High net worthDIVORCE
Celebrity divorces often hit the headlines with couples fighting over assets.
According to CNN, in December 2021 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum the wealthy ruler of Dubai was ordered to pay Princess Haya bint al-Hussein a staggering $728 million, ending a years-long divorce battle.
Whilst this might be an extreme example, cases which involve high value assets, can be lengthy and may require the support of a specialist team of solicitors and third party experts.
Ison Harrsion Solicitors provide clarity on the process and guidance on the considerations to be aware of.
What Do We Mean By High Net Worth Divorce?
These are cases where the financial assets of the marriage are of a high value and tend to exceed the financial needs of the parties involved.
Generally speaking, the divorce procedure remains the same as low value cases. However, when handling the division of assets and negotiating a fair settlement, there are complexities and unique issues that arise.
What Type of Assets May Need To Be Taken Into Account?
Commonly, this can include complex trust structures, inherited wealth, business assets, international assets and offshore accounts, high value pensions, property other than the marital home - such as rental properties and holiday homes, and large quantities of land such as family farms.
Other Issues That May Arise
Due to the level of wealth involved and the types of assets, there are certain issues that often arise. These may include: spousal maintenance payments, child maintenance payments above the statutory calculations, payment of private school fees, dividing multiple homes – some of which may be abroad, and uncovering hidden assets and the use of offshore accounts.
A Team Approach
The complexity of these cases means that involving third party experts is a must. Forensic accountants and Independent Financial Advisors can assist in valuing business assets, uncovering hidden assets and providing complex tax advice – which
does not fall within a family lawyer’s remit. Other important experts include property experts who specialise in valuing and selling high value property or niche high value items such as artwork and jewellery, and pension actuaries who are experienced in valuing pensions and calculating what a fair division of pension assets would look like. Specialist family law barristers are also crucial, particularly in cases that go before the court as part of Financial Remedy Proceedings.
As a firm, we maintain strong professional relationships with an array of professional experts to ensure that high net worth clients are provided with the specialist skillset required to navigate their divorce.
At Ison Harrison, our Director and team of Partners have over 60 years of combined experience and will work together to offer support and guidance during this difficult time. We are also Lexcel Accredited and have The Law Society’s Family Law and Advance Family Law accreditations.

We asked our resident interiors guru Amanda Cook
Design Tonic for her top take on the best garden trends for a stylish summer in the sun.
It’s fair to say that winter’s given our garden a bit of a battering! To turn it back into a stylish, functional outdoor sanctuary, we’ll be embracing this year’s best outdoor trends, using some of my favourite exterior elements from Design Tonic projects to help. Corten steel keeps its crown as a designer favourite, and no wonder. It’s durable, low maintenance and with a stunning, weathered patina that gets better withtime

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride unites classic and vintage motorcycle riders to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health - and is coming to a road near you.

f you’re out and about around Leeds or North Yorkshire on Sunday 19 May keep an eye out for a group of impeccably-dressed gents sat astride classic motorcycles enjoying the Yorkshire spring weather – in some style.
It may not be an everyday site but these gents (there may be a few women taking part too) are part of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR), a global event which unites classic and vintage motorcycle riders to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.
DGR was founded in Sydney, Australia by Mark Hawwa in 2012 and was inspired by a photo of TV show Mad Men’s Don Draper (Jon Hamm) sat on a classic
suit. The event quickly gained traction and this year over 25,000 riders have signed up to take part in over 1,000 cities and 120 countries around the world. To date, the event has raised over $45million with almost £1million being raised in England alone.
partner of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride since 2016. Both organisations share a simple goal: to bring people together and change the face of men’s health. Globally, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men and over ten million men are living with or beyond a prostate cancer diagnosis. Funds raised by DGR help to power Movember’s work across two of the most complex issues facing men around the world: prostate cancer and mental health.
can take part or donate, we spoke to DGR spokesperson Ramsey Sayed.
How has DGR grown over the years?
only 64 cities around the world. Mind you, this was before websites and advertisement on social media. It achieved this only using Facebook Groups to spread the word. Now, in 2024, we are proudly in over 120 counties and 1000 cities around the world. Our community has grown to include over 500,000 riders from around the world who
of men’s health, and the friendships and connections that we have made are some that will last a lifetime.
How has the UK embraced DGR?
The UK is one of our proudest and strongest communities. It consistently reaches in the top fundraising regions, with passionate riders and hosts in London, Bournemouth-Poole, Guildford, Cambridge and Bristol, to mention a few!
The style and theme of the event was always going to resonate well with riders in the UK; especially considering tweed is such a key feature in the DGR attire that originated in Scotland, and that for over ten years we have partnered with iconic British motorcycle manufacturer, Triumph Motorcycles.
We’ll be looking at rides closer to home – how popular have these rides been?
So many rides have popped up in the UK over the years, and more keep coming
Now, we see about 150 riders coming along to ride for men’s health. Leeds kicked off just two years later in 2015 with 40 riders, and has grown to host over 250 gentlefolk each year. Doncaster is the newest of the three, starting in 2018. It’s yet to rejoin the ranks for 2024, but we have no doubt it will return and continue bringing together dapper riders to celebrate the event.
How long are these rides?
Rides are generally quite short, not only to keep riders safe while they don their tweed in lieu of armoured Kevlar but also to maximise awareness by riding through the
from the public. As riders, we want to take the longer (and quieter) roads to really open-up the throttle and enjoy the ride, but that one day a year at DGR is where we get in front of as many people as possible to truly raise awareness for the cause. Because seeing hundreds of dapper riders lining the street is sure to spark some questions, and that helps us spread the message for men to look after their health.
Do you have to ride a classic or vintage motorcycle?
within the style guide for the event. Classic and vintage bikes are encouraged, just as much as custom bikes that still exude classic style. Custom styles like café racers, brats, bobbers, trackers and scramblers that are commonly based from both old and new styles of bikes, along with the inclusion of classic cruisers, modern classics, metalbodied scooters and sidecars are all very much welcomed to ride in DGR events.
What do gents generally wear?
Suits, suits, and suits. DGR is a themed event for riders to dress dapper, a hard contrast to what riders would typically wear. Folks are encouraged to add a bit of two- and three-piece suits, if the weather

permits. In those hotter regions riders may choose to wear linen or skip the suit jacket riding in a colder country, you might have the option to rug up with layers, or a tweed coat. Folks tend to have a bit of fun with out.
What about safety gear?
Safety gear is encouraged to anyone who wishes to wear it, we simply ask that if you plan on wearing armour under your attire,
You’ve partnered with the Movember charity since 2016 – why did you choose to work with this charity?
DGR became a charity event in its second prostate cancer, because at that time prostate cancer was (and still is) the leading cause of cancer-related death in men – and there was a notable gap in awareness for this. In the years leading up to partnering with Movember, DGR connected with a number of different prostate cancer organisations in separate countries. This
became a challenge working with so many independent partners, so when the opportunity arose to partner with the world’s largest men’s health organization –we jumped at it. Since then, our partnership has grown to include men’s mental health which has help us deliver more programs to men in need of help around the world.
Are all riders expected to raise money?
DGR is a fundraising event, that looks men’s mental health with Movember. Some rides may have a minimum donation attached to them, meaning that donations are mandatory to take part in that ride. A lot of hosts are proud of their achievements toward men’s health through their efforts in hosting events, and they are dedicated to raising as much as they can for our causes. There are some rides that may not require this, but we still encourage riders to donate, awareness to these important causes.
How do your funds support the charity?
The impact from DGR has helped fund

We have developed and implemented on-the-ground programs to help men form stronger social connections to improve their wellbeing, as well as funded global research into prostate cancer testing and treatment to support men living with and beyond their cancer diagnosis. Lastly, how can you sign up for one of the rides?

Dear Doctor
Meet Emily Coysh (Bsc Radiography, PG Dip Medical Ultrasound), boasting over 15 years medical experience, she is the Lead Sonographer at The Avenue Clinic, in Alwoodley, Leeds.
What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a safe, pain free, non-invasive medical imagining and diagnostic technique. High frequency sound waves are utilised to image and assess organs inside your body for a more advanced diagnosis to help identify and treat health conditions.
Why is Ultrasound important to Women’s Health?
Ultrasound is used to scan the pelvic area as part of women’s gynaecology assessments. It can be crucial in aiding the diagnosis and management of women’s health, capturing images of the cervix, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus (womb) both trans abdominally and trans-vaginally (internal).
What can a Pelvic Ultrasound detect?
Scans can identify root cause of pelvic pain, infertility, abnormal vaginal bleeding, menstrual issues, peri-menopausal symptoms and post-menopausal bleeding. A scan can also provide insight and information on palpable masses such as ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids.
Should I book a scan?
An Ultrasound scan is often recommended if your symptoms or concerns include any of the following:
- urinary problems;
- pelvic pain, at any point in the menstrual cycle or post menopausally;
- irregular vaginal bleeding and menstrual problems;
- abnormal growths/ masses;
- worrying symptoms of the menopause, peri-menopausal changes;
- assess the ovaries for normal anatomy signs of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), cysts, follicle tracking.
Health Check
Routine scans are recommended at least once a year whether you are suffering symptoms or want reassurance everything appears healthy.
If you have concerns about your health there should be no reason to worry, delay or put your examination off. With prices starting from £100, contact The Avenue Clinic and beat the NHS, with your appointment confirmed in under a week.

Kerry and Richard Haslam bought Home Farm in 2019 as a semi-retirement project with the aim of developing the partconverted B&B property. The couple both came from a manufacturing background, had no hospitality experience, but set about freshening up the interiors of the six rooms as well as the gardens.

Sustainability was high on the couple’s agenda when they bought Home Farm and they have made great efforts to reduce their
impact on the environment. After switching energy suppliers to a renewable company, they have also reduced the amount of plastic they encourage water recycling throughout the property, use LED lighting and use local suppliers where possible to reduce their carbon footprint.
“They may seem like little things but are hugely important to us,” added Kerry. “We have also made links with the community and as well as sponsoring local cricket and hockey teams, also work with the Barn Owl Trust.”
These efforts have not gone unnoticed and Home Farm & Lodge were awarded a Green Tourism Silver Award in 2022. Visit England also came knocking and awarded them their prestigious Rose Award for service excellence in 2023.
“Our business is built on personal service, being welcoming and allowing our guests their privacy,” said Richard. “Our ratings on review sites are consistently high, which means guests really enjoy staying with us and love what we have built.”

Ban Kaewkraikhot decided to become a chef from a young age. Encouraged by her mother – whom she considers to be her greatest teacher – she was raised in a small village near Sukhothai, Thailand, and used to help grow vegetables, herbs, and spices in the garden. Evenings were spent cooking and instilled in Ban a deep passion for sharing others.
“My mother’s ability to create dishes from humble ingredients found in our backyard is remarkable,” she said. “Every bite is like a taste of her love and dedication to our family. For me, symbolising such care and creativity in cooking is what makes being a chef truly special.”

Meet the CHEF
We spoke to Tim Stamp about life in the kitchen at Browns at the Buttercross.
Browns at the Buttercross was a new concept launched by Kate and James Brown in August 2020
experience with chef-prepared meals to be enjoyed at home prepared by the same Michelin-trained chefs.
It made for quite the change in direction for Kate and James whose background is in farming; they own Pollybell, a diverse organic farming business producing organic livestock, vegetables and grains. The farm covers 5,000 acres crossing the three county borders of Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire.
the menus at Browns and is utilised to great effect by the kitchen team of Tim Stamp (executive chef), Lewis Titley (sous chef), Josh Brockett (chef de partie) and Adele Stamp (pastry chef).
A la carte and taster options of breakfast and brunch are served from 9.30am before lunch takes over from 12-2pm with a sixcourse tasting menu (£45pp). An evening nine-course menu (£105pp) is available on Fridays and Saturdays and Sunday lunch is also served.
Tim has been instrumental in driving Browns onwards, having previously
worked at the Blacksmiths Clayworth, Ye Olde Bell Barnby Moor, The Peacock at Rowsley and Ardencote Manor Hotel.
Tim was inspired to cook by his grandparents.
“My grandad was a chef in the navy and my nan was a passionate baker so I was brought up around it and always had a passion for it,” he said. “Cooking was something that always gave me peace of mind and something I was natural with that I excelled in.”
A typical day for Tim is getting to Browns early to make sure that everything is in place for the shop and lunch bookings. He’ll then start any prep and look at things for future menus, making sure to involve the team in they want to do – it’s very much a collaborative effort.
When asked what gives him the greatest satisfaction, Tim said: “The joy on people’s faces when they taste something that they love. Food is very nostalgic and it taps into memories of food and takes people back to happy places.”
Tim doesn’t feel he has a signature dish, more a signature style that is taking foods that people identify with and reinventing them to give them a real treat.
“I always like to evolve in what I am doing, I hate repeating myself and always have to have something to push for,” he
always push to give customers the best.”
Asked if he had any advice for any upcoming chefs, he said: “Stay passionate, stay focused and never stand still, always try to be the best version of yourself.”

They have built long-term relationships over many years with British farmers, many local to their kitchens, and are committed only cook with higher-welfare, British chicken, 100 per cent sustainable seafood, and their work with farmers on animal charity Compassion in World Farming.
The savoury meals are made in their three kitchens in Kent, and pudding in their base in Somerset, where chefs can be found chopping, peeling, simmering and roasting just like a good home cook, so everything they make looks and tastes homemade. Everything is then sold through their network of 100 COOK shops nationwide, on the website http://www.cookfood.net/, and through branded concessions in over 1,000 like-minded retail partners. In 2013 they Corps, working to reinvent business as a force for good.
COOK have had a presence in Yorkshire for many years, and were proud to be recently voted the Best Company to Work For in Yorkshire. In the popular Harrogate and North Leeds shops, customers are
guaranteed a warm welcome by the team, including the offer of a hot taster while they browse. In 2023, COOK opened a new shop in popular retail park, The Springs, in West Yorkshire. All these shops also offer a local home delivery service, so if you have a large order or can’t get to the shop, they will deliver direct to you.
If you’re planning an event for your community, they’d love to lend a hand with
30 per cent off. To date they have supported hundreds of events all over the with their Community Kitchen discount – from community lunches and school fairs, to charity fundraisers and holiday camps for disadvantaged children.
The COOK frozen range comes in convenient portion sizes for one, two, four and eight and their range for larger gatherings makes it easy to get together with family and friends.
The new menu for summer 2024 is now in shops. Don’t miss the new Parmesan Chicken, the go-to dish of the summer, made with tender, higher-welfare British chicken breast beneath a golden Parmesan crust, with sweet roasted tomatoes and roast potatoes. The COOK Roasted Pepper and Goat’s Cheese Quiche was recently named the best Vegetarian main for Easter in Good Housekeeping, who described it as ‘looking home-made (but a little bit better)’. The summer puddings are not to be missed, in particular the Eton Mess Parfait, with its handmade meringue pieces, whipped cream and raspberries rippled with raspberry coulis, topped with white chocolate shards is sure to be a pleaser.

Escape to the COUNTRY
James Places’ collection of cosy country pubs in the Yorkshire Dales and Ribble Valley are the perfect destinations for a spring getaway.
Over more than two decades, James’ Places has assembled a collection of traditional country inns in some of the region’s prettiest locations.
From Falcon Manor at Settle, in the Dales, to a trio of distinctive village pubs in the scenic Ribble Valley, these venues are wonderful bases to explore these tranquil rural oases just an hour from Leeds.
Whether you’re looking to head out for a bracing walk in beautiful countryside or sneak off for a cheeky weekend escape, all of these stand-out venues dispense delicious food and drink, a warm welcome and a comfortable bed for the night.
Falcon Manor is an elegant country house hotel on the edge of Settle in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Nestling under the stunning limestone landscapes of the Dales, Falcon Manor is the perfect base for touring the National Park by car, or exploring the area on foot, by bike or e-bike. Explore caves and waterfalls on a network of scenic walks direct from Falcon Manor’s front door or visit spectacular
Malham Cove – just a short drive away.
Just across the border in the Ribble Valley are a trio of wonderfully welcoming country inns. The Assheton Arms, in the picture-postcard village of Downham, near Clitheroe, is as close as you can get to country pub perfection.
Nestling under the steep slopes of mighty Pendle Hill, The Assheton Arms has a delightfully quirky interior with a more formal dining area upstairs. Outside is a terrace offering stunning views over the village up to Pendle Hill - the perfect place for an evening drink as the sun sets.
Located beside an ancient stone bridge over a babbling brook at the heart of the pretty village of Waddington, the Waddington Arms is the hub of this vibrant little community. Proudly part of Yorkshire until 1974, Waddington was a regular winner of both Lancashire and Yorkshire’s Best Kept Village competitions.
Just six miles away is the Shireburn Arms, in Hurst Green – a popular destination for walkers. The Tolkien Trail –named after JRR Tolkien – meanders along the banks of the Rivers Ribble and Hodder
College, where the ‘Lord of the Rings’ author wrote several chapters of his epic novel.
Whether you fancy a romantic weekend away in a luxurious setting or an active break exploring uphill and down dale, there’s a James’ Places venue that will make it a trip to remember.

A grand OCCASION
Roundhay Park is one of Leeds’s most beautiful tourist attractions and the stunning Mansion House is undoubtedly the jewel in its crown.
An 1820’s Regency Grade II listed building which boasts a colonnaded grand entrance and unrivalled views overlooking the Upper Lake, it nestles perfectly amidst 700 acres of stunning parkland.
It was built in the Greek Revival style and served as a private residence for prominent families before being acquired by the city of Leeds in 1871. It was later converted into a hotel, which operated for decades, but closed in 2003 and faced an uncertain future. Plans were put together
staff, but an outcry from local residents forced a rethink.
In 2008, Leeds City Council awarded a new tenancy to Dine to retain The Mansion as an events venue.
Following extensive restoration and
refurbishment, The Mansion restaurant-café reopened in 2009 followed by the principle function spaces. The re-opened Mansion
September 2009.
Today it stands proudly as a cherished landmark within the sprawling greenery of Roundhay Park, whispering stories of its illustrious past.
It is certainly the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, a scenic from central Leeds.
Easy to locate on Mansion Lane, and with plenty of free parking too, Mansion House now also hosts weddings, private events and corporate functions.
Steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty, Dine pride themselves on being passionate about creating memorable moments through exceptional hospitality. This they most certainly do. Every Friday and Saturday its Tea Rooms are open for a
quintessential English experience.
The Afternoon Tea set menu promises a unique blend of charm, tradition, and delectable treats at one of Leeds’s bestloved venues.
My dining partner and I are greeted by Mansion House’s lovely staff upon arrival and then, on a cold but sun-kissed afternoon, we are ushered into the warmth and cosiness of the Tea Room.
It is a delightful space, dripping with luxurious elegance, and there is a nice ambience as background music softly plays.
Dine have meticulously restored The Mansion to its former glory and preserving its historical charm while injecting a modern touch.
There is also a Celebration of Life event being hosted on this particular day as we survey the Afternoon Tea offerings.

Warm savouries include Italian Chicken Sausage Roll, Gruyere and Pesto and Pine Nut Tartlet. Cold Savouries include Beef and Horseradish Finger Sandwich, Egg Mayonnaise and Spring Onion Torpedo, Mexican Bean and Crispy Nacho Cheese Salad.
Each taste amazing but key to the whole Afternoon Tea experience at Mansion House is, of course, the tea itself.
There is a wide range of teas available on the Mansion Afternoon Tea menu. Mansion House’s exquisite blends come courtesy of The London Tea Exchange, a renowned purveyor of premium teas from around the globe.
There are over a dozen specialist teas including Sencha Sakura, English Tropics, Milky Oolong, White Chai, Earl Grey, Royal Yellow, Moroccan Mint, Assam Mangalam Second Flush, Darjeeling Margaret’s Hope Second Flush and Sea of Blossom.
I opt for the English Breakfast tea, an English classic using a blend of three black assam varieties to create the perfect breakfast tea.
My dining partner chooses the Royal Yellow, said to be one of the world’s rarest teas, perfected by tea masters in Anhui Province. It has delicate hints of papaya with an underlying spiciness.
Mansion House’s commitment to ethical sourcing and meticulous blending guarantees a truly exceptional cup and the servings of tea, and excellent customer service, makes for a splendid experience.
The food is delicious and then it is time for Sweets, which include a selection of homemade desserts and pastries and Mini Scones with jam and cream.
Upon the recommendation of the excellent waiting-on staff, we opt for another pot of tea with our desserts, sharing hits the spot.
There is the option of a slightly more expensive afternoon tea entitled Royal also includes a Champagne Cocktail or Uji Matcha Mocktail. Alternatively, there is a
Bottomless Mini Scones with Jam and Cream and a choice of English Breakfast Tea, Earl Grey Tea or Cafetiere Coffee.
Premium Teas cost an additional £2,
but this is more than just a tea room as the amazing views of Roundhay Park prove.
Leeds is complete without a stroll around the many acres of greenery to wander through the park’s picturesque gardens, breathe in the fresh air, and soak in the serenity of nature.
A trip to the grandeur of The Mansion is all about indulging in the moment of respite and savouring the pure delights on offer. I shall certainly be returning.

Out or in - fit PORCELAIN
When renovating or upgrading your home, what kind of things come to mind?
While many people look for luxury and elegance with a sense of pristine cleanliness, others simply look to turn their house into a warm, family home.
An increasingly popular choice for renovation projects and upgrades alike is Porcelain tiles for walls and floors. And for good reason! The range of porcelain finish can truly take the vibe and feel of a space in a new, sumptuous direction. And you don’t have to break the bank to do so!
The possibilities and styles of porcelain tiles are endless. With modern, high-tech inkjet printing, porcelain tiles can be made to look like any natural material, like wood, stone or marble. Tiles like these can be sold at a much cheaper price than the real materials, and come with a fraction of the upkeep.
Porcelain tiles won’t draw moisture in the same way other paving materials do, which avoids surface staining and prevents algae and moss developing. These tiles are also hard wearing, fade and frost resistant, making them a great option for external areas as they will not lose their visual impact over time.
If you’re looking to create an authentic
modern look, the real beauty of porcelain tiles flowing from indoors to outdoors will seamlessly extend your living area with style. Matching the tiles you select in your living room or kitchen with those of an outdoor patio help create a continuous aesthetic across the interior and exterior, tying together the feel of your home and garden beautifully. Stoneware porcelain tiles are available in 20mm for outdoor, or 10mm for indoor and outdoor with concrete base, available in a range of sizes.
The Tile Company is a family business with more than 30 years of experience –with six showrooms across Yorkshire offering the finest natural stone, new generation porcelain stoneware tiles and luxury bathroom products. Their new outdoor display on Stirling Road, Clifton Moor, showcases a great range of the latest outdoor porcelain stoneware.

Harlow Carr Artist in Residence appointed
After an overwhelming response from a number of fantastic local artists, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Ian Burke as the RHS Harlow Carr Artist in Residence 2024-2025.
Ian Burke was born in Saltburn and grew up in Redcar before studying Fine Art at Newcastle University. Having completed a Master’s at Goldsmith’s College London he established a career in teaching art at schools including Queen Catherine’s School, Kendal, Barnard Castle School and Rugby School and most recently as Drawing Master at Eton College for 20 years until December 2021.
Throughout his teaching career, Ian continued to develop his own practical work, producing a series of one man shows and group shows, exhibiting regularly at the Royal Academy Summer Shows and winning several national prizes.
Ian now devotes himself to producing paintings and prints in his studio at home on the North Yorkshire Moors. Much of his work is inspired by the local environment, particularly the nearby village of Staithes on the Yorkshire coast where Ian lived for four years.
During lockdown, he took the opportunity while at home to do some large paintings of the surrounding gardens and landscapes.
Ian said: “The concept of working for an extended period
location really appealed so I’m thrilled to have been given this opportunity. The timing is perfect for me because this subject

Following in the footsteps of award winning artists Hilary Burnett Cooper, Nel Whatmore and Anita Bowerman, the Artist in Residence programme will last a full year, and will include an exhibition at the RHS Garden Harlow Carr 24th – 31st August 2024.

Miners’ Strike memories
At the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike, a new winning South Yorkshire will explore Doncaster’s place in the bitter year-long industrial dispute.
Restored and reimagined
From derelict shell on the Heritage At Risk Register to beautifully restored global tea house… A new life has dawned for Wentworth Woodhouse’s Grade II* listed Camellia House.
Set in a secluded spot in the gardens of their prestigious stately home in Rotherham, the building served as a peaceful retreat for its aristocratic owners from 1738. Now, thanks to a year-long, £5million restoration funded primarily with £4million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and just over £614,000 from Historic England, the Camellia House has been saved and its precious plants protected.
It has opened as a tea house serving teas from across the globe and international tapas.
Debut live tour
families and other witnesses about the strike and the impact it had on their lives and communities.
Those interviews will form the centre of a major new projection mapping project that will be unveiled at Doncaster’s Cusworth Hall in the autumn.
And the get the project started, Wayne is now looking for people to share their stories and experiences of the strike and its aftermath.
“I’m wanting to speak to the men who were miners, their wives, their children, people in the community and anybody in Doncaster and the surrounding villages who remembers what it was like to be part of this community in 1984,” said Wayne.
“I don’t just want to hear how the strike broke communities though - I want to explore how it galvanised those communities and brought them together.
“What I am really looking for is a real cross section of people so I can create something that is frank and open and has its
from Wales to the North East and Scotland that were caught up in this pivotal moment of our industrial and political history.
“I grew up in this mining community and although I was only very young in 1984 and have no real memories of the strike, I do remember my dad going to picket, even though I didn’t really understand what that meant.”
