Celebrating
50 YEARS IN BUSINESS At the Heating Installer Awards 2018 – We won the 2018 Heating Installer of the year for Yorkshire & the North East
Our engineer, Craig, performing a Power Flush at a local property Our working showroom in Hoyland S74 9LH
We are proud to support local causes. This is the Ecclesfield Red Rose JFC team that we sponsor
It was a year that changed history, 1968 was a year of seismic social and political change across the globe. It was also the year that a plumber from Sheffield decided to make a go of it himself. And so Bumford Heating was born. Chris Bumford started the business, from humble beginnings in their spare bedroom in Wincobank. He installed his first boiler that same year, and never looked back. Now run by Chris’ son Neil, the company goes from strength to strength in its fiftieth year.
Amadou, our French apprentice working at a local property
“We are incredibly proud of this milestone” says Neil. “It can be difficult to know which company to trust in your home. I think the reason Bumfords is still here is that we value honesty and integrity, and we get the job done at a fair price. And now with over 50 years of recommendations under our belt, people see us as a trustworthy family firm.” Whether you are looking for a new boiler, heating system upgrade, new controls, plumbing or bathroom work, repairs or servicing - why not contact one of the friendly team at Bumfords.

IN BRIEF
North Sheffield department store shortlisted for national award Sandersons Department Store has been shortlisted for a major national award organised by the leading fashion and retail publication, Drapers. The shortlist of finalists was announced in June, with Sandersons named in the Best New Retailer category. The annual awards ceremony will be held in London on 12 September to recognise the best UK and Irish retailers, brands and agencies and to announce the winner. Sandersons has been chosen as one of nine shortlisted retailers in the Best New Retailer category, and will find out the results just after the store’s second birthday. Since opening in September 2016, Sandersons has continued to uphold the company’s ethos of always putting the customer first and practising incomparable customer service as the staff receive ongoing training in customer service and brand knowledge. The team at Sandersons is led by store
manager, Lisa Fox, who has run the store since opening. Lisa has continuously motivated her team to strive towards excellence in providing a unique shopping experience like no other department store. A new online store was launched last November, and new brands which have joined the line-up more recently, include Apricot and Tommy Hilfiger. The in-store floristry concession, Fleur de Lys, and beauty bar, Polished, have also seen some growth since joining the store in 2016, with both services expanding in recent months. Sandersons managing director and owner, Deborah Holmes, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for the Drapers Best New Retailer award within our first two years of trading. “The whole team has worked so hard over the past two years to ensure the customer experience in store and online is always exceptional and the brands and collections we carry are on trend.”
An evening of celebration for exceptional students Students from across Barnsley College and Barnsley Sixth Form College were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements at the annual Student Awards. The awards ceremony saw 11 awards presented, including the Achievement Award, Apprentice of the Year, Equality and Diversity Award, Outstanding Feedback from an Employer, Overcoming Adversity and many more. On the night the Principal’s Award was presented to two outstanding students selected from those who won an award during the evening; this year’s award winners were 17-yearold Kara Nichols and 18-year-old Stephen Hawcroft. Kara, who is a Level 1 Business and Enterprise student at Barnsley College, was also the winner of Student Voice Representative Award. Stephen, who is an A Level student at the Sixth Form College, also won the Tutorial Award. Guests enjoyed live music from the Barnsley Sixth Form College Musical Theatre Society and The Yella Lines, a band made up of five students
from the Music, Media and Performance department. Barnsley College Principal Chris Webb said: “The awards evening was a fantastic way to celebrate the amazing achievements of our students over the past year. “This has been a truly exceptional year for Barnsley College and Barnsley Sixth Form College and the awards evening is a culmination of everything that has been achieved. It provides a fitting tribute to those students who go above and beyond in their studies and in college life. “This event is always one of the highlights of my year and it is thanks to the kind support of our sponsors that it is made possible.” The event was made possible through the kind support of many local and national businesses including Andrew Barton London Education, ASOS, Awesome, Barnsley Chronicle, Billington Holdings, Ellisons, Forward and Thinking, Genius Division, Henry Boot, Sun Healthcare, The Civic, University Campus Barnsley and We Are Barnsley. Stephen Hawcroft and Kara Nichols
BUMFORDS’ TOP TIPS Each month Neil Bumford, MD of Bumford Heating, tells us one of his top tips to keeping our homes warm and energy efficient. Install a new shower head – Installing a more efficient shower head could save you as much as £75 a year on your bills. A shower timer could also save you a significant amount over time. The winners of Tramlines Festival’s ‘Apply to Play’ scheme have now been announced to play at the celebratory ten-year event from 20-22 July at Hillsborough Park. Handpicked from thousands of applicants by festival organisers and representatives from The Leadmill, the additions include Imi, Kadija Kamara, Little Grace, Polo, Saint Petersburg, The Golden Age of TV and Universal Tree. Supporting local and emerging talent has always been key to the Tramlines Festival ethos. This year’s line-up already features Sheffield’s finest, including Reverend and The Makers, Milburn, High Hazels, Bang Bang Romeo and comedic songwriter, John Shuttleworth. Universal Tree are fronted by Steve Edwards, the former frontman of Lords of the Flatbush – a collaboration with former Arctic Monkey, Andy Nicholson, and Louis Carnall of Milburn. Universal Tree draw influences from psychedelia, soul, funk and blaxploitation films and are playing the main stage on Sunday. Saint Petersburg (previously The Ratells) have some serious momentum and their first show sold out over 1,000 tickets in just four minutes. Check them out on Friday to see what the fuss is about.

Share the secret
IT’S TIME TO START SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT YOUR NEW FAVOURITE SHOE SHOP – THE SECRET SHOE BOX. ssst… Pssst! Over here… Do you want in on a secret? You do? Right, well there’s a Secret Shoe Box in Sheffield! So secret is this shoe shop that it’s been hiding in plain sight, right under our noses, atop the legendary West Street cobblers, Cobblers and Keys for months now. The shop is, in fact, an extension of the renowned cobblers and sells high-end quality men’s footwear (the women’s range is soon to be expanded). It’s a proper shoe emporium and a definite paradise for any self-respecting coveter of ones and twos. There’s a chilled atmosphere in the intimate shop, which is decked out with a forties aesthetic, complete with an old school shoe
P
shining chair and a range of over 60 different styles from retail favourites Loakes and Barkers. So, now you’re in the know, but why the sudden urge to let the cat out of the bag? Well, Glen Hardy, a man with over 20 years’ experience selling shoes, is the answer. Glen has taken up a shoe consultancy position in the shop and has decided to put his foot down and bare his sole. “It’s about getting the word out and sharing the secret,” says Glen: “It’s got people talking and that’s what we’re trying to achieve, but we’ve got to make it work by letting people know we’re here. “We want to be a destination where people want to come to. It’s all about awareness and getting the word out there for now.” Glen is a Sheffield resident who worked as the manager of Jones Bootmaker, on Pinstone Street, for over 20 years,
before moving to Meadowhall and selling shoes there. Glen told us: “I worked for Jones Bootmaker for over 20 years so I do know footwear, but I also know the corporate side. The advantage we have is that we can react to a customer within days, and say, right, you want that we can get it for you. If you’re corporate you can only sell what you’ve got. “I was a customer here, and that’s the only reason I’m here. I was selling plastic ladies shoes in Meadowhall and I resigned. Initially I came for the afternoon, Nick (the owner) said come in and look at the ranges. I want to believe in what I’m selling and this is a product I believe in. And Glen is confident that the range in The Secret Shoe Box can’t be beaten. To test Glen’s theory head along to The Secret Shoe Box, on West Street, any day of the week. Glen also encourages people to get in touch via Facebook with requests and he will try to accommodate them. To sweeten the deal they are currently offering a ten per cent discount on shoes, and as a special incentive, if you mention your favourite Sheffield news source (that’s us!) you’ll get a further five per cent, which for the maths whizzes among us means a full 15 per cent off. There’s never been a better time to get that brogue you’ve been after. Secret Shoe Box 145 West Street, Sheffield S1 4EW Tel: 0114 273 7931

Julie has been in the hairdressing industry for over 30 years and opened Scissor Sisters in Dronfield in 2004. But wanting to work closer to home, Julie decided to sell the salon and open a new venture in Chapeltown with her daughter, Ashton. Co-owner Ashton has been a hairdresser for three years and also lives locally, as do the other members of the team. Julie and Ashton believe that a friendly and professional team is key to building strong relationships with their clients. “We work well together and create a positive environment for our clients,” says Julie. “We’re one big family, and many clients become friends. The client really is king.” As well as offering everything from cut and blow drys to colour services, they also offer hair extensions and event hair for occasions such as weddings and race days. JEWELLERY
A DIAMOND MAY BE FOREVER, BUT IT WASN’T ALWAYS THE FIRST CHOICE FOR COUPLES CHOOSING AN ENGAGEMENT RING. ZOE LEWIS, JEWELLER AND GEMMOLOGIST AT PA JEWELLERY, LOOKS BACK.
Planning a proposal? f you get engaged, the chances are that you will choose a diamond ring to celebrate the occasion; it is regarded as the classic style and for most of us there is no alternative. This ‘tradition’ is only a recent invention however, and before the 20th century it would have been unusual to see an engagement ring featuring only diamonds. Rings have been given to mark a betrothal since at least the middle ages. From the 12th century it became common amongst the wealthy families of Europe to give an engagement ring to be worn during the period before the wedding could take place. The first record of a diamond engagement ring is in 1477 when Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave his betrothed, Mary of Burgundy, a gold band set with flat pieces of diamond that formed the shape of an ‘M’. Although this sparked a trend amongst the very wealthiest in Europe, diamonds were a rare and expensive gemstone, unavailable to most. By the 19th century engagement rings had become ornate pieces, often combining coloured gemstones, small diamonds, enamel work and precious metals. Different coloured gemstones were worn together, with their names spelling out terms of endearment, such as ‘dearest’. Diamonds and seed pearls were popular accent stones with settings crafted in classic yellow or rose gold.
I
The discovery of large diamond deposits in South Africa in the late 19th century meant prices fell as supply flooded the market. This would eventually lead to a huge transformation in the market; diamonds were no longer the preserve of the very wealthy. Early in the 20th century two world wars and an economic crash meant people did not have money to spend on luxuries. But following the end of the Second World War, De Beers stepped in with their huge, and hugely successful, advertising campaign that made a diamond ring seem indispensable when proposing. Their slogan, ‘A Diamond is Forever’, is still used to this day. It transformed the way the public thought about diamonds. In America, only ten per cent of women had a diamond engagement ring in the 1930s; by the 1970s this had increased to 80 per cent. Diamonds have always been valued for their incomparable hardness, brilliance and lustre. For centuries people believed them to be indestructible, and although we now know that it is possible to break or chip a diamond, its ability to resist the normal wear and scratching seen on other gems means it is rightly regarded as an incredibly durable material. Its adamantine lustre is brighter than any other gem, and its combination of bright brilliance and dazzling fire make it an exceptionally beautiful stone. @PulseRMC
Over the decades fashions have changed and trends have come and gone, influenced by celebrity engagements, changes in culture, and developments in cutting and setting. In the 1980s the marriage of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer made sapphire and diamond cluster designs fashionable. Changes in the way we shop mean there is now more choice available than ever before, and many couples like to have something a little different, with the addition of coloured gemstones, antique styling or an unusual setting. Throughout all this the round brilliant cut solitaire has maintained its popularity; its simplicity means it is perfect for everyday wear and never goes out of fashion, exemplifying the idea that a diamond is forever. If you are planning your own proposal then why not come and chat to one of our experienced gemmologists and jewellers? We are always happy to answer your questions and help you navigate the huge range of options available, assisting you to find the perfect ring to propose with. FOOD & DRINK
The taste of summer
OFTEN OVERLOOKED, PHOEBE SEYMOUR LOOKS AT WHY CIDER IS THE PERFECT PINT. n recent years, there’s been something of a real ale and gin revival, but another classic drink that often gets overlooked is cider. Perhaps we simply take it for granted that it will be on tap at every bar we stumble into, but with UK supermarkets such as Tesco increasing their selection of ciders by 60 per cent since 2001 to keep up with demand, we are certainly a nation with a huge thirst for the stuff. Nowadays, it’s common to see every fruit flavour of cider under the sun (quite literally) poured over ice to create the perfect summer pint. So let’s raise a glass as we celebrate the past, the present, and the glorious future of this unsung beverage.

SWEET BEGINNINGS In The Drunken Botanist (Algonquin Books, 2013), which explores the botanical history of some of the world’s greatest spirits, Amy Stewart cites the Greeks and the Romans as the first people to master the art of cider making. “When Romans invaded England around 55 BC, they found that cider was already being enjoyed by the locals there,” says Amy. “By that time, apple trees had long ago migrated from forests around Kazakhstan and were well established across Europe and Asia. “It was in southern England, France, and Spain that the technique of fermenting – and later distilling – the fruit was perfected. Evidence of this ancient art can be found in the European countryside today, where large circular apple grinding stones used to crush the fruit are still half buried in the fields.” She goes on to explain that there was often a “mishmash of novel and never-before-seen apples” in these orchards, which the farmers considered not sweet enough to eat. Even drinking the juice of apples was thought to be too sour for palates at that time. An archaeological dig in Gloucester in
2002 suggests that crab apples were once commonly pressed into an alcohol sweetened with honey. With the invasion of 1066, the natural sugar in Norman apples displaced the need for a sweetening agent and so began the love affair between the English and their apples and cider. Increased planting of apple trees began as soon as William of Normandy introduced his feudal system and has continued until now, nearly a thousand years on. The only way to reproduce a popular variety of apple was to graft it onto the rootstock of another tree, a technique that had been used on and off since 50 BC. Apple farmers started making clones of these varieties, and the popular ones eventually acquired names. “In the late 1500s, there were at least 65 named apples in Normandy,” confirms Amy. “For centuries, many of the best apples for cider-making have come from this region, all chosen for their productivity as well as their balance of acidity, tannin, aromatics, and sweetness.”
The present day phenomenon Recent years have seen a significant increase in cider sales in the UK. Today, the UK drinks the most cider in the world and is the major producer of cider in the EU. The beverage has enjoyed a renaissance in the 21st century with a greater diversity of producers, brands and consumers than ever before. The National Association of Cider Makers (NACM) estimates a minimum of 480 active cider makers in the UK. As of 2008, UK cider production comprises 61.9 per cent of cider produced in the EU. UK cider is mostly associated with the West Country, the West Midlands, and portions of the Home Counties and East Anglia, more specifically places like Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Kent, Suffolk, Norfolk and more recently Buckinghamshire and Cheshire; outside England it is also produced in Wales and Northern Ireland.
“Nowadays, it’s common to see every fruit flavour of cider under the sun (quite literally) poured over ice to create the perfect summer pint.” Fruits and flavours Whereas traditional West Country apple cider is still and darker in colour, some cider makers today bottle their product and add another round of sugar and yeast, allowing the carbon dioxide to build up inside the bottle and create Champagnelike bubbles. Cider is commonly available in sweet, medium and dry varieties, and range from @PulseRMC
the cheaper white variety that tend to come in two-litre bottles at your local offlicence, to the mixed fruit variety presented in classier tall glass bottles served over ice in bars and pubs all over the country. From strawberry and lime, to exotic flavours such as kiwi, passionfruit and more, there’s now a flavour, variety and brand sure to suit all kinds of cider drinkers. Pulse | www.pulsemag.co.uk 33

IS THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF A LONDON CITY BREAK SUITABLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN? RICHARD ABBEY FINDS PLENTY TO DO IN THE CAPITAL – AND THE PERFECT PLACE TO STAY. ou’d think after the pomp and ceremony of the recent royal wedding that Harry and Meghan would want to lay low for a while. You know, maybe kick back and relax in their cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace. So you could say it was a huge surprise when I ‘bumped’ into them on a recent trip to London. Of course, when I say bumped, I don’t mean brushing shoulders with them on Kensington High Street, more that they’re the centre of attention as you’d expect. Cameras are flashing left, right and centre as people clamour to get their picture taken with the happy couple. And they don’t complain once. Only they’re not on Kensington High Street, or Buckingham Palace for that matter, but the new main attraction at Madame Tussaud’s, the famous waxwork museum that has been open in London for over 200 years. My son –he’s five – on the other hand, was less than impressed, preferring the Marvel figures and 4D cinema experience. My wife was happy to have her picture taken with a Wookiee in the Star Wars section while I gave Bobby Moore a hand lifting the Jules Rimet trophy. The base for our stay was the charming Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, which was tucked away in the chic little enclave of Belgravia. It was a great spot – close to Knightsbridge tube station and the upmarket shopping of Harrods and Harvey Nichols as well as being a short walk to Hyde Park. The hotel is the smallest in the Jumeirah portfolio with just 88 rooms. What I really liked about it was that you get the quality service of a big hotel chain yet it retained a boutique feel. All the staff were really friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Given that there’s so much to see and do – a day wasn’t enough for us – it’s amazing that both of these attractions are free to visit. For our sightseeing day, we made good use of the Tube and buses – kids under 11 travel for free with a paying adult – which saw us take in the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street and Trafalgar Square. A torrential downpour and thunderstorm curtailed our plans somewhat so we ducked into the shops of Regent Street, Carnaby Street and Oxford Street before heading back to the hotel for some much needed rest and recuperation. The Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel was the perfect respite. Overall we had an amazing four days; the weather was glorious in the most part and even the trains ran on time. My children are already planning what we’ll do on our next visit.
Factbox: We stayed at the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel, SW1X 9ES. Prices start from £239 per night in low season and £335 per night in high season, room only. Full English breakfast is £30 per person. LOOKING BACK
Ecclesfield United football team, circa 1920s
League of gentlemen THIS MONTH’S RETROSPECTIVE LOOKS AT THE CHANGING FACE – AND ATTIRE – OF FOOTBALL IN THE REGION.
ome on, England! As you will no doubt have noticed, football mania is sweeping the nation with the return of the FIFA World Cup. So this month we look to the Steel City – home of the legendary Sheffield FC – for historical football team snaps. Here we look back at the local leagues based in North Sheffield. These two photos from the book, Ecclesfield, Chapeltown & High Green From Old Photos by Mel and Joan Jones, document the changing fashions of two local football teams. The first photo, of Ecclesfield United in the 1920s, depicts the team in drawstring shirts, standing shoulder to shoulder with a polo neck-clad goalkeeper on the back row. The accompanying text says: “The village supported several football teams. Ecclesfield Red Rose has a long history and, for several years, Ecclesfield United were prominent in the Association League. Some members of the team later played professionally. This photograph shows the Ecclesfield team in the 1920s. Those were the days when the goalkeeper invariably sported a flat cap. The team mascot is Harry Ridge, whose parents kept the Ball Inn where the photograph was taken.” Things had moved along by the 1950s, and the second photo depicts a Thorncliffe football team in 1954, wearing rugby-style collars. The traditional high neck tops for the goalies had remained the same though. It says: “Newton Chambers supported a wide variety of sporting and recreational

activities. Posing here is Thorncliffe Recreational Association Football Club at the end of the 1953/54 season. As the cup on display suggests, the team had a very successful season being crowned the Sheffield Works Sports Association Drake League Champions.” Unfortunately, both team’s successes were short-lived. Ecclesfield United FC was
established in 1926 and was defunct by 1929, while Thorncliffe Recreational Association Football Club had a better go of it, having been established in 1952 and enjoying over a decade of glory, before disbanding in 1963. If you can tell us the names of any of the men in these photos or have old football photos you’d like us to print, get in touch with us on the details below.

Connor Brunt
New face, new era CONNOR BRUNT HAS TAKEN OVER AS HOSPITALITY MANAGER AT TANKERSLEY PARK – AND HE’S GOT BIG PLANS TO BUILD ON THE CLUB’S SUCCESS. he best businesses are those that have a long and established reputation, yet are always moving with the times. And it is certainly a new era for Tankersley Park Golf Club. Not only have they recently unveiled a newly refurbished clubhouse, but they have also just welcomed brand new hospitality manager Connor Brunt. We talk to Connor about his career so far, all the fantastic new things he’s bringing to the clubhouse and how there is so much more to Tankersley Park Golf Club than just golf.
T
“I started work at Tankersley Golf Club in June. I’ve recently returned from Australia, where I worked as a bar manager at a cocktail bar in Burleigh Heads. Previous to that, I worked at Staindrop Lodge in Chapeltown for four years. “Myself and the chef, Mark, have just gone through the process of re-jigging our food menu in the clubhouse. Although we’ve not made drastic changes, we’ve listened to requests and added items to please everyone, whilst managing not to take away the favourites. “With all this amazing weather we’ve been having, we’ve added a few summer dishes and modernised some items with the ‘dirty’ option adding pulled pork or chilli con carne. To find out what else is on there, you’ll have to come down and join us to check it out. “Following popular demand, we are also about to reintroduction the popular Sunday Lunches every week from Sunday 22 July onwards - booking is advisable. “This fantastic summer weather has also made us want to extend our drinks options too. The new Bulmers cider range has gone down a treat for a refreshing option. Another success has been our new Franklin and Sons soft drink range – a delightful mix of fruity blends, which 46 Pulse | www.pulsemag.co.uk
have made the perfect after-golf refreshment. “Our members have also been enjoying the Farmers Blonde from our friends down at Bradfield Brewery – a nice easy-drinking real ale that offers a change-up from our regular favourites, John Smith’s and John Smith’s Magnet Ale. “As well as the ever-popular draft options, we have plenty of spirits and wines perfect for that after golf tipple. “I want to bring a family feel to our clubhouse. It’s very much a family club as it is, and it’s important for that to continue. It’s a
place where members and non-members can come to drink, eat and relax all year round whether that means coming for a pint of lager on a summers day to admire the view, or coming in for a cup of tea to warm up on a cold winter’s morning. “We now have a function room big enough to cater for business meetings, private meetings, small functions and many more occasions, which we want to utilise as much as possible. “Also – with our new HD TV, we want people to come watch major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup. We want people to know we can accommodate that and look forward to seeing a clubhouse full of happy faces. If I can make that happen, that’s a job well done.” Host a meeting or corporate day in Tankersley Park Golf Club’s newly refurbished function room from just £50, or a private function in their bar and lounge with venue hire and buffet included from just £400. Families can also take advantage of the club’s special family membership deal. Sign up before 31 July and get family membership for two adults and two children up to the age of 18 for just £900 (normal annual adult membership £1,160 per person).

MOTORING
FROM THE SENSIBLE TO THE SUBLIME, JORDAN CUTFORTH FOCUSES ON CARS FROM BOTH ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM.
Premium addition
Beating the competition The BMW M5 is the pinnacle of the high performance business express; it combines German engineering, plush luxury with blistering supercar performance. This latest M5 Competition variant is no different – based on the sixth generation of the M5 Saloon first revealed last year, it comes with increased power, optimised styling and aerodynamics, changes to the chassis and tuning, and interior design updates. Power comes from a 4.4-litre biturbo V8 churning out 625hp and 750Nm of torque. Thanks to the new M5 being four-wheel-drive, 0-62mph takes 3.3 seconds. Vmax limited to 155mph with a combined economy figure of 26.9mpg. Available to order now from £96,205 with first deliveries due in September.
The new Volvo V60 premium mid-size estate is now available to order in the UK, with onthe-road prices starting at £31,810 for the D3 Momentum manual version. A choice of three 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engines is initially offered. The D3, D4 and T5 V60s are all frontwheel drive. Both diesel engines are available with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox, while the petrol comes with the eight-speed automatic as standard. The D3 offers 150hp, 64.2mpg and CO2 emissions from just 117g/km. The D4 has 190hp, 64.0mpg and CO2 emissions also from just 117g/km. The 250hp T5’s numbers are 43.7mpg and 150g/km respectively. Standard equipment includes LED headlights, a powered tailgate, two-zone climate control, a 12.3inch driver’s information display and rear parking sensors.
RACING PEDIGREE
The next level The new Mercedes AMG GT S Roadster is now available to order from £126,730. The AMG GT S is already one of the best super sportscars on the market today; by having the roof removed along with acquiring a wider and more aggressive looking body, the roadster takes things up to the next level. The roadster is powered by a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 powerplant generating 522bhp and 670Nm of torque. It can sprint from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds, and has a top speed of 192 mph. It delivers up to 24.6 mpg and emits 262 g/km of CO2. The three-layer fabric roof is available in a choice of three colours at no extra cost: black, beige or red. 50 Pulse | www.pulsemag.co.uk

Say hello to the flagship model of the DB11 range, the DB11 AMR. Inspired by Aston Martin Racing’s successful endurance programme, the AMR pushes the already powerful DB11 into another category. The AMR acquires even sharper handling over the regular DB11 and there’s a new exhaust tune which amplifies the sound of the already glorious V12 soundtrack. There are other changes to the AMR over the standard DB11. On the outside we have forged alloys, carbon fibre and gloss black detailing. On the interior, we have extensive use of Alcantara and dark chrome, plus AMR embossing and embroidery. The AMR develops 630hp from a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 giving a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds and a vmax of 208mph. On sale now from £174,995.
