Win your wedding at The Sitwell Arms Hotel THERE’S A VERY SPECIAL OFFER FOR COUPLES LOOKING TO TIE THE KNOT – FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN ENTER... ourting couples can win their wedding thanks to The Sitwell Arms Hotel, which has dubbed 2018 the year of true love. Grooms and brides-to-be are invited to attend the Derbyshire venue’s wedding open day in February and enter a free draw to win this coveted prize. One lucky pair will win their big day there and then, but will need to be present when the draw is made. This fantastic prize includes a sumptuous silver service wedding breakfast for 50 guests and an evening reception with hot fork buffet for 150. Visit www.sitwellarms.com/weddings for the complete rundown. The wedding open day takes place between 11am and 3pm on Sunday 11 February and is the perfect opportunity to view this intimate, family-run venue in the village of Renishaw. Parts of the building date back to the 18th century, when it began life as a coaching inn. Guests can view the elegantly dressed function rooms, bedrooms and landscaped gardens complete with lake. Meet The Sitwell’s expert team of wedding coordinators and trusted service providers, enjoy a traditional hog roast and take a tipple at the gin and Prosecco bar, all complimentary.

C

Couples and their families may wish to extend their visit beyond the wedding fair by booking a table for Sunday lunch in the recently refurbished Wild Boar Restaurant to sample the quality of the dining and service. Or perhaps guests will retire to the gin and cocktail lounge with parents or friends to discuss plans for their big day over a speciality drink. Valentine’s Day is the other date for your diary and a wonderful chance to wine and dine your loved one in style. Experience the warm atmosphere, very best service and exquisite dishes that the close-knit team at The Sitwell take immense pride in delivering. Whatever your preference, they look forward to welcoming you as their guests in the weeks and months to come. The Sitwell Arms Hotel, with its professional and personable team, is one of the area’s most popular independent wedding venues, celebrating some 200 nuptials last year. It offers a range of weddings from offthe-peg to bespoke and has the space and expertise to cater for up to 200 guests per party. Couples who opt for the much in demand Winter Wedding and Whirlwind wedding packages for 40 or 80 can add to their guest list at an individual cost of from £25 per head for day guests and £10 for those joining the evening celebrations. The Sitwell has 30 en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant, two bars and is set within ten acres of private grounds. Conveniently located less

than a mile from the M1 motorway and 20 minutes from both Sheffield and Chesterfield train stations, it is plain to see why The Sitwell is the first choice for so many couples. It enjoyed its best week on record in December, following significant investment in the property in August and September. Work included the refurbishment of the restaurant and cocktail bar, to the tune of £25,000, and introduction of a new à la carte menu using fresh, local ingredients and inspired by classic French cooking and Mediterranean cuisine. Jo-Anne Oldfield, managing director of The Sitwell Arms Hotel, said: “The end of 2017 was incredibly busy and the staff all worked so hard to pull off what was a fantastic season for us. It’s a privilege to manage such an outstanding team and together we look forward to an equally successful, if not more so, 2018.” Phase two of the refurbishment takes place this year and will see sizeable investment in the hotel accommodation as well as the launch of civil ceremonies in the secluded venue grounds. In addition, there will be a programme of continuous professional development for staff to ensure guests enjoy a first class experience with every visit. Call 01246 435226 or email info@sitwellarms.com to make a booking in the restaurant or for an appointment with one of their wedding planners. Image | www.imagemagazine.co.uk 3

FEATURE

Get on track MAKE GOOD ON YOUR INTENTIONS BY CHOOSING RESOLUTIONS THAT ARE REALISTIC AND ACHIEVABLE, WRITES PHOEBE SEYMOUR. very January, we set ourselves resolutions with the best of intentions. And yet by February, most of us start to slip back into our old ways. Last year, Bupa published a poll based on 2,000 British people which found that out of those who said they would be setting a new year’s resolution for 2017, half were not confident they would stick to it. With this kind of attitude, it’s no surprise we fail to keep them. So what is it about our resolutions that leaves us feeling as though they are unattainable? Bupa found that around one in five people also admitted to setting overly ambitious and potentially unsustainable goals, while psychology professor Peter Herman and his colleagues have identified what they call the ‘false hope syndrome’, meaning our resolutions tend to be significantly unrealistic and out of alignment with our internal view of ourselves and so our minds reject them. From losing weight to saving money, each resolution requires us to change our behaviour, which ultimately means changing our mind-sets.

E

Here are some tips to help you keep your mind on track and to help make your resolutions more achievable this year. 14 Image | www.imagemagazine.co.uk

BE REALISTIC If your resolution is too ambitious, it will be unrealistic to achieve. Your chances of success are much greater when you channel all your energy into changing just one aspect of your behaviour. So rather than vowing to lose weight and cut out drinking, concentrate on lowering your calorie intake and doing more exercise – and allow yourself the odd glass of red from time to time. Diets are about everything in moderation, and the same goes for your goals. BE SPECIFIC The more specific you can be, the more you can break your resolution down into smaller, more manageable goals. Another thing which tends to happen with non-specific goals is that they are easier to put off and you’ll be tempted to keep moving your goal posts. Instead of saying, ‘I want to lose weight this year’, say ‘I want to lose two stone this year’ so you will have a clear target and know when you have successfully met it.

FEATURE

RECORD IT

When it comes to our resolutions, many of us find it much easier to talk the talk, than we do committing to the walk. By recording your goal, you make a conscious commitment to working toward achieving it. Write down your resolution or even make a chart where you can track your progress regularly and place it somewhere it can easily be seen such as above your desk where you work, on your bathroom mirror or on your kitchen fridge. DON’T GIVE UP

Finally, if you do come up against some obstacles or fail to meet your short-term goals, don’t beat yourself up about it, and most importantly, don’t let it discourage you.

MEASURE IT

Another reason the resolution ‘I want to lose two stone’ works so well is that it can be tracked and regularly measured. Goals that have deadlines are also a great way to motivate you. ‘I want to lose two stone by my son’s wedding in July’ is therefore a more effective measurement of your success, while, ‘I want to lose four pounds each month’ is even better, as it can be measured regularly and in the short-term – just remember to keep it realistic. MAKE IT EXCITING

People are often put off their resolutions because they can feel like a chore. You may happily tuck into a bowl of vegetables and quinoa for a day or two, but after two weeks of eating the same meal, not so much. If you are aiming to eat healthily, create a varied and interesting menu. The same applies for long-term goals. Instead of saying, ‘I want to save money’, adding a reason such as, ‘so I can take my children to Disneyland’ gives you something positive and specific to look forward to.

10 OF THE MOST COMMONLY BROKEN NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS 1. LOSE WEIGHT OR GET FIT 2. QUIT SMOKING 3. LEARN A NEW SKILL 4. EAT HEALTHIER OR GO ON A DIET 5. GET OUT OF DEBT OR SAVE MONEY 6. SPEND MORE TIME WITH FAMILY 7. TRAVEL TO NEW PLACES 8. BE LESS STRESSED 9. VOLUNTEER 10. DRINK LESS ALCOHOL

MOST OF US WELCOME A PICK-ME-UP TO BRIGHTEN UP THE DULL DAYS AT THIS TIME OF YEAR – AND THE NEW ARRIVAL AT DRAKEHOUSE RETAIL PARK IS JUST THE THING… The Butcher’s Shop, latest addition to the local Underwood Meat Group’s chain, not only sells top quality meat but also offers it at a price that’s guaranteed to boost the spirits. The new shop, which opened next door to Greggs at the end of December, is committed to providing customers with great value every day across its range of excellent quality meats. Their popular family meat hamper is a prime example: packed with five sirloin steaks, five chicken fillets, five gammon steaks, 500g of beef mince and 500g of stewing beef, all for just £19.99. Chris Grice, The Butcher’s Shops’ area manager, says: “Our focus is always on everyday great value and quality that extends throughout our whole range. “We have a mix-and-match offer, giving customers three items from that range for £6 and a new Eat Lean, Live Healthy range full of versatile, affordable products that are trimmed of fat even more than normal.” Shoppers watching the scales – and the purse strings – will be spoiled for choice with the latter, which offers an

enticing selection of pork, beef and poultry at just £3 per pack, or any four for £10. The range’s rump steaks and pork loin medallions are perfectly paired with simple, fresh veg for a classic meal, while the diced beef, pork and turkey are ideal for making healthy stews and curries. The range also includes extra lean chicken and turkey breast steaks, beef stir fry strips and minced beef steak, enabling customers to cook varied, versatile low fat meals for the healthiest of appetites, without breaking the bank. Shoppers can add even more value to their shopping basket by picking up a free Privilege Card in store. The card, which should be registered online, accrues points each time you spend, giving shoppers a £5 voucher for every 20,000 points received. The Butcher’s Shops’ renowned quality and value watchwords have been company staples for decades: its parent company, Underwood Meats, has been successfully supplying the catering industry for well over 40 years.

It was increased interest from the general public that led to the opening of the first branch of The Butcher’s Shop in Rotherham in 2008. This factory outlet, based at the company’s main production facility, was such a success that they have since gone on to open branches in Barnsley, Dronfield, Eckington and Doncaster with more openings planned in the future. VALENTINE’S DAY

Wacky Valentine’s Day TIRED OF HEARTS AND FLOWERS? SHOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE ON A DATE WITH A DIFFERENCE, WRITES HANNAH SANDERS. he perfect Valentine’s Day date for many of us is gazing into each other’s eyes over a candlelit meal for two, but the reality can be quite different. With so many expectations, the pressure to book the perfect restaurant and buy the best gift can mean the magic and romance that is supposed to be at the centre of the evening can be hard to conjure up. This task is made even more difficult if you and your partner aren’t fans of the traditional Valentine’s Day candlelit dinner, or a trip to the cinema to see the latest romantic comedy. However don’t fret as there are plenty of other fun and memorable ways to celebrate your relationship this February. So, if your partner is an adventure seeker, animal lover, history buff or food fanatic, here are some alternative Valentine’s date ideas that they are sure to love.

Drive each other up the wall For the active types, or those who simply want to try something new, head to the nearest indoor climbing wall (www.climbingworks.com). Once you’ve mastered the technique, and if you enjoy a little friendly competition, race each other to the top. For those who are more experienced, take a trip out to the Peak District to do some outdoor bouldering. Finish the afternoon off with a picnic nestled in the hills (if it’s warm enough), or simply head to the nearest pub.

VALENTINE’S DAY

GET TRAPPED IN THE ROOM, AND TRY AND BREAK OUT OF IT Solving clues and finding your way out of a room is becoming a popular group activity. So grab the couples that like a challenge and take on some of Sheffield’s escape rooms (www.thegreatesapegame.co.uk). No matter if you win or lose, it’s sure to be fun for all involved and you can finish the night with pizza and beers.

Create something together

Get competitive If you and your partner are up for some friendly competition, then why not shoot some pool, play a round of crazy golf or even a game of ping-pong? If these aren’t up your alley, then try The Treehouse, board game café (www.treehousessheffield.com) where you can play some classics games like Cluedo or monopoly while enjoying a meal and of course a tipple or two.

Scour the internet, head to the craft store for supplies, and spend a day crafting projects for your home or each other. It’s a perfect way to let your creativity shine, and you’ll have some meaningful home décor to add to your walls.

Staycation Play tourist in your own town. Make a list of activities and plan to visit some of the local sites that perhaps you’ve been putting off or simply haven’t been to for a while. If you feel like splurging, make a reservation at a hotel you’ve always wanted to spend the night in.

GO SCAVENGER HUNTING If you are feeling ambitions, then have a go at planning a scavenger hunt. Leave notes or gifts hidden away at places that you went to on special dates, or that you both share a significant memory of. It will be a great trip down memory lane as well as a fun-filled activity that’s sure to give your partner a challenge.

Cocktail masterclass Who doesn’t love a good cocktail? This Valentine’s Day book yourselves onto a cocktail masterclass and learn how to create some of your favourite concoctions – or even invent your own.

HAVE THE PURR-FECT DATE If your partner has a soft spot for a furry feline friend, then what better way to show you care then by organising a trip to Tabby Teas cat café? This cat haven, near the city centre, is home to 12 rescue cats and provides the perfect relaxing environment to while away the afternoon. Head over to their website (www.tabbyteas.co.uk) to book online. Treat your other half to a day filled with purr-licious food and drink while enjoying the company of not one, or two but a room filled with your favourite four-legged pals.

Cookery class If you both love cooking and want to learn a new skill, why not book yourselves in for a cookery class this Valentine’s Day? It’s a great way to expand your palates and you can learn anything from bread making and authentic Indian or Thai cooking right through to chocolate making. Take away everything you’ve learnt and whip up your partner a meal to remember.

Visit a museum/gallery Take advantage of the Steel City’s history. Get lost in the hallways of one of Yorkshire’s many museums or galleries, and soak in some culture, all while learning about both traditional and modern unique paintings and sculptures. There’s plenty to choose from including Kelham Island Museum, Millennium Galleries, National Emergency Services Museum, Weston Park and if you fancya bit of a drive head to Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

THINK NEON, NOVELTY AND NATURAL FOR YOUR ILLUMINATIONS IN 2018. BY PHOEBE SEYMOUR.

n 2017, there was an explosion of playful, on-trend lighting and as we swing into a new year, this style is only getting stronger – not to mention quirkier. Last year was the year that brought you the industrial, exposed lightbulb and the copper cage lampshade. Along with old school, cinema-style light boxes and the rise of neon signs, they will continue to be the must-have items for your home over the next 12 months. You will also see fashionable motifs incorporated into lamps and neon signs such as flamingos and pineapples – the more colourful the better. But for those looking for something more neutral, you will find plenty of glowing metallic and wooden signs to give your suburban home a rough and ready city loft look for 2018.

HEALTHY EATING

Eating for health RACHEL MARTIN’S GUIDE TO THE SUPERFOODS YOU SHOULD BE INCLUDING IN YOUR DIET THIS YEAR. ccording to Mintel’s 2018 global food and drink report, plant-based diets are set to explode into the mainstream this year, and in a bid for optimal wellness, 'superfoods’ are now seen as a direct pathway to radiant health and boundless energy. While in 2017 we turned to the healing properties of turmeric, macadamia nuts and maca powder, this year edible clays, matcha

A

and hemp products are set to be huge, according to experts. And the new alternatives, though a little strange sounding on the face of it, claim to offer myriad health benefits and are of course environmentally sustainable. Here, Southside takes a look some of the health food trends predicted to be huge in 2018, and reveals what could well be set to become your new nutrition normal.

Hemp Seeds These small seeds are rich in essential fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids, including omega-3s, which can help fight coronary heart disease, cancer, and even symptoms of depression. Hemp seeds are also a rich source of the polyunsaturated fatty acid gamma linolenic acid, or GLA, which has been known to help with a number of maladies, ranging from allergies and attention deficit disorder, to lowering cholesterol levels.

Chicories Haven’t heard of this one? Chicories are those bitter winter greens like endive and escarole or purple radicchio. They are a good source of vitamin C and may also help boost heart health.

POMEGRANATE Pomegranates are known for their antioxidants and are an excellent source of fiber and vitamins C and K.

Matcha Chock full of polyphenols, matcha is lauded for its anti-aging properties. Importantly, it may help lower the risk of certain cancers and heart disease. And if you’re trying to stay focused on your goals this year, sip on this. Matcha is known to boost mental alertness too without the jitters you might get from other caffeinated drinks.

Activated Charcoal Activated charcoal can help you get purer skin and whiter teeth, as well as absorbing the standing tannins found in drinks like coffee and red wine.

SEAWEED Unlike their land-bound counterparts, sea-grown vegetables are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which may prevent sudden heart attack and stroke. Seaweed is also full of important minerals, such as bone-friendly calcium and magnesium, as well as iron, potassium, iodine and zinc.

Açai Native to the rainforests of South America, the açai is a small purple berry that has been touted as a weight-loss and anti-aging aid. The fruit contains very high levels of antioxidants in the form of anthocyanins, which help fight cancer and heart disease.

HEALTHY EATING

GOJI BERRIES Goji berries have become a common sight on supermarket shelves, and for good reason: they contain a lot of vitamin C. Native to Tibet and Inner Mongolia, these orange-red tangy berries have been used by Chinese herbalists for centuries to treat visual ailments and poor circulation and to help boost the immune system. Scientific research has yet to support such claims, but there’s no denying that goji berries are rich in plant-based antioxidants and compounds.

Chia Seeds Native to Mexico, these nutrient-rich seeds have become all the rage among superfood seekers. And it’s no surprise - chia seeds are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and calcium.

Nutritional Yeast Not to be confused with active dry or brewer’s yeast, nutritional yeast is made from deactivated yeast and has no leavening power. It’s a great source of protein and fiber and is also among the only vegan-friendly sources of vitamin B12, which is essential for normal brain and nervous-system function but found mostly in meat and dairy products.

Black Garlic Black garlic has long been prized for its health benefits, but it became widely available in Western markets only a few years ago. The black bulb is created by fermenting raw garlic through prolonged exposure to heat and humidity, giving it a sweet, mellow flavour and an inky hue. In addition to the sulfuric compounds that provide garlic with its heart-healthy and anticancer benefits, the fermented cloves are a source of important probiotics.

Kale

GREEN TEA This ages-old health secret has been used as a natural remedy for everything from cancer to heart disease. The secret to this delicious drink? Antioxidants. The main superhero here is Epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, a phytochemical that slows irregular cell growth, which could potentially help prevent the growth of some cancers.

Move over spinach, you've got some fierce competition. Kale contains a type of phytonutrient that appears to lessen the occurrence of a wide variety of cancers, including breast and ovarian. Though scientists are still studying why this happens, they believe the phytonutrients in kale trigger the liver to produce enzymes that neutralize potentially cancer-causing substances.

Salmon Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids, which the body cannot produce by itself. These fatty acids reduce inflammation, improve circulation and increase the ratio of good to bad cholesterol. Salmon is also a rich source of selenium, which helps prevent cell damage, and several B vitamins.

QUINOA This teeny-tiny, grain-like seed packs some serious nutritional prowess. With a mild, nutty flavour and a texture similar to rice or couscous, quinoa is one of the only grains or seeds that provides all nine essential amino acids our bodies can't produce themselves. And it's filled with protein - eight grams per one-cup serving, to be exact.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THE PROPERTY MARKET? HANNAH SANDERS ASKED TWO OF THE REGION’S PREMIER PROPERTY EXPERTS.

Paul Blackburn Managing director, Blenheim Park Estates

2017 was very much a year of two halves for UK property prices. The first six months were ‘business as usual’ as house prices steadily increased. This growth was very much as predicted with house prices rising on average between five and eight per cent. It was as the property industry geared up for the busiest time of the year that the housing market stalled. From May onwards, we began to see subsequent stunted growth with many regions reporting repeated monthly falls, the likes of which we have not seen since the housing bubble burst in 2008. The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors cited fewer people looking to buy as the predominant reason, coupled with political uncertainty and looming interest rate hikes. The North-South divide continued to persist with Scotland, North East England and Wales being the only areas where sales picked up, while in the rest of the country trends 46 Image | www.imagemagazine.co.uk

were either flat or negative. The immediate forecast is for sales to continue to flat line with an overall decrease in property prices for 2018 as a whole. Looking longer term, national house prices are predicted to rise by at least six per cent over the next five years by Barclays, who believe the UK property industry will return to more buoyant times once we have weathered the storm.

Over the next five years, it is believed that high employment rates, growth in private housing market levels and an increase in rates of average earnings will contribute to rising property prices across the UK. The South is expected to see the largest annual property price increase over this period, however, property investors are looking north for good value for money and income stability. Yorkshire and Derbyshire prices are likely to rise by an average of three to four per cent over the next five years with certain property hot spots having the potential to achieve a rise of 10-13 per cent. Over a third of high net worth investors looking to purchase property in northern regions think that property prices are going to rise, with over a quarter who plan to purchase citing ‘strong rental income’ as a reason to invest here. This positive outlook will be received as positive news for both homeowners and buyers and will produce a tonic to the current fears of political uncertainty and looming rises in interest rates.

WHAT YOU PAY AND WHAT YOU GET: UP TO £150,000 A well-presented two-bedroom apartment on West Street, Sheffield is ideal for those who love the hustle and bustle of city life. Alternatively, a three-bedroom, semidetached family house in Town Moor, Doncaster offers a front and rear garden and spacious dining room. Further north, in Leeds, £150,000 buys a two-bedroom flat, featuring open plan living and modern kitchen – ideal for first time buyers.

Mark Christopher Head of Residential Sales, Linley & Simpson

Probably the most frequent question I was asked in 2017 was: “What will be the impact of Brexit on the housing market this year and into 2018?” This underlines the level of uncertainty which has existed within the minds of landlords, buyers and sellers alike. Fewer properties have been coming to the sales and lettings market (averaging four per cent to six per cent less in 2017 compared to 2016) with the natural knock-on effect that there’s been less choice for buyers. On a positive note, buyers have benefitted from some attractive mortgage rates, with the trend in the latter part of 2017 being to opt for a fixed rate product. This offers buyers financial stability in terms of monthly payments (providing they have a ten per cent deposit). Researching the rental market across our network of 11 offices across North and West Yorkshire has revealed that tenants are now staying in a property for an average of 21 months – almost twice as long as when we first opened our doors 20 years ago. This is a trend we expect to gather further momentum throughout 2018, as living in a rented home for a longer period is now a real and sustainable alternative for a people seeking a more flexible lifestyle. 2017 has seen a steady growth in sale prices of circa five per cent across both North and West Yorkshire. We have seen first-hand signs of pent-up demand now being released. This is evidenced in the typically more sought-after locations of Harrogate, North Leeds and York. Here, achieved prices have been 95 per cent to 98 per cent of asking prices – and the speed of sale has been faster than the regional average. This year has witnessed a healthier appetite among developers in the new homes sector – and we see this as a big stand-out growth area for 2018. This will help the under-supply of housing, although this must be seen as a longterm strategy rather than a quick fix. What will we experience in 2018? A very similar picture to be truthful – with a backdrop of small, incremental interest rate rises; and the ripple effects of new Government initiatives – spearheaded by stamp duty reductions for firsttime buyers, and build-to-rent developments, especially in Leeds city centre.

UP TO £250,000 In Acomb, York is a beautiful threebedroom, semi-detached house. It has a through lounge, dining room, modern interior and benefits from a stunning garden. Benefiting from large bay windows, light floods into the property, which is located in one of the most desirable areas in Sheffield. UP TO £500,000 In the heart of Harrogate, investors will want to get their hands on this beautiful stone-built, semi-detached house. The property has four spacious bedrooms, open plan dining room, kitchen and snug with peninsular breakfast bar. Further south, in Sheffield, with four bedrooms is a town house within the Ranmoor conversation area. It boasts an open plan living/dining kitchen, integral garage and large master suite. In the idyllic market town of Bawtry is a four-bedroom detached house boasting

stunning views. This luxurious family home has two en-suites, reception area and spacious mature gardens. OVER £1MILLION If your budget stretches far enough, just under £2million will buy you a sleek, fivebedroom home in Wike, Leeds occupying an outstanding south-facing position overlooking Moor Allerton Golf Club. Bawtry is home to a Grade II, threestorey town house which has retained many original features. It has private walled gardens, six bedrooms, spacious living and an adjacent coach house. The RSPB big schools birdwatch lasts until 23 February The world’s biggest schools’ wildlife survey is back, with hundreds of children expected to take part in Sheffield. The Birdwatch is the perfect opportunity for school children to get outside, learn and make their first discoveries in nature. Blackbirds, house sparrows and robins are at the top of the checklist for hundreds of school children across South Yorkshire. The RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch is a chance for children to put down their books and get outside to experience and learn about the nature that lives in their local community. The Birdwatch involves children spending an hour watching and counting the birds that visit their outdoor space, before sending the results to the RSPB. Last year, more than 850 children and teachers in South Yorkshire took part. Woodpigeon was the most common playground visitor in the county and 96 per cent of schools spotted one during their watch. Blackbirds, magpies and robins all featured prominently in the results, and with over 70 different species recorded, there is sure to be a few surprises in schools around the region. Visit www.rspb.org.uk to take part in the Big Schools Birdwatch which is running until 23 February.

Abbeydale Cottage Nursey visits The Callywhite Care Home A group of children from Abbeydale Cottage Nursery in Sheffield took a trip to visit the elderly residents of The Callywhite Care Home in Dronfield. The visit was initiated by Fiona Gallagher, child practitioner at Abbeydale Cottage Nursery. Fiona was inspired by a Channel 4 programme that documented an intergenerational experiment demonstrating the benefits of pre-school children spending time with the elderly. Fiona Gallagher explained: “I’ve been working with children for over 20 years and have learned a lot about their emotional development but this documentary really interested me. “Many residents may not have young grandchildren so this visit was very special. Many of our children at the nursery have relatively young grandparents and do not have the opportunity to spend time with elderly people. The benefits of this initiative is certainly positive for everyone!” The Callywhite Care Home, part of The Green Care Group, was more than keen to take part. Julie Reaney, deputy manager at The Callywhite said: “When Fiona contacted us with the idea, there was no hesitation in getting involved. We have recognised for a long time how beneficial it is to our residents when children come to visit. Our residents absolutely love it.” A group of ten children, aged two and three visited the care home. A programme has already been put in place for the children to visit thecare home regularly.

“RMC Media has an excellent record of growth in the development of local magazines and a range of impressive books, but they also had a local knowledge and understanding of business and politics in the Sheffield area which was particularly valuable in building a structured text. As we began to discuss the possibility of working together on a book, their emphasis on quality and a professional approach to layout and design in a book coincided with my own, and the end-product is exactly what I had hoped for.” Image | www.imagemagazine.co.uk 49

MOTORING

TAKE FULL AD-VANTAGE Say hello, everyone, to the new 911 killer from Aston Martin – the Vantage. The Aston Martin Vantage is the baby in the range, the small agile coupe with the personality of an excitable dog. The Vantage has an all-new futuristic look separating it from the rest of the Aston Martin line-up, taking design cues from the Aston Martin Vulcan track car. As Aston Martin shares a partnership with Mercedes, it’ll be powered by the same 510hp 4.0-litre biturbo V8 found in the Mercedes AMG GTS. This produces a 0-62mph time of 3.5 seconds and a vmax of 195mph. Power is delivered through a eight-speed ZF automatic transmission via the rear wheels. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2018.

HOT STUFF

Say hello everyone to the all-new Jeep Compass – Jeep’s attempt to make the SUV segment its own. Starting at £22,995, the Compass is a great way to enter the SUV market. Upon its arrival in February 2018, there’ll be two petrol and three diesels to choose from. Petrol units are a 140hp 1.4-litre turbo and a 170hp 1.6-litre turbo. Diesels are a 120hp 1.6-litre unit and a 2.0-litre motor with either 140hp and 170hp. Transmissions available are a sixspeed manual or a nine-speed automatic with either two-wheel or four-wheel drivetrains. Four equipment levels: Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. Standard equipment includes 16-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, leather steering wheel, air-con and cruisecontrol. Higher specs include larger alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay and keyless go.

Want your hot hatch to be fast, mad and super exclusive? Then look no further, the Seat Leon Cupra R has all your needs covered. Out of the 799 models that are due to be built worldwide, just 24 will be landing in UK based dealerships, each with a price tag just shy of £35,000. Over the ‘ordinary’ Cupra, this R has various tweaks both technically and visually. Under the skin we have a new steering system, modified camber angles on the front axle, four piston Brembo brake callipers and a retuned exhaust system with an even racier note. The interior is upgraded over the Cupra, so too is the exterior. A six-speed manual transfers the power to the front wheels from its 306hp motor.

Let’s go crazy If you’re looking for mind-bogglingly rapid car that’s as mad as a butcher’s dog then look no further than the Lotus Exige Cup 430. The Exige Cup 430 is the “wildest incarnation” of the brand’s two-seater point-to-point racer. Compared to the previous model – the Cup 380 – the 430 has 55 extra horsepower totalling 430hp. It produces 220kg of maximum downforce and compared to the Exige Cup 380, the 430 produces the same amount of downforce at 100mph than this car did at its top speed. With a weight of 1,056 kg and 407hp per tonne, this monster takes 3.2 seconds to hit 60mph and can hit 180mph. This car is on par with the Porsche 911 GT3 and Mercedes AMG GT-R.
