With the summer holidays fast approaching, the more organised among you will already be gathering together the essentials to ensure your time away runs as smoothly – and is therefore as enjoyable – as possible. But if you have separated from your children’s mother or father and are planning to take the kids abroad for a welldeserved break, there are some legal obligations that you may need to consider. To be able to take your children out of the country, you must have consent from everyone who has parental responsibility, or a court order which allows you to do so. Court orders can take some time to obtain, so if you have already booked a holiday, don’t wait any longer to get the necessary documents in place. If the other parent does not agree with your plans, you may be able to apply to the courts for a Specific Issue Order which, if granted, would give you permission to take the children out of England and Wales. In most circumstances, the courts will generally feel that it is in the best interests of the children to be able to enjoy a holiday with one parent. This is assuming that there are no concerns for the children’s safety, and provided that there are no concerns that the children will not be returned at the end of your break. These issues can make matters more complex and take longer to deal with. In any event, we would strongly suggest that you do not book any holidays until the arrangements have been agreed or a court order is in place. If the order is not made in time, you may

miss your holiday. As well as offering advice regarding taking children on holiday, we can advise on all child-related legal issues. This includes Child Arrangements orders (formerly known as contact orders and residence orders) which state who the children should live with and how much time they should spend with each parent on a weekly basis, through to specific issues. Lime Tree House, which provides residential and nursing care for people with brain injuries, learning disabilities and mental illness, is now open in Chesterfield. Experienced nursing and social care professionals Glen and Sue Robson opened the facility in the former Whittington Village Care building on Handley Road. They offer long-term living accommodation for eight residents and short-term respite care for a further two people. Sue says: “We’re not only interested in the individual we’re delivering the care to, but also their wider family. We want Lime Tree House to be a home away from home for everyone concerned.” To aid the transition from home to residential care, one of the respite rooms at Lime Tree House has a lounge attached with overnight facilities for family members or carers. The room is also available for end-of-life care, offering a caring and sensitive environment, as well as support, for both patients and family members at this difficult time. John Norcliffe celebrated his 100th birthday with family, relatives and friends at the Brunswick Gardens Retirement Village, Woodhouse, where he has been a resident for over six years. Beighton Environment Group organised this event and provided seeds, labels and cotton buds, which were dampened and used to pick individual seeds for planting. Wake up to the biggest thrills you can have on the water at Sheffield Cable Waterski!

heffield Cable Waterski is the north’s biggest cable wake park, where you can enjoy exhilarating sports such as kneeboarding, waterskiing and wakeboarding. The cable park caters for everyone from beginner to advanced level and plays host to professional wakeboarders, a kid’s club and everyone in-between. The cable park is based at Rother Valley Country Park and with summer upon us, owner Andrew Granger and the team are preparing for a busy few months and some exciting events and competitions for all ages and abilities. This year the site has invested in three new obstacles, an Elephant Rail, a Butterbox and Handrail, elevating the park’s status to one of the best in the country. The crossover from snowboarding and skateboarding to wakeboarding is a clear one for riders. To coincide with the school holidays, the cable park now has even more to offer young riders. Sheffield Cable Waterski is open from April to October and the Junior Riders Club takes place every Saturday morning 9am-11am. The club caters for children aged eight to 12 years. The Junior Riders Club costs £20 for two hours, which covers all the instruction and equipment. It is the perfect way to keep your kids entertained and active over the summer holidays and this year, there will be additional sessions for young riders, which will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-12pm. The majority of junior riders go on to compete in national competitions as they grow in confidence and skill. Local rider Callum Boyd joined the Junior Riders Club when he was 12

years old and was placed third in last month’s Ten Feet High Series in the intermediate category, the wake park’s monthly wakeboarding competition. On the dock The cable park’s Ten Feet High Series is The club bar sponsored by O’Neill Wetsuits, Rockerline, Boardwraps, Stay Seasonal and Ten Feet High, the park’s pro shop. Professional and amateur riders are judged on their style, tricks and freestyle around the lake and on the wake park’s ten exciting obstacles, which include kickers and sliders. There are five categories in the competition with a bronze, silver and gold medallist in each. The categories include professional, intermediate and rookies, which are split into three age groups, including a category for eight to 12-year-olds. The next competitions will take place on Saturday 11 July and Saturday 15 August. The professional category attracts riders from across the country, with its £1,000 end-of-season cash prize in September. Tom Bowles, a cable operator and instructor at the wake park, was placed second in last month’s competition. Tom is sponsored by Liquid Force Wakeboards and Rockerline and is one of the wake park’s best riders. Other past winners include many UK and world champions. Sheffield Cable Waterski isn’t just for talented thrill seekers. It is also a great family day out and the wake park is very popular with spectators, who can watch all the action unfold whilst soaking up the sun. There is also a campsite and BBQ facilities available, as well as a café and licensed bar that overlooks the water. The park is also an ideal day out for groups of friends. The cable ski machine has eight carriers so there are always people riding (or falling off and swimming about) at the same time, making it a great social event. series of charity events at The Sitwell Arms is helping to save young lives and is the result of one mum channelling her grief into something positive. Jo-Anne Oldfield, managing director of the 18th century hotel, embarked on her charitable quest for the Neonatal Unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital after the loss of her baby. Mac, who was born prematurely, fought bravely for 17 days but passed away in October 2013. Jo-Anne and her husband Damion received loads of support from family, friends and NHS staff, particularly from Jo-Anne’s midwife Anahi Wheeldon-Lopez. Despite her personal grief, JoAnne felt the need to do more. Determined to keep Mac’s memory alive and finding comfort through action, Jo-Anne decided to use The Sitwell Arms as a venue for a number of charity events in aid of the Neonatal Unit. Last year, the hotel hosted an event attended by more than 250 people including, family, friends and customers. There was live music, casino tables, an auction and a charity raffle, which had over 40 fantastic prizes and services donated by local businesses in the community. The response was overwhelming and the hotel raised £3,600. Fun Runs have also been a success and a sponsored Sober October for Jo-Anne and 10 of her friends raised £4,000, which brought the total raised in 2014 to a whopping £10,000. This has helped to buy an invaluable piece of equipment for the Neonatal Unit called a Neopuff which helps babies to breathe. Jo-Anne hopes the money raised will make a difference and mean a happier outcome for other parents. Inspired by Jo-Anne’s efforts, Shelley and Steve Batty who got married at The Sitwell Arms on 3 April donated their wedding gift money to the Neonatal Unit. Shelley lost her premature daughter and for the first time found a way of helping and taking comfort. Because of the amazing response Jo-Anne now welcomes and helps outside organisers to arrange charity and fundraising events at The Sitwell Arms. She is happy to offer free venue room hire, donate raffle prizes and provide ideas to ensure

your event is also a success. This year, Jo-Anne has supported Bluebell Woods by hosting a ladies luncheon, Derbyshire Blood Bikes by hosting a cabaret night, and a black tie dinner for the Cervical Cancer Trust and Crohns and Colitis UK. The Sitwell Arms has many other special events and themed nights planned in the next few months and have just released their new forthcoming attractions, as well as a Christmas brochure. The hotel has gained its excellent reputation by providing quality standards at affordable prices.
