaurant of the Year. Festive thanks The Crown Hotel was feeling festive – and charitable – in December, hosting a Christmas jumper day to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. They were also a drop-off point for Hallam FM ‘Mission Christmas’ – they would like to thank all who dropped presents in for under privileged children in South Yorkshire.

Christmas mission On Christmas Day 2018, one local resident – Sam Sides – organised a Christmas Dinner at Bawtry MSG for anyone in the community to attend who would be alone at Christmas. She said: “From offering a seat at my home to someone who was going to be on their own on Christmas Day to running with an idea to do this for anyone… I didn’t want to say no to anyone else that phoned me.” Sam put out the invitation far and wide – not knowing how she was going to do it or where. Once the call for help had gone out, she was inundated with phonecalls and message offering support. “Within 48 hours I had been offered a venue to hold the dinner by Bawtry MSG free of charge. As more people put their name down, I started to panic about the food hygiene and where to cook it. To my relief, the lovely Bronwyn and Phil from Jayster’s Catering of Bawtry contacted me and offered to cook all the food! Before I knew it, I had a venue that could seat 72 and a caterer willing to cook the dinner!” Soon, small business owners from Bawtry and the surrounding areas started showing their support and wanting to donate. Food, drink and decorations were donated by: Farmhouse Choice, Rod & Reel, Slimming World Bawtry, Mooreish Delights, Cherry Blossom Cake, Pink Peppercorn Cakes, Sensations Indulge your Senses, Finishing Touches, Bawtry Natural Health & Therapy, Bawtry Accountants, St Nicholas Church & Cherish, Bawtry Community Church, Manor Farm Jersey Milk, Yorkshire Caravans of Bawtry, Tasting Notes and King William Inn. Sam also received monetary donations from Meliora (£200), David R Boyne property solutions (£200) and J.S Automek Ltd (£80). Local residents donated everything else that was needed to make the day complete, including gifts and personalised cards. Bawtry MSG is already booked for 25/12/19 – so who’s ready to do it all again?

SEVEN-SEAT PRACTICALITY ALSO BRINGS AN ELEMENT OF FUN IN THIS MONTH’S ROUND-UP. BY JORDAN CUTFORTH.
SEAT SUV flagship If the Skoda Kodiaq is not your cup of tea then SEAT has a great alternative – the Tarraco. The Tarraco sits above the Ateca and Arona to be SEAT’s flagship model, being the firm’s only seven-seater option. Starting at £28,320, the Tarraco has got some stiff competition to fend off, but being a SEAT, it should be a solid and reliable choice for any family. Four trim choices are offered: SE, SE Technology, XCELLENCE and XCELLENCE LUX. Standard equipment includes metallic paint, Full Link, DAB, 17” alloy wheels, alarm and three-zone climate control. Other trims include larger alloys, rear-view camera, electric tailgate and navigation. Engines include a 148bhp 1.5-litre TSI, a 187bhp 2.0-litre TSI and a 2.0-litre TDI with 148 and 187bhp.
Seven up and speedy The fastest SUV to ever tackle the Nürburgring is a… Skoda? That’s right and not just any Skoda, the first ever SUV to wear the hot performance vRS badge. Powered by the firm’s most powerful diesel engine ever fitted to one of their cars – a 237bhp 2.0-litre four-pot – the Kodiaq vRS can sprint from 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds and go onto 136mph. No too shabby when you’re seven up and full of luggage! The vRS will be permanent allwheel drive with a seven-speed DSG transferring the power to the wheels. On a combined run, the vRS can
achieve 44.1mpg with 167g/km of CO2 being produced. Inside, it’s all very vRS-like yet practical enough for every situation. On sale in January. Price approximately £43,000.
In the works Spider fan The 720S just got a whole lot cooler. Welcome everyone to the spider – McLaren’s convertible edition of the 720S. Powered by a 710hp 4.0-litre twinturbo engine, the 720S is one of the fastest road cars ever to have been produced. Top speed is 212mph and 2.9 seconds 0-62mph time. It can still achieve 202mph with the roof down. Weighing in at 1,332kg, it’s only 44kg heavier than the coupe, yet it’s still 88kg lighter than the nearest competition. This is all thanks to the carbon fibre body structure and new retractable hard top, which can lower or raise in 11 seconds – the fastest in the supercar class. Deliveries to customers will commence in March of 2019. Priced will start at £237,000.
From March 2019 the newly revised John Cooper Works edition of the Mini Cooper will be back. Coming in coupe and convertible styles, the JCW will come with a 2.0-litre 231hp powerplant with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. The former acquires figures of 40.9mpg combined and 157-158g/km of CO2 for the coupe; 39.8 to 40.4 mpg and 161-162g/km for the convertible. The latter 45.6-46.3mpg and 140-142g/km for the coupe; 43.5-44.1mpg and 145148g/km for the convertible. With the six-speed manual option, the coupe can accelerate to 62mph in 6.3 seconds and 6.6 seconds for the convertible. Standard specification includes sport suspension with 17-inch John Cooper Works alloy wheels, sports braking system and John Cooper Works Aerodynamic Kit. Available to order now. IN BRIEF
Chamber award Doncaster Chamber is celebrating winning the Most Effective Campaigning award, sponsored by Heathrow Airport, at the British Chambers of Commerce’s annual Chamber Business Awards. The national awards highlight the role of business in delivering growth and prosperity for the UK and local towns and regions. Doncaster Chamber has worked closely with a range of Doncaster Chamber team and partners collect the partners – including national award for campaigning for Doncaster’s Hungerhill School, Doncaster University Technical College MBC, Doncaster College, the National College for High Speed Rail, the University of Sheffield and a plethora of businesses – to campaign over the last three years to open a University Technical College (UTC) in Doncaster town centre to fill a skills gap currently being reported by local firms particularly in the rail and engineering sectors. The judges were impressed with how the campaign had helped make the Chamber relevant to the younger generation and described it as ‘strong, successful and effective’. They have worked hard to secure the support of Doncaster’s MPs and persuaded ministers that the College will be effective despite obstacles elsewhere.

Say ‘I do’ at Yorkshire Wildlife Park For couples who fancy a more exotic, safari-themed wedding day, it doesn’t take flying all the way to Africa – Yorkshire Wildlife Park offers the perfect atmosphere to say ‘I do’ in the midst of some of the world’s rarest and most beautiful animals. The award-winning park in Doncaster, near Branton, offers a unique package with the nearby Crown Hotel in Bawtry where wedding guests can enjoy a reception at the elegant hotel and round up their experience of an extraordinary wedding day. Special guests will include the park’s lions, amur leopards and tigers, polar bears, painted hunting dogs, lemurs and many more. Matt Zaremba, corporate sales executive at YWP, said: “We hosted a record-breaking seven weddings last year and we’re so delighted that we already have some planned at our memorable venue this year. The animals make a fantastic backdrop to a special day.” Hayden and Emily Armstrong were one of the seven couples who tied the knot at the park in 2018. Emily said: “Hayden and I always knew we wanted a wedding which stood out from the crowd. “My maid of honour sent through an article including zoo weddings and we instantly fell in love with the idea. YWP were able to turn our dreams into a reality and nothing was too much for them. “From decorating the beautiful wedding room, to ensuring the audio and visual for the ceremony was perfect, to organising a lemur and giraffe feed for after we tied the knot – everything was taken care of. “If you are thinking of booking YWP for your big day, just do it - you won’t be disappointed and you will be guaranteed the most wonderful day which you and all your guests will cherish forever!”
