Inheritance Tax could still threaten your family’s prosperity Dale Murten Wealth Management is inviting readers to discover the simple yet highly effective steps you can take to protect your wealth and stay in control.
M
ore and more people are affected by IHT every year. It used to be a tax that was the preserve of the very wealthy, but escalating property values in the last ten years have put paid to that. For single people, Inheritance Tax applies at the top rate of 40% to assets worth over £325,000. This threshold is known as the nil rate band. For married couples and civil partnerships the threshold is £650,000. But the higher £650,000 limit only applies when assets are passed between spouses and civil partners and this figure reduces if any money is passed onto any of your benefactors during your lifetime. There are also other financial implications to consider, particularly if you are a widow, widower or divorcee.
And with the threshold remaining unchanged by the coalition government and subject to further legislation the
freeze will be extended up to and including the 2017/2018 tax year, more people could get sucked in as the minimum IHT threshold usually increases at a rate equivalent to at least inflation. Dale Murten of Dale Murten Wealth Management, a local Associate Partner Practice of St. James’s Place Wealth Management, is concerned that most people do not understand the implications of IHT. “It’s clear that people are confused by IHT policy and many mistakenly believe they are unlikely to be affected by it,” he said. And he is also concerned about a potentially more serious knock-on effect. “AWill* is vital in helping mitigate IHT,” said Dale. “Without a proper Will, people run the risk of their estate being severely reduced through IHT and also leaving

themselves exposed to the ravages of long term care costs later in life. It’s now more important than ever to seek professional advice and establish how you can protect your hard earned assets.” If you are uncertain about how you stand regarding IHT and would like to know more about how to prevent much of your money falling into the hands of Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, or your Local Authority through Long Term Care fees, please contact Dale Murten Wealth Management. W
hether you’re dreaming of a gleaming granite worktop kitchen, transforming your living room with a satinsmooth marble finish fireplace, or just wanting to revive a tiredlooking tabletop, D K Marble and Granite are the manufacturing experts for the job. With marble, slate, stone and granite available in a wide variety of colours, sizes and edge profiles, the experienced team of stonemasons can accommodate any project. Marble and stone worktops have a timeless look. They’re supremely practical, and offer a waterproof, stain resistant surface. Being the hardest stone after the diamond, granite offers beauty and durability, and its dense grain makes it virtually impervious to stain. Its smooth structure means that it provides few havens for bacteria and is ideally suited for the kitchen and bathroom. Granite worktops are very popular at the moment, as they are simple to maintain and

Bring the outside, inside Spring clean your home by injecting bold colours, cool concepts and a touch of the great outdoors, writes Will Hardy.
A
new season is upon us and now is the time to fill your home with uplifting colours, light fabrics and floral prints to channel the soothing calm of the British countryside. Spring comes with a vibrant, floral colour scheme attached and the hottest trends at this time of year tend to follow this theme. As the outdoors gets lighter and brighter, so should your home. Patterns and geometric lines become looser and more blurred and colours change from deep winter hues to vivid cobalt blues, ochre yellows and open outdoorsy greens. If you are stuck for inspiration on how to bring the outdoors in for spring, these colour schemes and styling pattern trends should help you adapt each area of your home to the coming season.
Bathrooms Feature floor tiles proved popular in 2014 and show no signs of falling out of favour. The same goes for free-standing baths as they create striking, impressive bathroom sculptures. A new trend for the bathroom this spring is clever water controls. Gone are the days when you twisted a tap and water came out – people now want touch panels that allow them to control every aspect of their shower, from water direction and pressure to the exact mix of cold and hot water to create the perfect temperature for the optimal shower experience. Modernistic styling is also falling out of demand and being replaced by the concept of natural beauty – relating back to the idyllic outdoors portrayed by spring. Stone and wood materials and accessories are very hot as a result. Showers are also altering to fit the relaxed spring theme, so closed-off cramped cubicles have given way to large spacious walk-ins.
12
Kitchens Airy, open shelving and minimal wall cabinets create a warm, lived-in look whilst maintaining functionality and allowing other design features to have the attention they deserve. Wallpaper is making a comeback in certain styles – a stand out, repetitive pattern gives a room elegant without looking too brash. Wallpaper also has the benefit of being a cheap and easy way to give your kitchen an update with instant impact. This season’s overall theme for the kitchen is to marry modernistic and traditional styling, in order to preserve all the functionality of the modern kitchen while retaining the warm and cosy atmosphere of its traditional variant.
Living rooms and bedrooms Bringing the outdoors inside is the prominent motif this season. Plants are starting to escape the clutches of the garden and lively colours are finding their way into the home.
Bright pinks, blues, yellows and greens have seen a great increase in popularity as homeowners try to make their interiors resemble the natural beauty of an English garden as much as possible. This concept has blossomed onto curtains and drapes, which also feature lively floral patterns. Flowers, cushions and decorative accessories will give your living space an instant update without breaking the bank. Bright naturally coloured rugs on hard wooden floors are replacing dark lightabsorbing carpets, which add a nice mixture of warmth and safety to the open outdoors concept trying to be achieved this season.
Garden Gardening is becoming an increasingly popular pastime. As we propel ourselves further into the technological age, many people are relying on gardening as an escape back to a more peaceful, hands-on time. Today’s work climate also demands the majority of people live within an urban environment, meaning some people don’t have the pleasure of having a sizable garden. Window sill gardening, indoor allotments and house plants that can thrive in small spaces have become very fashionable. Meanwhile, the increase in vivid colour trends within the home has overflowed into the garden itself, where eye-catching flowers have burst into dominance. Fiery nasturtium, crocosmia and ‘for your eyes only’ roses are good examples of plants that were previously seen as too much of an overstatement but are now becoming the norm. As people try and move away from the neat confines of everyday life, the ‘bed head’ method of gardening has become a frontrunner. Leaving plants to grow as they please not only satisfies the concept of nature running its course, but also has become a mark of individuality as not every garden looks the same.

Snap up your dream home The Help to Buy scheme is making highly desirable homes like those at Woodland Grange readily available for all homebuyers.
H
elp to Buy is making dreams come true for homebuyers at Jones Homes’ highly desirable Woodland Grange development on Scrooby Road, in Harworth. Many of Jones Homes’ customers at Woodland Grange have chosen to use the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme, which is available to everyone looking to move house, not just first-time-buyers. Homebuyers in Harworth have been amazed by the quality and choice at Woodland Grange, an exclusive development offering a fantastic range of two, three and four-bedroom homes. Many first time buyers looking for a starter home have found the two and threebedroom properties at the development more affordable than renting, whereas families looking for a larger house have been able to buy a spacious four-bedroom property at Woodland Grange, often upgrading from a three-bedroom home, for a similar cost and without having to stretch themselves financially. Help to Buy is simple; homebuyers only need a five per cent deposit and must qualify for an interest-free government loan for up to 20 per cent of the market value of the property. Homebuyers can then secure a 75 per cent mortgage, enjoying better rates and more affordable monthly repayments. The scheme is hugely attractive as it makes moving house easier and, perhaps more importantly, much more affordable. Jayne Swift, Sales and Marketing Director at Jones Homes, comments: “Help to Buy is
www.regionalmagazine.co.uk
an innovative Government-backed scheme as it allows homebuyers the opportunity to purchase a quality, new-build property for much less than its market value price, as well as benefitting from better mortgage rates. “Whether you are taking your first step on the property ladder, upgrading to a bigger house or looking for a smaller home that is easier to manage, Help to Buy is available to everyone.” With a selection of stylish two, three and four-bedroom homes for sale at Woodland Grange, with prices starting from £119,995, or £95,996 with Help to Buy, Jones Homes anticipates that the scheme will continue to
assist buyers in the immediate future. Jayne concludes: “Help to Buy has already proved to be a most successful Governmentbacked scheme and we envisage that its popularity will continue. Help to Buy customers are always impressed when they learn what they can afford to buy, which is why we believe the scheme shows no signs of slowing down.” For further information, please contact the Jones Homes sales office at Woodland Grange on 01302 751123 (Monday to Friday, 10am until 5pm, and weekends, 11am until 5pm). Now’s the time to buy a home Mortgage rates hit all-time low as enquiries reach new high at The Gables in Doncaster.
W
ith interest rates and mortgage rates at a record low and the next phase of one and two-bed homes just released at The Gables, now is the perfect time to purchase a new home at this desirable location in the heart of Doncaster. The agents at the scheme, Blundells Land & New Homes, have seen an increasing number of buyers attracted back to the market since the start of 2015, and 23 homes have now been snapped up at the development. A new phase of seven homes
has now been released including three properties – a one-bed Ebor home and two two-bed Ashton homes, ready to move into from April, and a further three two-bedroom homes available to buy off-plan, which will be ready to move in to at the end of the summer. The stylish properties are appealing to both first-time buyers and downsizers who are attracted to a low-maintenance, newbuild home. Hollie Reynolds, residential sales & marketing manager at Muse, the developer behind the scheme, said: “Our aim with the mix of designs was to attract a wide range of customers at different life stages. To see that this is working gives us confidence that an appealing community-feel is developing here. We have a number of homes ready to move into, with more completing each month until the end of 2015. I’d encourage buyers to act
fast – the most popular designs and layouts are being snapped up.” The Gables in Doncaster offers an attractive mix of 54 ecologically designed homes, benefitting from a convenient town centre location, which appeals to the independent lifestyle of modern buyers. Onebedroom homes start from £99,950 and twobed homes from £129,950. Purchasers can also benefit from the Government-backed Help to Buy equity loan scheme, which could see them buy with as little as a five per cent deposit. Interested buyers can contact the sales team to book a tour of the show homes and find out more about the Government-backed Help to Buy equity loan scheme, which is available for both first-time buyers and those looking to move up the property ladder. For more information call 01302 378989 or email thegables@landandnewhomes.co.uk.

Welcome to Park Hill Hospital
P
ark Hill Hospital – the only private hospital in Doncaster – is celebrating 20 years of providing exemplary care to patients in South Yorkshire and beyond. Tucked away on the site of Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) – although operating as a completely separate entity – it carries out more than 2,000 procedures each year and welcomes both private and NHS patients for a wide variety of treatments. Technology has advanced dramatically over the years and Park Hill works closely with its nationally renowned consultants to ensure it always improves, maintaining its position at the forefront of pioneering new techniques and procedures. As such, it is on a par with hospitals and clinics in the UK’s largest cities. The friendly, welcoming atmosphere and attractive décor reduces the clinical feel of a typical hospital environment and patients are put at ease the moment they step through the doors. Yet, despite this proud heritage and high
standard of service, Park Hill is surprisingly unknown to the many people on its doorstep for whom it could be a fantastic resource. With short waiting times, fast and flexible appointments, and no need to travel, Park Hill is the perfect choice for Doncaster-based clients. Their services are available not only via private medical insurance and for privately funded self-referrals but also for NHS patients. In fact, 72 per cent of people who use the hospital are NHS patients. Private clients have the additional benefits of choosing their own consultant and having access to a personal point of contact who will guide them through their treatment journey every step of the way. Available by phone and email, they allay concerns and answer questions as they arise. Neither MRSA infection nor C-difficile has ever been found at Park Hill and every measure is taken to maintain this 100 per cent record. Full compliance with the recently amended guidelines on MRSA infection and stringent health and safety
procedures make sure these highly infectious bugs are kept out. A formal agreement with Doncaster Royal Infirmary ensures immediate access to critical care, should an emergency occur. Extra support services such as intensive care, CT and MRI scanning, coronary care and cardio-respiratory services are also available. This is a rarity for a private hospital and helps to put patients at ease even further. The DRI may be notorious for its difficulties with parking but Park Hill has no such problem. With its own free, private car park directly opposite the entrance, patients are guaranteed a stress-free experience. Next time you need hospital treatment, choose Park Hill. After all, why travel when you have some of the trust’s best consultants right on your doorstep?
To find out more, visit www.parkhillhospital.co.uk or call reception on 01302 553355.

The hospital’s first home on Bawtry Road
Sports star Emlyn Hughes officially opened Park Hill in 1995
History Park Hill Hospital’s journey began as The Doncaster Independent Hospital, when it had a consultant-owned site on Bawtry Road. After moving to its current home on the DRI site in April 1995, under Independent British Healthcare (Doncaster) Ltd, it was renamed Park Hill Hospital and officially opened by footballing legend Emlyn Hughes on 27 June 1995. The hospital changed hands to Community Hospitals Group (CHG) and then Capio Group before becoming part of Ramsay Health Care in 2007. This Australian family business, which has 31 hospitals in the UK, has continued to provide outstanding support ever since. Ramsay celebrated its 50th anniversary last year but also sadly lost its founder, Paul Ramsay. A pioneering influence on the brand, Paul’s ‘people caring for people’ vision remains strongly entrenched in everything the group does. The intrinsic values of ‘The Ramsay Way’ can be found in every aspect of care at Park Hill Hospital. This includes a caring and progressive approach, a positive spirit, taking great pride in their work, actively seeking new ways of doing things better, building constructive relationships for positive outcomes, and valuing integrity, credibility and respect for the individual.
“The intrinsic values of ‘The Ramsay Way’ can be found in every aspect of care at Park Hill Hospital.”
Dawn Abbott, general manager and matron “I originally applied for a bank job at the old site on Bawtry Road in 1994, but I was offered the ward sister’s post instead. I have been here ever since and have gradually worked my way up, making general manager in 2011. I now take care of the day-to-day management of the hospital, ensuring that staff are developed and motivated and that patients leave with a good outcome. “Many people feel nervous about coming to hospital, whether it’s the first or the 20th time. But we take the time to put you at ease and make the whole experience comfortable. This includes the lead up to your visit, any procedures or treatment, and a full aftercare service. “Every job is important at Park Hill and every employee plays a part in a patient’s journey. It is not unusual for the many thank you cards we receive to include a mention of non-clinical staff members. “I have an open-door policy so everyone knows they can come and speak to me whenever they need to. Happy staff create an even more caring atmosphere for our patients and everyone pulls together to provide the best care possible. “Park Hill has been like my baby and I feel proud to have helped develop and nurture it during the last 20 years. I absolutely love my job and Ramsay is a fabulous company to work for. They are here to invest – rather than grapple for capital – so they are always looking for ways to improve the hospital, building upon what is already here and introducing new techniques.”

Sports injury The sports injury specialists cover all aspects of sports injury including sports-specific treatment and rehabilitation for ligaments, strains and sprains, and prevention and management of reoccurring injuries. This is supported by three dedicated, onsite chartered physiotherapists, who are available seven days a week – including evenings – and take time to explore all treatment options. Each patient is seen on a one-to-one basis in a private room and has a direct relationship with his or her physio for a cohesive treatment journey. The physiotherapy department also treats patients for pre- and post-operative care including management and treatment for back, neck, knees, hips, shoulders, ankles and feet; women’s health such as pelvic floor disorders, incontinence and menopause; and acupuncture for pain relief and relaxation. Mr Paul Haslam, orthopaedic knee consultant specialising in sports injury “Knee injuries are common, but often serious injuries are missed or diagnosed late. Don’t take a chance on your knee – come and see the experts at Park Hill, who have years of experience. “Whether you’ve injured your knee skiing, playing football or doing any other sport, our friendly experienced team will have seen it before. We can also advise on injury prevention and programmes that minimise the rise of serious knee injury, particularly in young females. “As a member of BASK (British Association for Surgery of the Knee) I work together with other British knee surgeons to continually improve patient care. “I am also proud to be one of the top ten users of the UK National Ligament Registry (NLR) – an organisation that promotes best practice and improves the outcome of knee ligament reconstructive surgery.”
“Whether you’ve injured your knee skiing, playing football or doing any other sport, our friendly experienced team will have seen it before.”
Food Forget the typical image of sub-standard hospital food – Park Hill patients love their meals. Customer surveys often highlight the excellent standard of food that is homecooked on site and the chef even visits patients to allow them to choose their meals. “Our chefs care about the patients and the food they serve,” says Dawn. “From salads and sandwiches to hot dinners, there is a wide range of tasty options available. And if patients prefer to eat something that is not on the menu, the chef will go out of their way to accommodate their wishes.”
Weight loss This gold standard, patient-focused service provides each client with the care, knowledge and skills to achieve their longterm weight-loss goals. The supportive, dedicated team includes experienced consultants, nutritionists and specialist bariatric nurses who offer support every step of the way. With a doctor on site 24/7, round-theclock care is all part of the Park Hill experience. The team also cares for very obese patients, who need extra care and attention, and those converting from a gastric band to a bypass. Once the procedure is complete, the outstanding aftercare includes one-to-one consultations, weekly calls for the first eight weeks and a 24-hour support line, which offers ongoing care for up to two years. So even during the hardest moments, there is always somewhere to turn. Mr Balachandra, lead weight loss consultant and general surgeon “The weight loss surgery at Park Hill provides a comprehensive and personalised service delivered by a dedicated team of experienced professionals with a track record of obtaining excellent results. “The team are focused on guiding you through every step of the weight loss journey using the modern ‘multidisciplinary’ approach. “We provide a wide range of gastric procedures, which are tailored to your personal preference, individual goals and medical condition. “All procedures are performed using the latest minimally invasive techniques, including keyhole surgery.”

Cosmetic surgery Choosing the right consultant with the right ethics is one of the most important decisions when considering cosmetic surgery. At Park Hill, the dedicated consultants provide a personal, friendly and professional service using the latest techniques. The experienced surgeons offer breast augmentation, reduction and uplift, breast reconstruction, post-cancer care, tummy tucks, liposuction, eye lid surgery, face and neck lifts, nose surgery, and non-surgical treatments such as wrinkle injections and derma fillers. “We don’t fly doctors in just for surgery – ours are always here,” says Dawn. “You’ll see your consultant before, on the day of and after the procedure, and the aftercare is second to none.” With an exemplary standard of care, access to some of the industry’s finest consultants and such competitively priced rates, there really is no need to travel for cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic surgery open evening
The team The dedicated team of professionals are more like one big family than just a team of staff. The friendly welcome at reception extends throughout the hospital and everyone a patient comes into contact with – from consultants to housekeepers, nurses to chefs – takes a caring approach to their work. The great team ABOVE (L-R): Sales and marketing manager Jo Mapletoft, spirit is evident, and operations manager Joanne Bedford, general manager everyone works Dawn Abbott, ward manager Marcia Love together to provide a well-rounded service. With all staff trained in patient care, there are no gaps in knowledge throughout the team. Many of the staff have been at Park Hill for years. This includes general manager Dawn Abbott, staff nurses Anna Rennoldson and Pamela Guest, and healthcare assistant Audrey Walker, who have all been with the hospital since the beginning. The experienced nursing staff, who offer a variety of specialities, are headed up by ward manager Marcia Love, who also boasts many years of service. Last year, hospital employees and their friends ran the Race for Life and raised £793 for Cancer Research in memory of colleague Donna Hubbard, who sadly died last January. The staff are already gearing up to take part in the charity event again this year. As firm believers in supporting future staff and helping them flourish and grow, they welcome the opportunity to pass their skills on to the next generation of students and apprentices. As a small establishment, they’re able to provide individual attention so they can take the time to sit down with patients to truly listen and offer caring, thoughtful advice. The core values of patient care coming first, working with the best consultants and employing the best care team ensures each patient is made to feel special, not just like a bed number.
If you’ve been thinking about cosmetic surgery, come along to Park Hill’s free cosmetic surgery open evening on 15 April, 7-9pm. You’ll have the chance to meet the consultants, talk through your questions and concerns and obtain free, no obligation advice in a relaxed environment.

o you love the idea of having breast augmentation naturally, or turning back the clock with a 3D volumetric mini-facelift? If so, fat grafting with state-ofthe-art water-assisted liposuction (WAL) could be the perfect answer for you.
Water-assisted liposuction is the newest liposuction technique in which a jet of water is used to dislodge and remove fat simultaneously. This fat can then be injected (also known as grafting) into breasts to increase bust size or into the face to give it a more youthful look and soften deep nasolabial folds and wrinkles. As the fat is your own, it’s all natural! Harvesting fat using WAL is completely different and far gentler than other liposuction techniques. There is less bruising, less swelling, shorter recovery time and quicker return to work. Fat can be harvested from any problem areas including ‘lovehandles’, abdomen, buttocks and thighs. Elements Medispa is pleased to announce that Mr Vasu Karri, consultant plastic surgeon, will be offering WAL at Elements Medispa on Thorne Road in Doncaster. Mr Karri is a Royal College of Surgeons-recognised plastic surgeon and is on the GMC specialist register for plastic surgery. Fellowship trained in cosmetic surgery, he offers the full range of cosmetic surgery with state-of-the-art techniques. To learn more about WAL and other

2015 TRENDS
We’re going back to nature this summer as tousled waves, relaxed informal styles and smooth blow-dries come back into focus. Forget the super-styled, preened looks of recent seasons as curls, texture and longer locks have taken back the top spot. Casually effortless styles and natural pastel shades, along with eyelashskimming fringes, have been inspired by street-orientated catwalks. Check out Blake Lively (right), Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Kardashian for the hottest examples.

Is gastric band hypnotherapy all in the mind? Liz at Elizabeth Ann Therapies explains the latest weight loss sensation and answers the big question: does it actually work?

A
s a weight management consultant and clinical hypnotherapist, I can say gastric band hypnotherapy certainly does work, and I have many happy clients to prove the point. The Daily Mail recently mentioned that a leading GP and expert in this field, Michael Carmi, was backing gastric band hypnotherapy as a cheaper option that should be offered to patients contemplating gastric band surgery. He maintains that the ‘hypnotic gastric band is merely a metaphor for significant weight loss’. Meanwhile, a leading hypnotherapist quotes a trial in 1985 which showed that 109 patients who combined hypnosis with behavioural treatment lost significant amounts of weight over a twoyear period, compared to patients who only had behavioural treatment. In my opinion, it is better to have a few other approaches used alongside the hypnotherapy to give the client the best possible outcome for healthy weight loss, creating new eating patterns and a new relationship with food. I can never understand why patients would opt for a drastic surgical procedure rather than a hypnotherapy gastric band procedure, which carries none of the awful risks that go alongside drastic surgery.

Send your wellbeing questions to Liz @ ElizabethAnn61@live.co.uk One will be chosen and published monthly. Clinic @ The Vanilla Rooms, Bawtry. Dear Liz I have always been overweight, but after having my daughter three years ago, my weight spiralled out of control and I haven't got back on track since. Can hypnotherapy help me and if so, how? Susan, Tickhill Dear Susan The trouble with diets, is that as soon as you tell yourself not to eat certain foods, you upset the natural balance of your relationship with them. Rather than wanting it less, that 'forbidden food' instantly becomes more attractive. Creating an inner battle with yourself can be exhausting. Hypnosis has very good results with weight loss: it reprogrammes your subconscious mind to change the way you eat and the way you think about food. You will then start to be in control of your eating. All the above are availabe with me at The Vanilla Rooms Bawtry.

eciding who to trust with your cosmetic surgery is not easy. Placing your body in the hands of any professional can be a daunting prospect and it’s therefore so important to have faith in every part of the experience – from your first enquiry to your aftercare. For the last two years, Natural Look Clinic has been providing first class service and delivering exceptional results for clients in Doncaster and beyond, with the latest techniques in liposuction, breast augmentation, dentistry, facial injectables and much more. Specialising in enhancing your natural beauty and helping you to maintain optimum health, the clinic’s trusted and highly qualified medical professionals are among the region’s finest. “One of our most advanced treatments is Vaser, which offers the latest in liposuction and body shaping technology,” says Mr Kazzazi, consultant surgeon and head of surgery at the clinic. “Performed under local anaesthetic and sedation (also known as twilight anaesthesia), it targets arms, tummies, thighs and other problem areas, leaving you with better body contours and a slimmer silhouette.” VaserLipo uses ultrasonic energy to selectively break down and remove unwanted body fat without destroying other tissues so, as well as smooth results, you’ll heal much more quickly than traditional

liposuction. There are also many options for breast cosmetic surgery at the clinic, including implants (augmentation), consultations for uplift and reduction, reshaping using fat transfer, nipple correction, and surgery for both benign and malignant conditions. And it’s not only women looking for some of the region’s best breast services that contact the clinic, as male breast surgery – otherwise known as the treatment of ‘man boobs’ – is also available. Using liposuction and the surgical removal of extra fat and breast tissue, it gives men the confidence to wear the clothes they want to wear without worrying about excess lumps and bumps. A specialised hospital consultant vascular team also treats varicose veins with modern radio frequency technology. This painless treatment doesn’t require surgery or anaesthesia, results in little or no scarring and clients are not required to stay overnight so it’s perfect for those after a more convenient treatment option. Natural Look Clinic’s cosmetic dentistry is
also incredibly popular. From general checkups to scaling, polishing, tooth-whitening and veneers, there are a whole host of options. They even offer Invisalign, for teeth straightening with almost invisible braces. The CQC-approved clinic is supported by a team of NHS consultant anaesthetists and an excellent team of nursing and reception staff. Every positive comment from the clinic’s many happy clients includes a favourable mention of the staff and this excellent customer service is something on which they pride themselves. Payment plans and packages are available for many services, including cosmetic dentistry and all types of advanced facial injectables. So, if you’re looking to improve an imperfection or highlight your best assets in the most beautiful – and natural – way, the Natural Look Clinic is an ideal choice. Belle of the ball Planning for the prom starts now... Make sure you stand out from the crowd with these on-trend tips from Claudia Calzini.
P
rom season is finally upon us and it’s time for girls to start planning one of the biggest nights of their life. In true fairytale fashion, ethereal elegance and princess panache are at their peak. Our region, with its beautiful boutiques and the hottest hair and beauty hubs, is the dream destination for pre-prom preparation. Firstly, your lingerie is arguably as important as your dress. Choose shaping and seamless smalls in order to achieve a smooth and polished overall look. Bawtry boutique & She Knows… caters for all undergarment needs and offers bra fittings on request. The hottest styles this season are sleek, sexy and sophisticated with floor-length, backless, one-shoulder and off-the-shoulder designs proving popular. For shorter cuts and higher hemlines, sweetheart shapes, ballerina bouffant trims and soft ruffles give wowpower and will stand out from the crowd. Be tempted with lace, tulle, organza, mesh inserts, silks and latte-satins, as well as crystal and pearl embellishments, baroque beading and dainty hand-sewn detailing. Ready-towear wonders enchant with their shimmers and metallics. On the colour palette, think dusk roses, dusty pinks, pretty peaches, baby blushes and fuchsia touches, blending through to the more dramatic cobalt, lilac, lavender, mauve and deep purple.

Traditional black, classic creams and crisp whites remain annual favourites, whilst dove greys, taupe, oatmeal and stone are creating a niche of their own. Jumpsuits and mix-andmatch separates are also on the rise so trade in your dress for a stunning one-piece or some cute coordinates if you fancy being a bit different. While footwear can alter your look dramatically, if you’ll be on the dance floor most of the night, perhaps opt for something that’s both chic and comfortable. Happy shopping girls – I look forward to seeing all the belles of the ball.

ES Charity
Real fashion show aims to raise money for a worthwhile cause.
R
eal Ladieswear in Tickhill is proud to be organising a charity fashion show at the beautifully restored Victorian stately home, Rossington Hall, near Bawtry. The event will take place from 7pm on Wednesday 15 April and tickets are still available. Guests will enjoy a mouth watering three-course meal in the grand chandeliered ballroom, followed by a professionally choreographed fashion show, featuring models from The Team at Catwalkers and local Aurora models. The event has been inspired by many of the lovely Real Ladieswear customers who have been affected in one way or another by cancer. The store wanted to be able to give something back to the community and the fashion show seemed the ideal way to do so. If all 100 tickets are sold, the event will be able to raise a fantastic amount of money for the local Aurora Cancer Charity. Aurora Wellbeing is a local charity supporting men and women affected by cancer and their families. The charity offers anybody with a cancer diagnosis a free package of wellbeing treatments, to help raise
their confidence and self-esteem. Real Ladieswear has also arranged for ÂŁ1,000 of the total raised to go towards to the re-building of the cricket clubhouse in Tickhill. The club has so far built new changing rooms and a new tea/community room that will help the club forge even stronger links in the village and beyond. The fundraising is still going strong to build and kit out a new kitchen and to raise funds for a refurbishment of the function room. The fashion show will also include raffle ticket sales and prizes, as well as an auction to bid for other prizes. Any prize donations would be greatly received. Tickets cost ÂŁ45 and only the cost of the meal will be taken from the ticket sale. All other event costs will be covered by Real

Kim takes the reins at Farmers’ Market Bawtry Courtyard Farmer’s Market – which takes place on the first and third Saturday of every month – has appointed Kim Wattam, 25, from Bawtry, as market manager to collect subs and liaise with the stallholders. Kim and her mum Jill have been regular helpers at the Farmer’s Market and this is an unpaid job that she has kindly agreed to take on. Kim (pictured) is aiming to maximise the market’s potential and is arranging the special Easter themed market and its attractions on Saturday 4 April. The Easter market will feature a face painter, an Easter egg hunt, and roving entertainment from Jamie Rosser who will also be doing circus skills classes. Decent weather, music and some great new stalls have helped to draw lots of new customers to the market and create a lively atmosphere. Many thanks to Craig at Sound 2 Light for his continued support, as he has committed to providing the music at each market free of charge. If anyone is interested in taking a stall at the Bawtry Courtyard Farmer’s Market, please contact Kim Wattam on kimwattam07@hotmail.co.uk or 07468 532515.

Making everything
PERFECT
Two recent weddings showcased the best that The Crown Hotel has to offer. Stephanie Burns reports. Jane and Luke Richardson of Woodlands married on Saturday 28 February 2015 Jane says: “We booked our wedding at the Crown around six months before the day. Luckily we were able to get the date because it’s a quieter time of year than the really busy summer months. “We wanted to get married somewhere local to us and the Crown was the best venue by far. I’ve been to quite a few weddings at the Crown as some of my friends have been married there. We also go for meals quite often and it’s always lovely so we knew it was the right place for us. “Wedding co-ordinators Tori and Carly dealt with the organisation and made sure we had a brilliant day from start to finish. The standard of service we received when we first looked round was amazing and it continued throughout the entire process. They were so helpful and made everything sound so exciting, which made us even more excited about it! “They were incredibly accommodating
with all of our wishes and nothing was too much trouble. Even on the day, when I wanted to change the seating plan at the last minute, they did it without any hesitation. Me, my mum and my sister also stayed the night before the wedding and they helped us change rooms in the morning to the bridal suite, where Luke and I stayed after the wedding. “There were 29 guests in total – 26 adults and three children – and so we had one big table with everyone sitting together, which was lovely. Both the ceremony and the reception were held in the Hogarth Suite, which just looked fantastic.White Rose Occasions did a gorgeous white and sparkly backdrop and ceiling drapes, and there was
the added bonus of the courtyard garden. “For our wedding breakfast, we had two choices for each course. Starters of Thai fishcakes or carrot and coriander soup with croutons were followed by either roast sirloin of beef with Yorkshire puddings or stuffed chicken breast. Desserts were warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream or pavlova topped with fresh summer berries and strawberry sauce. Everything was absolutely amazing. “We’d initially thought of the Crown as a very luxurious venue choice with regard to our wedding budget but in the end it was great value for money as everything was just perfect.”

* Hallam FM’s Win Your Wedding * What would you do to win your dream wedding? Earlier this year, six couples had 16 days to raise as much money as possible for Hallam FM’s children’s charity
Cash for Kids. The stakes were high as the couples were battling it out to raise the most and win a fabulous wedding at the Crown worth £28,000. This fierce fundraising resulted in a staggering £51,734.22 being raised for the charity – and clinching first place with an impressive final amount of £14,731.59 between them were Angie and Brian from Wombwell, Angie and Brian who are now looking celebrate with Hallam FM and forward to their big day the Crown on 29 March.
Cash for Kids is hugely reliant on the support of local businesses to sponsor big fundraising campaigns like this, so having the Crown involved was integral to the fundraising campaign and the massive amount raised. “The Crown was delighted to see Angie and Brian come out on top,” said sales manager Katey Dent. “As an independent hotel, we always try to come up with unique ways to promote the hotel as a leading wedding venue in Yorkshire and the fact we did this whilst raising a staggering amount of money for Cash for Kids is incredible. We look forward to making Angie and Brian’s day that little bit more special!”
Laura and Anthony Philips of Haxey married on Friday 27 February 2015 Anthony says: “Laura and I have been together for 14 years so we thought it was about time we got married! “The Crown was the first place we looked round and, as soon as we walked in, it felt homely and comfortable. We saw another three or four venues after that, including some quite grand places, but nothing compared. It’s luxurious but not expensive – the perfect mix! “From the first time we met wedding coordinator Tori – and throughout the whole experience – the service was absolutely brilliant. She helped us out loads and took care of everything so we knew we didn’t have to worry about a thing. The Crown have obviously done lots of weddings over the years but they made us feel like ours was the only one; it was really special. “One of the highlights was the food; it was absolutely stunning and everyone said how nice it was and how good the waiter service was. We had starters of pork and liver terrine with redcurrant sauce and granary bread or baked goats cheese with plum
tomatoes, caramelised onions, focaccia bread and a balsamic glaze. This was followed by mains of pork loin rubbed in garlic and sage served with crushed sweet potato and a cream cider sauce, or pan-seared Yorkshire fillets of beef with dauphinoise potatoes and madeira sauce. Then we had vanilla cheesecake with dark chocolate biscuit base and berries or lemon tart with raspberries and citrus cream for pudding. “Everything was absolutely perfect. If I had to go back and do it all again and someone asked me if there is anything I’d change to make it better, I couldn’t. I would absolutely
recommend the Crown to anyone. In fact, a few people I know are looking to get married in the next couple of years and I’ve already been telling them how fantastic the whole experience was.”

Unforgettable experience There’s lots to discover at Rossington Hall. And there could be much more to come... Words: Fiona Barber Photography: Yorkshire Portraits
R
ossington Hall – Best Hotel in Eastside’s 2014 Restaurant Awards – is renowned for its fascinating history and Victorian splendour. But the fabulous Grade II listed building – in an exciting turn of events – could be about to become a European golf tour destination. The ambitious Rossington Hall Golf Project was launched by four Doncaster businessmen, including Gary Gee, who owns Rossington Hall with his wife Michelle. The development would include designing and building a quality 18-hole golf course, a ninehole club course, a club house, leisure facilities and 500 luxurious homes set alongside the course – all on the near-500 acre site. With Doncaster Sheffield Airport, the motorway and rail network on its doorstep the area is perfectly located and easily accessible for visitors. The scheme has backing from both the European Tour and Doncaster Council and it is hoped the grand development will bring immeasurable economic benefits for the area, as well as help to secure the long-term future of the Northern Racing College, which is already based at Rossington Hall. The town is establishing itself as one of the best places in the country to live, work,
www.regionalmagazine.co.uk
visit, invest in and do business from, and this venture would be another boost for the region, as well as creating the chance to welcome top golfing stars. An outline planning application for the project, which has been supported by Welcome to Yorkshire, will be submitted later this year. If all is well and the plans are approved, golfers could be teeing it up at Rossington Hall within the next couple of years. As this exciting plan unfolds, let’s not forget about what Rossington hall is bestknown and loved for – weddings. The venue is what wedding dreams are made of. Beautiful, privately-owned and set in 250 acres of magnificent gardens and grounds; every wedding can be as individual as the bride and groom themselves. The hall can be hired exclusively for a wedding party, so not only will your special day (or weekend, should you wish) not be interrupted by another bride, but also the only visitors at the hall will be your own guests. This leaves the attentive staff to focus entirely on you. Civil ceremonies for large groups can take place in the magnificence of the ballroom. Or for a more intimate affair, guests can take in the beautiful surroundings of the library or dining room. Rossington Hall has a room to suit almost any party size. They haven’t just put efforts into making sure the surroundings make your day special though – they know how important it is to make sure that you and your guests enjoy the best food possible. So, using only the finest ingredients, their team of chefs have created an amazing menu for you, with food to suit all tastes, and fit for those with the most discerning palate.
Of course Rossington Hall isn’t only available to those wishing to celebrate their wedding or civil ceremony. Imagine an intimate birthday or anniversary party in the dining room, with amazing food and full butler service, or your annual ball or corporate celebration in their splendid ballroom. It is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for afternoon tea. Saturdays is a la carte menu and tasting menu and then Sunday is lunch. In addition, they will open on any day of the week for private parties/dining. The possibilities are endless. With so many grand plans already in motion for the future of Rossington Hall – now is the ideal time to book this stunning venue exclusively for you. Don’t miss your opportunity to take your place in the hall’s history and experience something unforgettable. ES Education
Your ‘local’ independent school Westbourne School is the first choice for many parents throughout South Yorkshire and Derbyshire and welcomes students from all over the region.
W
estbourne School is the only independent co-ed school in Sheffield that caters for pupils aged three to 16. With small class sizes (on average 14 pupils), a friendly, family environment, and individualised learning, each child achieves his or her full potential. And, although academic achievement opens the door to further opportunity, Westbourne knows that this also needs to be supplemented with good life skills. As a result, their policy of educating girls and boys for life ensures that children leave school with confidence and the ability to make a valuable contribution to any community. As part of the ‘Westbourne journey’, pupils embark on fortnightly enrichment afternoons that allow provision beyond the academic curriculum. Their achievements are recognised in the five foundation areas of effort, citizenship, activities, events and community service. The co-ed environment in which Westbourne children learn cements this close-knit family atmosphere. By learning, playing and developing together, boys and girls are able to support one another and grow up functioning effectively together – as is the natural order of life. As well as giving each and every pupil the confidence to ‘give things a go’ with their enviable array of extracurricular activities, there is also a strong focus on instilling traditional values, such as respect and manners. These are just some of the many elements that contribute to Westbourne’s success. In addition to excellent exam results year on year – last year’s Year 11 scholarship cohort achieved 100 per cent A*-C and 95 per cent A*B – the success extends beyond
www.regionalmagazine.co.uk
school with highly successful alumni. This includes scholarships to top sixth form schools and many Oxbridge offers, proving how effective Westbourne’s approach to teaching is. It’s therefore little wonder that the most recent ISI inspection returned positive results
in all areas. Responses to questionnaires show that ‘parents are overwhelmingly satisfied with the education and support provided for their children’ – just one of the many quotes taken from this fantastic report. However, this success doesn’t mean they’re resting on their laurels – far from it. Westbourne went into 2015 with two major expansion projects to meet the overwhelming demand on its places. The new Pre-School has proved so popular that it has recently undergone an expansion and celebrated its second birthday with the opening of a new extension. The new year also saw the opening of a new building on Westbourne Road, creating a brand new purpose-built food technology facility along with seven new classrooms for use by both Senior and Junior School pupils. Westbourne also offers scholarships into Year 7 in four categories: academic, music, sport and all-round (academic plus music or sport). This September, three internal scholars will be joined in the ‘scholarship class’ by two external scholarship winners and other Westbourne pupils considered to be well above average in their academic ability. For more information about enrolling your child at Westbourne School, contact reception on 0114 266 0374. ES Festivals
Festival fever There’s a feast of live music in store this summer. Here’s Eastside’s pick of the events that will have the region rocking.
A
s summer rolls around once again, for music lovers it means one thing – the festival season. The big events at Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds may steal the limelight, but throughout the summer there is a variety of music festivals equally worthy of some attention. We’ve collated a few of the best that are close at hand. They all offer a unique experience, each adding their own alternative twist on the standard festival. Here is a brief summary of what to expect.
Words: Fiona Barber and Will Hardy
T Fest 26 September Tickhill After the phenomenal success of Tfest in 2013, Tickhill in Doncaster is gearing up to host its second music festival. With three stages hosting over 30 artists throughout the day, Saturday 26 September is a date to put in your diary. This year will see Tickhill Cricket Club become the center of the festival, with two stages, a food zone, bars, stalls and family entertainment. This will be supported by a thrid stage at The Scarborough Arms, who are already renowned for their real ales and live music. Watching live music can be the most

exhilarating experience and they are excited to be bringing some of the area’s biggest bands to Tickhill, including the Sherlocks, who are currently selling out venues across the UK after their recent chart success. Early bird tickets are on sale now at www.t-fest.co.uk

Fake Festivals – Sandall Park Fake Festival and Retford 9 May and 4 July After a successful sold-out tour last year, the UK’s only touring tribute festival, Fake Festivals, is returning with another rocking lineup. Once again Sandall Park and East Retford Rugby Club will play host to an amazing lineup of local support bands and headlining tribute bands. Tributes to The Killers, Oasis and the Arctic Monkeys will be smashing up the main stage, bringing the festival spirit with their uncanny likeness and voices. When you buy your Sandall Park Fake Festival ticket, it will give you free entry and camping to the three-day Big Fake Festival (4-6 September at Market Field, Thoresby Park, Nottingham) so you get four days of live music for the price of one. Y Not 31 July- 2 August Pikehall, Derbyshire The hills – or more appropriately the Peaks – will be alive with the sound of indie, rock and pop when Y Not sets up camp in Derbyshire. Winner of Best Small Festival at the 2012 UK Festival Awards,Y Not returns in 2015 to celebrate in style. Friends, fans and newcomers are invited to enjoy panoramic countryside views sound tracked by fresh and loud sounds from bands both up-and-coming and superstar in stance. Ocean Colour Scene and Johnny Marr are amongst the latest additions to the festival’s tenth anniversary lineup, which also includes headliners Snoop Dogg, Primal Scream and Basement Jaxx. Mancunian grunge band Nine Black Alps and screaming mathcore specialists Rolo Tomassi are set to keep things loud, while blues singer Kim Churchill and the soulful Jake Isaacs add a different hue to the airwaves. Tickets starting at £89.50 are on sale now from Ynotfestivals.co.uk.
Tramlines 24 – 26 July Sheffield With 14 venues scattered throughout the heart of Sheffield City Centre, this festival offers a unique experience like no other. As well as some mainstream acts, Tramlines focuses on a mixture of lesser-known, up-and-coming artists. Appearances include the godfathers of hip-hop, the Wu Tang Clan and pophouse phenomenon Basement Jaxx, who are set to blow away audiences. For the last seven years, Tramlines has been an undeniable success, while maintaining relatively low ticket prices. This year’s tickets cost just £30. Any ages can attend the festival but there are some over-18 only areas and under14s have to be accompanied by an adult. Due to a record attendance in 2014, the organisers of Tramlines have decided to move the main stage for the first time since the festival started, from Devonshire Green to Ponderosa Park. ES In Brief
Magna Carta Celebration
Stratstone Doncaster wins Jaguar Land Rover Retailer of the Year Stratstone Land Rover Doncaster was awarded the coveted Retailer of the Year title at the Jaguar Land Rover retailer conference held in Edinburgh. The event celebrated an amazing year for Jaguar Land Rover and recognised the outstanding achievements of some of its retailers. Kevin Fearn, Head of Business for Land Rover Doncaster said: “It is a real privilege and proud moment to receive this award on behalf of our team at Stratstone Doncaster, who have all worked extremely hard. 2015 is set to be equally as exciting and significant for Land Rover and the whole team here are proud to be an integral part of it.
An enthralling re-enactment of 1215 will take place at Sherwood Pines on 9 and 10 May to celebrate Nottinghamshire’s connections to King John and 800 years of the Magna Carta – one of the most famous documents in the world. The history re-enactors will live out life as it was 800 years ago, complete with battles, displays and military training to help visitors understand how people lived in Nottinghamshire around the time of King John. Issued in June 1215, the Magna Carta was the first document to put into writing that the king and his government were not above the law. Eight hundred years on and the Magna Carta’s ideas of justice and freedom have become part of our society, influencing generations across the world. Amy Chandler, community ranger, from the Forestry Commission, said: “To commemorate the 800th anniversary is important because it is the foundation stone supporting the freedoms enjoyed today by people in more than 100 countries.â€? Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate Independent Education Girls & Boys 3 to 19 years Day & Boarding Thorpe Underwood, Yorkshire. Phone: 01423 333 330 Email: info@QE.org Web: www.QE.org
Are we all about academics?
No, but were you aware the Daily Telegraph and The Times both rank QE College as the top most academically successful day and boarding school in the North for A*/ A grades at A Level and equivalent results and our Faculty of Queen Ethelburga’s, the third most academically successful co-educational day and boarding school in the North for A*/ A grades at A Level and equivalent results?
Are we all about Sport?
No independent school in the North has the equivalent of our £16m Sports Village. A parent said we are now in a league above the rest. See: www.sportsvillageqe.org
Are we all about superb facilities?
No, but we have invested over £80m in superb new teaching facilities and resources in the last 8 years - way more than any other independent school in the North.
Are we all about boarding?
No, but no one comes close to the quality of our boarding accommodation. The best in the UK. All bedrooms have private bathroom, air-con, TV, phone & mini-kitchen.
Are we all about day pupils?
No, but it is interesting to note our day fees are, on average, over 14% less cost than other local independent schools and our bus service covers a very big local area.
Is it all about Scholarships and Awards?
No, but then again who else offers over £3m in Scholarships and Awards every year? Even without any form of Scholarship or Award, sending your child to QE could save you between £3,000 and £7,000 in day fees a year, compared to elsewhere.
All of the above are perhaps the reasons why appreciably more parents have chosen QE this year than last year. “ We were looking for our children to change schools. However in the independent sector this has financial implications. Our problems in this regard were solved by the offer of Day or Boarding Awards (our choice) for both children of First Term Free. They moved, are now happy, and doing very well. QE is growing in size because it is run in a refreshing, modern and much better way. There are plenty of day children.”
Enjoy a 6th Form education at QE and pay no fees!.... Day Award up to £25,000, Boarding Award up to £65,000 If your child is predicted; 9 Grade A star GCSE’s they could be entitled to 100% of the fees 8 A star and 1 A Grade GCSE’s worth up to 85% of the fees 7 A star and 2 A Grade GCSE’s worth up to 70% of the fees 6 A star and 3 A Grade GCSE’s worth up to 50% of the fees
FIRST TERM FREE Day or Boarding Worth up to £9,795 Continues for 2014-15 (a) First Term Free for Years N1 to 8 inclusive, or (b) 50% off First Term’s Fees for Years 9, 10, 12. SPECIAL BOARDING AWARDS Worth up to £75,500 Awarded to outstanding, high achieveing students in categories Academic and/or Sport. Awards based on experience and ability, subject to interview and assessment. (Note a 30% award may be given under this scholarship type for our Elite Sport programmes). FAMILY SIBLING AWARDS Day & Boarding Our discounts are bigger than others, if indeed they even offer them. Brothers & sisters - boarders from 12% - 20%, day pupils 10%.
